Excellent and imaginative food as usual.
The meal was awful and we were so disappointed. My mom ordered the trio of pork. It was slopped onto the plate and luke warm. The waiter was not super accommodative in terms of answering our questions regarding preparation.
My Bavette steak was cold when it arrived and chewy. The waiter was no where to be found to tell him.
When we ordered dessert (2 of them and I had called ahead to say it was my moms birthday and it was mine, too) they didn't take a coffee order and dropped off our desserts with one single candle for the table. Then we waited 25 minutes for the bill and the waiter came back to see if we wanted coffee or tea... this was after the meal was finished.
When we were leaving, the hostess asked how our meal was, I told her it was disappointing because everything out cold and she didn't seem to care (after she asked). Needless to say this will be our last visit.
Two of us were celebrating birthdays, and my daughter was leaving her 2 month old at home with a babysitter for the first time. So we wanted a good meal and evening. My younger daughter is not a food-centric person so she goy the chicken and held her peace.
The birthday daughter, her husband, and I dove in. I ordered a champagne, which we drank with first course (fried clams, octopus, and pate). All got very high marks.
We decided to share Arctic char and the pig’s head. We also ordered brussel sprouts and bone marrow as sides. It was a LOT of food, and all of it was delicious. Once we started eating the pig’s head, the char was an afterthought. If I were ordering again, I would order the char to come as a first course to share. And we loved the bone marrow, but I might want another vegetable to balance the richness.
I drink a lot of burgundy, and there were fun choices. We had Morey-Saint-Denis that was just right, both on its own and with the food.
They brought us candles with dessert.
It was an expensive meal, no doubt, but the food and service were exemplary. Definitely special event worthy!!!
Everything was wonderful, but I think it may be a victim of its own success in that the hype around the restaurant create very high expectations. It was honestly delicious, but I'm not sure it lived up to what I was expecting.
Excellent food. Only negative is different amuse bouche and deserts were served randomly. For the amuse bouche the birthday celebrant, a huge pork belly lover, was served trout and the pork belly served to a fish lover. The desert course was the same, huge chocolate lover served panna cotta while the two others served chocolate. No need for different servings or at least ask if someone has a favorite.
We come to Craigie every chance we get. We've been for date nights, brunch with a crowd, tasting menus, and family meals. We have never been disappointed. The atmosphere is upscale, yet comfortable casual. Service is excellent, and the food is stellar.
Brunch menu is a touch pretentious but you can get just a couple of eggs and toast if you want.
Wonderful meal at Craigies on Main. Try to sit at the bar overlooking the kitchen. Watch the chef(s) in action. Incredible attention to detail. Cocktails are also top notch. This is among our favorite restaurants.
Absolutely fantastic! Chef Maws and his team are extremely creative, the flavors and presentations were great. Can’t wait to go back
We found the food to be overpriced and overrated. The menu was limited--check it out before you go. Three of us ordered fish, which was essentially served raw. In all, a real disappointment. At least we had a good table and it was a fun place to hang out with friends.
Fantastic food and service. Loved the open kitchen concept.
Excellent meal! We had the five-course tasting menu and everything was unique and delicious. The kitchen was very accommodating of my food allergy, and made substitutions as necessary. The only negative was that my date got served the regular menu which made me a little uncomfortable, but wasn't a big issue.
Craigie on Main is solid class. I am always impressed by the employees who are very welcoming from arrival to departure. That is very Simple, yes, easy, yes if you hire people who like people.
The food is of course is most important. The presentation, the layers of flavor, the freshness & quality of food are explosively good.
I think that Tony Maws & his staff really appreciate the customers & makes me satisfied on yet another level.
Everything was fantastic. Each course stood on its own and was special. Unusual foods and preparations with fabulous tastes. The wine pairing was perfect. We all had a great time. A culinary delight!
The complete dining experience from service to food and drinks was amazing. Wife was pregnant and they even adjusted the tasting menu to meet her needs. Price is not for an everyday dinner with my budget, but if you have an occasion to celebrate or someone to impress, this is your place.
Fantastic meal. One of the best culinary experiences I’ve ever had.
We had a reservation for the dining area and immediately got bumped to a high top by the bar. The meal started off ok with oysters, appetizers and cocktail. But then there was a long delay before our main entrees arrives. My chicken was luke warm and as was the arctic chard. I had order a side of Brussels sprouts to have with my chicken and that arrived about 10min after our entrees. And oh it was absolutely room temp.
I could tell the kitchen was struggling because I had direct line of sight to the fiasco. Normally I might excuse this having worked in the restaurant industry for years before. But this was NOT a busy night. It was the day after Valentines Day. So why did the kitchen fall behind? Well as soon as the head chef left at around 8:45, the kitchen’s Wheelman started to get distracted by the hostess who basically ignored the front desk and stood by him for over an hour. He lost track of tickets and orders. And she just stood there in her red dress while the whole thing unraveled.
Now unfortunately timing and temperature weren’t the only issues. My chicken was bland and tough. It should fall off the bone if prepared well. Similar issues actually with my wife’s squab leg serve in her soup appetizer. And those cold Brussels sprouts which supposedly had a romesco sauce on them, well that tasted like buffalo sauce to be honest. Other than the pasta appetizer I had, the dinner was a huge swing and a big miss. I wish I was exaggerating here because this used to be one of my favorite spots.
Anyway we skipped dessert, paid the check and went to get our coats at the hostess station. We waited and waited. She was nowhere by now. So I grabbed our own coats from the hangers and left. A waitress ran over to try and help us but it was too late to cover. And for a grand finale to this circus, another waitress followed us out onto the sidewalk offering use some chocolate sauce shot. I literally laughed at her like this was a bad joke.
And to be honest it was. Wow.
We had not been at Craigie for awhile, and the food was outstanding. It was a fixed menu with some choices, all of which were very tasty, creative and well portioned. The meal was well paced and the service was attentive without being intrusive. We had a nice quite table with reasonable privacy, conducive to having a conversation.
Best restaurant in Boston...Thank you very much for a great night. Waiter was amazing and wine excellent. My wife has coeliac's and finds eating out hard ... You really understand the need to be gluten free and make it a pleasure....
Fantastic food, service, but VERY expensive. The atmosphere is also very nice.
Incredibly knowledgable, accomodating and courteous staff. Delicious unique food. Expensive, but worth every penny! Highly recommend.!
Great as always.
Great brunch, friendly attentive service.....Craigie lived up to my daughter's recommendation.
Had the tasting menu. Well balanced, great dishes. Great service. A little noisy for a date.
The food was outstanding, waitress very helpful and chef delightful
1.A potentially serious French foodie joint that can fail (badly) when the kitchen falls behind.
Outstanding service, and equally incredible meal. Great, inventive cocktails. Do yourself a favor and order the burger, which in not on the menu and of which there are only a limited amount every night. But also don’t hesitate to order the Fried Smelts, which are lightly decadent. The Brussel Sprouts in duck fat are righteous, as are the surprisingly well executed grits. And the bone marrow is sublime.
The service is impeccable and highly recommend the limited Edition burger that is worth a wait and dining at the bar! Great wine list as well!
Appetizers were excellent
Main courses limited if you could not eat shell fish or pork.
Desserts also limited - so better not selecting price-fixed menu.
As someone with food allergies, it’s not often that I feel confident in the job a restaurant does in addressing the issue. At Craigie & Main, however, I was completely satisfied with how they handle the situation. Not only that, but the meal was superb! Great drinks in a cozy bar where you can also grab dinner (great if you’re alone). Terrific service. I only regret we haven’t come here sooner!
It was our first time at Craigie, we had a wonderful dinner. The tasting menu was a really fun experience, everything was delicious. The atmosphere was also really fun. I was especially impressed with their wine and whiskey selection. We'll definitely be back.
At the risk of being accused of being a philistine, we were disappointed in our experience at Craigie. Upon seating us, the hostess, remarked that the music was too loud and that she would try to have it lowered. Music should be innocuous. Metal doesn't go with this experience of dining. Our waiter was pleasant. We ordered the Prix Fix 3 course meal for $65 each. The first course was 6 Copper Beach oysters and a salad. The oysters were beaten up, not mature enough to be served. The waiter offered additional condiments for the oysters when only one was left. The salad was fresh.
The next courses were the Arctic Char and chicken. Chicken came roasted. 3 little wheels of chicken that although tasty, were unremarkable and small portion.
The arctic char had to be sent back because it was cool, entirely raw, and the sauce it was sitting in was tepid. This is a fish to be served rare, however, this was raw and the sauce, should have been piping hot to offset the rare fish. No clams in sauce to speak of.
The rolls at the table were cold, as if they had just been removed from cold storage. The waiter forgot to bring a 2nd beer which necessitated asking another waiter; always a bit uncomfortable. A wait person seeing that my husband had an empty wine glass asked to pour wine for him even though he was drinking beer with the oysters. Staff were overly eager to continue pouring wine.Pushy to have that much hovering.
For dessert we had autumn carrot cake and chocolate cremeux. The cake came smushed with a dollop of ice cream. Cremeux is like a pudding. These were like gelatin squares. The chocolate was rich, no crunchy feuilletine. They were kind and comped us glasses of sparkling wine.
I imagine that Craigie on Main has a dedicated clientele especially for their legendary burgers. The overall experience pleasant, not outstanding enough to warrant the price tag. Details really make a tremendous difference. We might return to try their burgers.
The wait staff was extremely nice and helpful explaining all of our courses on the tasting menu. Everything tasted great and the experience helped make a great night.
We came to Craigie on Main for our anniversary, and had a great time. They sat us at a cozy booth in the back and started us off with free champagne. We did the five course tasting, and it was excellent- especially the arctic char and squab. Wasn't cheap, but it was worth it. Highly recommend for special occasions.
We came in for the full tasting menu for our anniversary. We were really pleased with the food, wine, and exceptional service. We like Craigie for a casual bar dinner (the burgers live up to the hype), but if you want to really ball out, it’s one of the few places in the Boston/Cambridge that really deliver on a tasting menu. The food is amazing, and the staff are great (super knowledgeable, attentive, down to earth, and not pretentious, which you would almost expect given the level of food served). This was the kind of dinner that stays with you, where you’re still thinking of the dishes the next day.
Heard good things about this place. I specifically went to this restaurant because their Burger was #21 on the best burgers in the country. It was one of the worst Burgers I've ever had, I ordered medium and it was raw, as well as the bacon not being cooked enough. I tried a couple of bites to see if it was just me but I gave my partner a bite and she said the same thing.
I'm not sure what happened considering all the good reviews this place has received, we went for a birthday brunch on a Sunday, 1/28/18,so maybe we got the "C" team or something instead of the "A" team that knows what they're doing.
The waitress asked how everything was, told her it wasn't good and her supervisor or manager came over, he did offer to make another Burger and cook it more, I declined.
The problem with him was he was somewhat condescending, trying to explain it away by saying that they use grass-fed beef and it's a redder meat, so it looks and Cooks differently, and that's their interpretation of medium. That's actually another reason I went there is because I eat grass-fed meat all the time and that's what I try to get as much as possible, and I told him that but he still kept going on about it.
My partner got the grits dish, which wasn't that great either. It was supposed to be grits with chicken and crab. There really wasn't any grits in it, it was more of a soupy thing with pieces of whole corn kernels, and my girlfriend couldn't taste any crab.
Brunch drinks were pretty good and our waitress was great we didn't have any problems with her.
Maybe their dinner options are better but for our first experience, it was not good.
Great, original, innovative food. Liked the options for prix fixe vs a la carte.
Don’t let the meat-heavy menu fool you, cuz we enjoyed the best vegan meal of our lives at Craigie on Main just last weekend! If you want vegan options, all you need to do is let them know in advance, when you make your reservation. The staff is wonderful. The courses are next-level, awe-inspiring, delectable edible art. Highly recommended!
Overall food was quite good but not worth the price
Despite booking in the bar — and despite a call from them in the afternoon where I confirmed the bar was my express preference— there was no bar seating available when we arrived. Nice service despite that miss st the start. Food uneven - excellent first course followed by average main and unremarkable dessert.
