Hilton Head Island's destination for beef & seafood lovers, Crane's Tavern & Steakhouse serves only the finest USDA Prime Grade Beef & fresh local seafood. An old English bar & heart of pine floors create the setting with warm, inviting service & an award-winning wine list.
The restaurant represents 4 generations & over 100 years of restaurateurs in the Crane family dating back to 1908, when an Irish immigrant, Frank Crane founded Crane's Tavern in Philadelphia. After prohibition Frank's son, Francis & his brothers opened the famed establishment at 333 Queen Lane, where his son, Hank worked until 1969. That year Hank ventured out on his own & opened a Crane's Tavern in Ambler, PA. & then purchased the Surf City Hotel on Long Beach Island, NJ creating yet another establishment with the Crane namesake. In 1999 he & his daughter, Beth Anne opened Crane's Tavern & Steakhouse on Hilton Head Island, SC where it has become a local favorite

We waited for over 45 minutes to even get served a glass of water.
We had 7:30 reservations.
Hostess ignored our arrival to set up a table for a large party, did not even greet or explain delay
We were finally seated by a a nice man from the kitchen I believe,who had seen how long we were waiting. Then we began the 45 minute wait to place our order for drinks and then our meal.
Food was good but experience not worth the wait.
$200.00 meal with terrible service.

I always make it a point to come here on special occasions or recommend it to someone for that. Service never ceases to amaze me nor does the food. I can’t remember our servers name but she was lovely. And the food as always was amazing. I was in on Sunday 2/11 and it was a wonderful evening.

A classic steak house. Excellent food, friendly, attentive service, and a cosy ambiance. Portions are generous and food is prepared to the guest’s specifications. Good value for your dining dollar.

Food was good. Sesame tuna could have been better the filet was very good.

The Ribeye and the Prime Rib were spectacular. We live most of the year in Va. and usually come to Crane's when we are in Hilton Head. Never disappointed.

Was in Hilton Head for our anniversary and went to Crane's because they had prime beef and mostly good reviews. We were seated at a small table right at the entrance to the dining area and the door to the serving area, not good atmosphere for your anniversary. One very loud server visited a lot with apparently his regulars for long periods of time and our server started out fairly attentive, then she became involved in a very long conversation with another diner and just totally ignored us for the rest of the evening. Another server that seemed to be taking up the slack for the loud server finally spotted us and did bring us water and them took our dirty dishes while we waited for our server to check on us, when she finally came over, she said she had been watching us and knew we were still eating, which was totally untrue, her back was turned to us and she never looked our way!!!!
When you pay $35.00 for a 12 ounce prime rib eye, you expect it to be great and you expect the server to at least check on you and keep water in your glass.

We ate from the Restaurant Week menu and everything was excellent. Our waiter, Spencer, was friendly, personable, and knowledgeable about the menu and preparation of items. We enjoyed our evening and will definitely return.

Always a great restaurant. We go to the early bird usually so I can't speak for the rest of the menu. It's always consistently good and look forward to going there.

The food was better than okay, but overpriced for both the atmosphere and presentation. They may have had an early dining menu that we missed that was a better value. If you're using an expense account, it would probably be a good place for a business dinner.

My wife and I have had numerous meals at Crane's Tavern, and we had never been disappointed in our food or overall experience. Until last Saturday, that is. We were both very disappointed with our meals (me, tuna; my wife, salmon). I could only finish about half of the tuna; my wife did a little better with the salmon. We will likely return to Crane's, but we will not be ordering seafood again. Stick with the beef if you go to Crane's. Service was excellent, on the plus side.

Service was slow, was our second time there, similar issues. Food this time was not nearly as good as our first visit. All the family had steaks. Two filets were fine at medium, the two prime ribs were supposed to be medium but were closer to medium well. In all fairness they did ask but it was not worth the wait to redo.

The food was excellent. I had the liver and that will probably what I will order on most visits. The scalloped potatoes and creamed spinach were also excellent. The waiter was friendly and efficient.

Good meal. Filet was rare. Asked for very rare. Prime rib was ok per person ordering that. Potatoes were good as was spinach. Shrimp cheese dip very good. Ahi was small for price. Good but not great.

The restaurant and atmosphere is fantastic. The steaks were cooked to perfection. The potatoes (scalloped) were done to perfection. The desserts are great.

The hostess was a bit off due to NYE. We believe that she allowed locals who had reservations after us to be seated first. Then offered to sit us in the bar area??
However the people in the restaurant noticed the discrepancy and spoke up. I will contribute this oversight to the night.
The atmosphere is friendly. I would return.

I was there for NYE with an opentable reservation. They kept my family waiting for over an hour past the reservation while they quickly served people who they knew - “locals” - the good old boy network is alive and well at Cranes. Food was amazing, table and bar service were great. Front of house was run by the good old boy network. Tough to rate. 3 Star
