The "Chef's Whim" is available on Sunday evenings after 9:00 pm. Chef Tony Maws cooks for your table - either a $45 four-course or $57 six-course menu. Tony loves to cook and serve up impromptu dishes that may not be on the regular menu, and is at his most inventive, spontaneous, and generous. It’s never the same meal twice and your palates and pocketbooks are the winners! The “Chef’s Whim” is available in two versions only - “The Surprise” (which may contain meat and fish) and Vegetarian. We regret that there are no other selections or substitutions.

There is plenty of street parking and nearby parking lots. Valet Parking is always available at dinner. There is ample on-street parking nearby after 6 pm. There is a well-lit public parking lot one block away on Bishop Allen Drive (just behind the restaurant).

Excellent meal! We had the five-course tasting menu and everything was unique and delicious. The kitchen was very accommodating of my food allergy, and made substitutions as necessary. The only negative was that my date got served the regular menu which made me a little uncomfortable, but wasn't a big issue.

Craigie on Main is solid class. I am always impressed by the employees who are very welcoming from arrival to departure. That is very Simple, yes, easy, yes if you hire people who like people.
The food is of course is most important. The presentation, the layers of flavor, the freshness & quality of food are explosively good.

I think that Tony Maws & his staff really appreciate the customers & makes me satisfied on yet another level.

Everything was fantastic. Each course stood on its own and was special. Unusual foods and preparations with fabulous tastes. The wine pairing was perfect. We all had a great time. A culinary delight!

The complete dining experience from service to food and drinks was amazing. Wife was pregnant and they even adjusted the tasting menu to meet her needs. Price is not for an everyday dinner with my budget, but if you have an occasion to celebrate or someone to impress, this is your place.

We had a reservation for the dining area and immediately got bumped to a high top by the bar. The meal started off ok with oysters, appetizers and cocktail. But then there was a long delay before our main entrees arrives. My chicken was luke warm and as was the arctic chard. I had order a side of Brussels sprouts to have with my chicken and that arrived about 10min after our entrees. And oh it was absolutely room temp.

I could tell the kitchen was struggling because I had direct line of sight to the fiasco. Normally I might excuse this having worked in the restaurant industry for years before. But this was NOT a busy night. It was the day after Valentines Day. So why did the kitchen fall behind? Well as soon as the head chef left at around 8:45, the kitchen’s Wheelman started to get distracted by the hostess who basically ignored the front desk and stood by him for over an hour. He lost track of tickets and orders. And she just stood there in her red dress while the whole thing unraveled.

Now unfortunately timing and temperature weren’t the only issues. My chicken was bland and tough. It should fall off the bone if prepared well. Similar issues actually with my wife’s squab leg serve in her soup appetizer. And those cold Brussels sprouts which supposedly had a romesco sauce on them, well that tasted like buffalo sauce to be honest. Other than the pasta appetizer I had, the dinner was a huge swing and a big miss. I wish I was exaggerating here because this used to be one of my favorite spots.

Anyway we skipped dessert, paid the check and went to get our coats at the hostess station. We waited and waited. She was nowhere by now. So I grabbed our own coats from the hangers and left. A waitress ran over to try and help us but it was too late to cover. And for a grand finale to this circus, another waitress followed us out onto the sidewalk offering use some chocolate sauce shot. I literally laughed at her like this was a bad joke.

And to be honest it was. Wow.

We had not been at Craigie for awhile, and the food was outstanding. It was a fixed menu with some choices, all of which were very tasty, creative and well portioned. The meal was well paced and the service was attentive without being intrusive. We had a nice quite table with reasonable privacy, conducive to having a conversation.

Best restaurant in Boston...Thank you very much for a great night. Waiter was amazing and wine excellent. My wife has coeliac's and finds eating out hard ... You really understand the need to be gluten free and make it a pleasure....

Outstanding service, and equally incredible meal. Great, inventive cocktails. Do yourself a favor and order the burger, which in not on the menu and of which there are only a limited amount every night. But also don’t hesitate to order the Fried Smelts, which are lightly decadent. The Brussel Sprouts in duck fat are righteous, as are the surprisingly well executed grits. And the bone marrow is sublime.
