We went here for a 6 course tasting and every course was fantastic. They were paired well with wine!
I did tell them it was my birthday and they treated us ra to a glass of wine! How nice! We were getting a bottle, but it allowed to have a more appropriate wine with our first course!
Great food and superior service. Wonderful combination. We will be back!
We had high expectations before trekking to this James Beard award winning establishment, but found the experience uneven. Surprisingly we found the side dishes - notably the bone marrow and the bread dishes which are excellent at Craigie - more appealing than the traditional prix fixe. In particular, the kitchen seems to have oversalted the sirloin and oxtail entree', and as a result drubbing out the all the subtle flavor and juice of Wagyu beef. Seafood fares such as scallops, smelts, and oysters were solid, but not materially above the high bar set by other Bostonian establishments.
The food was good, aside from the fact that they served me something I’m fatally allergic to and the waitress caught it as I was just about to take a bite. The manager didn’t even have the decency to apologize in person. Completely unprofessional.
If I spend $500 on dinner for 3, I expect a solid experience. Not even a great experience, just a solid one. The only things that I would say held up was the food quality (aside from the aforementioned incident), and our primary waitress, who overall was good.
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Boston. I just moved back to the city recently and was looking forward to coming in for some nice drinks and food after an extremely stressful work week. I was very disappointed in the restaurant’s execution, and while I would like to think they should be as well, they really didn’t seem to care.
Thank you to the chefs! Attentive but not intrusive professional service compliments the extraordinary presentation and preparation of my son’s special birthday meal. Truly excellent.
Outstanding, creative food and the best service I've had at a Boston establishment. A real treat.
If you love fine dining and Michelin starred restaurants, this might be one of the best value (bang for your buck) restaurants that you can go to: $85/person for the four course prefixe meal. Everything was magnificent.
The mushroom conchigle pasta had an amazing depth of flavor. The entrees (the pork loin, bratwurst, and pork belly for one and the wagyu and ox tail for the other) were both magnificent. The panna cotta I had for dessert had an amazing caramel and blueberry flavor and was the best panna cotta I've ever had. The sorbet was light and refreshing.
The atmosphere was dim and romantic. The service was welcoming.
I've been to one other Michelin 2 star restaurants (along with a 3 starred and eight 1 starred restaurants), and Craigie on Main was definitely the superior of the two by miles easily (and cheaper at that). Definitely come here if you want to experience fine dining done right.
This was my 2nd time at Craigie, the last time 2 years ago when I really enjoyed it. My husband requested it for his birthday this year, as he had never been. 4 of us went, and on Saturday there is an $85/head required 4 course Prix Fixe menu (includes no drinks). My husband is a former LA based chef (who has cooked the Oscars), and the rest of us foodies who have eaten around the globe and Boston. There was nothing about this meal that was either worth the money or the calories. It was extremely ordinary. Even the "Pig's Head", which looks amazing, was bland. Presentation all good. Quality and Taste all Meh. What really astounded was the $10 supplement for a single lamb chop. That's $95/each for our two friends that ordered them for a single regular cut lamb chop (not even a double thick cut...just a single). The appetizers were particularly ordinary. I got 4 smallish oysters, but they were not special. Just oysters, and only 4. My friend got the scallop dish, and it was tasteless as much of the dinner was. He didn't bother to finish it. And my husband and other friend got the salad (the only non-shellfish option as he is allergic), and it was just odd. The sauces were so bland, including the "Mustard" and "Hoisin" sauces for the pates and pig head. Better out of a jar than here. Really. The desserts were the worst. The Prix Fixe included dessert, and all 4 were bland, and would have better from an average diner. Neither tasty nor interesting. Honestly shocked by this. The best thing I ordered was the Flash Fried Mackerel as a second course. Tasty, but with an $85 - $95/head price tag, really? And they charged an extra $10 for the smallest bowl (really cup sized) dish of cauliflower. Lastly, they bizarrely added a 3% additional service charge to the bill. We couldn't figure out what that was for, as parking is extra at $15. This is the least satisfying "Special Dinner". It's not the cost. It's the poor quality.
Wait staff was superb. Sommelier (Todd Lipman) was an amazing source of knowledge and very gracious.
The food was Amazing! I can't wait to come again!
So wonderful! For my boyfriends birthday, they took the opportunity to do some really special touches. Staff was absolutely wonderful and the food was incredible
After noting in the reservation that our evening was dedicated to a belated birthday celebration and Valentine’s Day, the hostess arranged the best seat in the house in the corner with a wonderful view of the service and the entire dining room. They even arranged a specialized note to acknowledge the occasion.
The service was impeccable, the drinks delightfully refreshing, and the food expansive and on point.
While it is a pretty penny, it’s a place worth every cent. We will be back.
Craigie was on the leading edge of the emerging Cambridge restaurant scene but has been eclipsed by newer and better peers like Giulia, Little Donkey, etc. It was disconcertingly easy to get a last minute reservation and very quiet in the restaurant (just a few years ago you couldn’t get near the place on a Thursday night). They are now a prix fixe menu only, which I didn’t know. In any case, the selection was broad and interesting. The oysters & mignonette were excellent. The fried smelts very tasty. The fish was very good but unremarkable. We had an excellent Burgundy as well. Service was good.
Amazing food amazing people!! Valentine’s Day date and it went perfectly.
This restaurant never disappoints! It’s so wonderful!!
Craigie on Main offers unique finds, quality service and decadent presentations. Highly recommend getting their prefixed four course option— where you can still incorporate a personal choice as you sift through their selections for first, second, main and desserts.
I came here on Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend. The food, drinks and service WERE AMAZING. My boyfriend really liked the Old Collins. We had a gift card.... which helped soften the blow when the check came. 😬 not a place we would go to regularly just due to the cost, but it’s now at the top of our list for special occasion dining. Great experience!
Treated my mom for my birthday - can’t wait to go back.
Love both of maws’ kitchens. Great open concept where you can see the food as it’s cooked.
Fixed price menu with incredibly fun and interesting flavor combos and great service.
Delicious food, as usual. Lovely and thoughtful service. The hostess at the door was especially warm and lovely.
Overall a delightful experience.
The food, the service, and the ambiance, was all great. I would highly recommend this restaurant, for anyone looking for a true restaurant gem in Cambridge.
Craigie on Main doesn’t disappoint. Each dish we ordered was done to perfection. Portions are modest but not so small as to seem skimpy. Every flavor and sauce is delicious in its own right. A very special meal.
The service was excellent, the food delicious. We will definitely be making Craigie on Main a consistent stop.
Food was delicious, service was great and it was a treat watching Chef Tony Maws at work. Love the burger and Chocolate Parfait. Wanted the Roasted Pig to go but was not available. Opted for the Green Circle Chicken to go and had another great Tony Maws meal the following day. Craigie is Heaven on Earth.
Excellent as always!
This is definitely a place that is really good and they do a really great job with service, food and ambiance. However, the price of the experience makes it very much a once in a while type place. I did really enjoy everything minus the bill.
Wonderfully attentive service. Extremely tasty food. Small portions. Great cocktails. Excellent and interesting wines. Good wine pairings with the food. It was an extremely cold day, and therefore, sitting right next to the brick wall in the main dining room was a little bit cold.
Will definitely go back. We will try different spot within the same restaurant Or on the bar side the next time.
The food was very good, service was excellent but the overall experience did not stand up to the bottom line in my opinion. Yes, I would go back but it's not on my short list.
LITERALLY THE BEST BURGER I HAVE EVER HAD. It’s taste is completely unique! Get it!
Good tasting menu and great food. Wait staff was pretentious and not very helpful.
Great food and ambiance makes this restaurant the perfect place for casual night out with friends. We really enjoyed the tasting menu which was a blend of epicurean delights and just well prepared food. I applaud the wine list. It’s a thoughtful collection from all over the world at prices that won’t break your budget. There’s enough here to even satisfy a burgundy fanatic
This was my first time at this restaurant and I honestly had a wonderful time! I took my boyfriend here for his birthday per his request as he used to go to Craigie on Main every year for his birthday. He took a break from going over the past few years and after dining here again just this past weekend he noticed there were many changes. He was upset with the size of the pig head and stated that in the past the pig's head was a specialty item that had to be ordered at least a few day's ahead of time by calling the restaurant. He was shocked at the size difference and that almost every table around us had a pig's head as well. He felt this took away from the novelty of the restaurant. He was also surprised that the entire menu was prix fixe. Although he loved and devoured every last bite of the food, he was hoping to just order a la carte. He also noted that the pig's head in the past used to come with small "pancakes" similar to when you order mooshi at a Chinese restaurant. Instead, the pig's head came with pieces of Boston bibb lettuce.
All in all, the food, drinks and atmosphere were top notch. I know I would certainly come back with my girlfriends or family for a special dinner, but unfortunately my boyfriend who is a long time diner at Craigie on Main will not be returning. Our server was attentive in the beginning, but soon got lost in the shuffle of a busy Saturday night of tables. The bus boy was more attentive to our table, which to both of us is not a good sign of staffing. While I totally understand how busy restaurants are on a Saturday night, considering that we noted it was a special birthday dinner I would have hoped for more from our waitress. At one point we waited almost 20 minutes for our second round of drinks to come back to the table. Lastly, we were asked if we wanted to take home our left overs, and when we replied "yes", our left overs never made it back to us. I was disappointed by this and we were both too embarrassed to ask for them.
Definitely old school. I can see how this is a cute place for traditionalists looking for a special occasion spot.
Great menu, started with excellent cocktails. Service was excellent would recommend
Their house burger was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend it.
My husband's steak was very tiny, and certainly not worth the price. He complained and the cost of his entire meal was taken off the bill. We didn't ask for this, and were very impressed that the staff took our situation seriously!
It was a great dining experience and the foods were awesome, we had 4 people and we ordered the pig head for the entree, it was delicious but we couldn’t finish it because it was huge! It’s definitely a nice place to get together with friends
Unreal burger just unreal
We had a very nice dinner at Craigie. The waitstaff was very attentive. The food and drinks were both delicious. The tasting menu has limited options, so if you are a picky eater, this place might not be for you. Overall, a very good spot to eat dinner for a special occasion.
Tony Maws and team have been dishing out creative and distinctive food for years, with attentive and appropriate service. I am happy to say they continue to do so. I brought some first timers to the Craigie, and the choice made me look good. Plus, I revisited some old favorites (like marrow bones) and tried some new dishes (like heirloom kale salad.) It was all good.
