We had very high hopes for this experience as we had researched the restaurant prior to even coming to town. It started out really well and really strong. Great atmosphere, seated right away and greeted. Ordering and through the first course was great and then it was like we became invisible. We looked at the plates from our second course for 25 minutes, we struggled to order wine, the entrees were left in front of us for another almost 25 minutes. I am all for lingering over dinner but 2 hours and 25 minutes for a four course meal is a bit much when you have nearly an hour with empty dirty plates sitting in front of you. We enjoyed the starter and the first course but the entrees were really just ok and dessert was highly disappointing. The highlight? It was literally the bread basket, it was maybe the greatest bread choice I have ever enjoyed. It was literally perfect. The food was tasty overall and this restaurant wants to be great but you have to have great service in order to be a great restaurant and they missed the mark.
Amazing as always.
Great food, great careful service, price typical, a little dark. A good time.
Small portions and over priced. Heard great things about this restaurant and while the service was good the food was average
Excellent food and excellent service. My only complaint is they ran out of a menu item at 7pm. Otherwise a great meal.
Always a amazing food experience! My girlfriend and I come to Boston every June to celebrate our birthdays and Craigie has been the highlight of our trips for the last 3 years. See you next June!
Service was excellent. Borderline amazing. The concept and purpose is quite admirable. Food was too salty across all dishes.
Had the fried clams, soft shell crab and shrimp pasta to start. Clams were the highlight of the meal (although still too salty). The crab although incentive lacked a memorable flavor and was super salty. The pasta itself was quite good but the sauce and limited shrimp were bland.
Main course was the pork roast, wagyu steak, and the chicken. The chicken was touted as the most amazing chicken we'll ever have. They did a great job of roasting it and showing it to you before they carve it. It was good, but the skin had no crispness to it and the meat was too salty. It was good, but for the price, more of a novelty than a great dish. The pork roast was delicious and tasty. The sausage that accompanied it was unique (tongue?). The Waygu beef was fine but not as tender as expected.
The place is nice but the music was oddly loud making conversation difficult.
Overall an OK experience. Based on the other reviews, I suspect we had an off night. An overly aggressive salt chef. The service was truly too notch. If you like the food more than we did, you'll love this place.
Awesome service and wonderful food!
I arrived for the second time at Craigie on Main. My reservations for 545 (they open at 530) and I walked in at 5:33 to a small line of people trying to push their way in. I managed to find the last open spot at the bar as I was dining alone this time. The bartender took my drink order and informed me that there was one burger left, #18/18, and asked if I wanted it, i of course nodded my head ABSOLUTELY YES. This is exactly what I had came for on my "Me day", "The craigie burger". Which is honestly the best burger I've ever gotten to sink my teeth into, in my life. The blend of beef (and I think bone marrow) make this burger absolutely decadent and delectable. I've had it once before, this time by myself since I needed some alone time with it, and it did not fail to disappoint both times. I love a good burger and this really delivers on everything, including juiciness, flavor, combination of ingredients and just overall enjoyability.
The burger was not just the star of the show, but at the bar, one of the best, if not best, old fashions I've ever had (I ordered 3) and I believe the bartender was visiting from Princeton, NJ.
Craigie on Main is truly a Cambridge gem and I hope it never changes. Even with the addition of craigie burger I hope it keeps it's integrity as a superb spot for drinks and a fantastic burger.
Food is amazing- delicious and creative
Craigie on Main is worth the hype! I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday and we had the best night! First off, just by saying we were celebrating a birthday, they put us literally in the best seat in the house. An awesome corner table so we could sit next to each other. They even put a nice note on the table saying Happy Birthday with the chef's signature. The sommelier was great and gave us an amazing recommendation, which we took him up on and ended up finishing their last bottle they had on hand of it! The pig's head was amazingly delicious. We got a great explanation from the waiters and waitresses on how to best devour it as well. I would 100% recommend this restaurant to friends and families especially when celebrating an event. I will be visiting again.
Always love this restaurant. It was hard to pick what I wanted to eat because each dish sounded amazing, and they were fantastic!
Truly excellent and memorable meal with great service! The burger (totally lived up to the hype!), ribs, and smoked fish were all outstanding. Staff was incredibly attentive and timely. I can't wait to return!
Tony Maws continues to produce wonderful menus and get food. A great experience to dine there.
Staff were great and polite. The food was just as good if not better! Definitely will come back!
Just one word for Craigie-on-Main in general, and Chef's Whim in particular: Transcendant. Sunday night Chef's Whim is something that everyone should experience. The food is so creative. As an example, on this night, the shrimp bisque with mussels and escargot was incredible. If they had served just the bisque, that would have made for a memorable experience. With the addition of big, juicy mussels, and escargot, it was the highlight of the night. I'd be there every Sunday if I could!
Delicious and creative food, personal and friendly service. The Wagyu beef with oxtail and roasted veg was my favorite.
Really enjoyed our evening at Craigie on Main. Food was outstanding, service impeccable, and an overall fabulous experience.
Delicious, innovative, great service, wonderful wine. Thank you!
Appetizers were amazing
Haven't been here in years, happy to see they haven't lost the magic. Top quality experience across the board. Every bite was tasty, servers were knowledgeable, attentive and friendly without being overbearing or pretentious, and the portions were sized small enough to allow a taste of many things. I do wish there were more options for vegetarians.
Melanie was fantastic
Great experience and valet parking a big plus. I do wish Craigie offered more fish options.
Visited restaurant with my son and his girlfriend. We thoroughly enjoyed the food. We split a whole chicken which was moist and delicious. We took home more than we ate. My son had the venison special which was also delicious. The waiter was fun and available. Unfortunately we sat in the bar area because it was the only table available so there was a bar vibe and noise. But that didn’t detract from the food.
Excellent food, My 4th visit to Craigie on Main . This time did blind tasting menu with pairings, Recommend you review menu to make sure you like all your choices.
We split the pigs head for two, it was served Peking Duck style and was delicious. Sommelier recommendation for a Riesling paired very nicely.
Craigie is absolutely the most divine dining experience in the northeast - sophisticated yet warm and inviting. The wine list is impeccably picked.
The first time we came to Craigie on Main we loved it. Food was excellent and service impeccable. No longer the case. Food was uneven in quality - several dishes were over salted. Service was slow - they tried but it could have been better. We arrived at 6 and did not get out till 8:45... a long time to sit. I ordered the dessert with the dessert wine but never got it. They made the wrong drink so I suggested they leave it instead of throw it out and we were charged for it anyway. One person in our party wanted a red wine yet our waiter, though he seem to try, kept bringing selections that no where near matched what was requested. For the money, not what we expected.
The dining experience was wondering we went for our anniversary and they had a special sign at our table wishing us a happy anniversary. The service and food was amazing!!
I was at Craigie on Main for a birthday celebration. We had a great experience, the food was delicious, the ingredients were adventurous, and the wine was perfectly matched.
In a category of their own for service and quality. Fantastic experience.
We celebrated my husband's birthday at Craigie on Main. The food was amazing, each dish with delicious ingredients uniquely prepared. The service was so attentive it was almost disruptive, but we did not feel rushed and meal as well paced.
AC was blasting making it very cold and it was very expensive. Otherwise food was good and service excellent.
Craigie on Main is my wife’s and my favorite spot in Boston to eat. Chef Tony really does it ALL correctly. He just does thing the right way, everything. All the details. The best!
I still love this restaurant. But the tasting menu was what made me LOVE this restaurant, and they no longer offer it. I'll go back a lot less often as a result, which makes me sad.
Great atmosphere and food. Open kitchen, home-style vibes but fine food. The portions are quite large so this isn´t your standard tweezer / Chef´s Table affair. But the food is excellent! A group of four, we ordered the pig head, whole chicken, and several starters and it was waaaaay to much for us. Go for sharing options and enjoy!
Amazing 6-course chef's tasting with wine pairings. We raved about each dish - the blend of flavors, the presentation, the careful pairing with the wine. Really impressed. Will be back.
Amazing as always...
Great food and wine. Great service. The staff is always friendly and knows their craft. I live far away but my first stop is always Craigie on Main when I go to Boston.
Delightful! I've dined here once before and took my boyfriend for his birthday. It was wonderful! There was a birthday greeting card from the chef on the table and the service was attentive, knowledgeable and fun. The four course menu was delicious, the food inventive and fresh. Perfect for an intimate special night. Keep up the great work!
