About Permanently Closed - Craftbar
This restaurant is permanently closed. Chef Stephen Gonzales prepares seasonal inspired dishes at Tom Colicchio’s casual Flatiron restaurant. The menu features a wide variety of small & large plates from Snacks, House-Made Charcuterie, Salumi, Artisanal Cheeses, Salads as well as Handmade Pastas, all expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The rustic and comfortable dining room lends itself to a quick lunch where guests can try our Croque Monsieur, a full dinner of Choucroute Garnie and Ricotta Ravioli, or a snack of Pecorino Arancini and East Coast Oysters. We are also serving a soul-satisfying brunch with dishes like Pork Scrapple & Eggs and our Applewood Smoked Salmon prepared in-house. Be sure to save room for Pastry Chef, Michal Shelkowitz’s creations including her take on the S’mores Tart.

Sad to say I made it here right before they decided to close this past Saturday. The Food was amazing, the drinks were great, and the ambience was perfect. The overall experience I've had dining here was excellent. I honestly have nothing negative to say. The highlight was the Lamb Pastrami dish which I have no heard or tried anything like it. So tender and rich in flavor, I wish I could have more of it now. I love my experience at Craftbar. I plan to visit another restaurant by Tom Colicchio and so should you.
Two couples celebrating a friends bday. Nice touch they personalized the menu with her name. Menu was interesting in a good way; Unusual combinations that worked!
Very slow service by friendly waiter. 3 hour dinner. Good thing we were enjoying our conversations.
It's a shame that craftbar will be closing. It was a go to place in the neighborhood with good food and consistent service. I had a perfectly cooked bream set on a bed of toasted quinoa so that the contrasts were delightful. Fun pisco dark sour cocktail. The remaining Craft restaurants are pricier and less casual.
Craft bar is my go-to restaurant in New York. Always reliably lively with excellent innovative dishes, wonderful service, hip but homey. They treat everybody as a special guest, I have never had anything but a terrific meal there. It is a jewel in the pantheon of New York restaurants.
Great food and service. Arugula salad very tasty and fresh. Sea bream well-seasoned, fresh, and perfectly cooked. Mushroom ragout was fabulous! Good selection of wines by the glass. We came early so it was relatively quiet, but probably gets louder and livelier later. Would definitely recommend.
The service was the pits. The menu was extremely limited and yet the waiter had no clue what half the items were. He gave us the check and proceeded to grab it out of our hands before we had even put money on the table. Food was not horrible but overpriced for the amount and service
Love the food. Went on a date with my boyfriend. We both are serious foodies and love the place. Creative and well done dishes and drinks. Excellent wine list and cocktails. Recommend the Duck and the Pork Tortelloni ! Been twice and will return. Only complaint was the music playing was a bit electro-tech, fast paced and on the loud side, but if you could block that out it would be romantic and top notch!
I'm a big fan of Craft - one of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan. Craftbar is a bit like Craft's younger brother. Smaller menu and crowd seems to skew a little younger. But same great food. Nothing off the wall - but great ingredients cooked well and not outrageously priced for a 5 star meal.
The service was very good, however the food was a bit disappointing. The mussels were our highlight. The pork tortelloni had an unappealing texture and flavor, although the components sounded like they would be delicious. The ramps were tasty and lite, bit underwhelming.
We were a bit disappointed. There were 6 of us for a business dinner. We all felt the food was good. Nothing to write home about - especially for a Tom Colicchio restaurant.
They had a good menu - something for everyone. We had the beet salad, arugula salad, meatballs, salmon, mussels.
The restaurant had a pub-like feeling.
Service was very good. Our waiter, Matthew was great- attentive & personable.
I would try it again. Our expectations may have been too high.
Craftbar is consistently strong, and our latest meal was no different. We explored the wine list more than usual (love their cocktails) and the sommelier was helpful and quite personable. Our food managed to be simultaneously creative and comfortable, and was certainly delicious. I will miss Craftbar, and hope it finds a new home soon.
The four of us were delighted with the apps (2 baby arugula salads w/pine nuts & preserved lemon slivers, cheese fondue -- which should have come with a special fork and remain heated -, and burrata with beet cubes), cocktails (2 mules and one puddle and a ginger lemonade) and wine.
There were mix reviews on the dinners, but all agreed they were tasty (pork tortelloni - outstanding & delicate -, sea bream -- looked uninteresting to me but our frd seemed to enjoy it -, fried chicken - too bony and not enough meat but good - & rigatoni -- again, this appeared boring). We had two sides -- fantastic shishito peppers and good brussels sprouts.
We shared a small but tasty carrot cake that was artistically assembled with a zigzag line of cream chs frosting, strewn roasted pineapple cubes and a scoop of ice cream that tasted like zingy sour cream -- a fun departure from vanilla).
We also ordered some wine -- a gurner and a toscana rosso.
Service was always at hand anticipating our needs. Had a nice conversation with the sommelier about the benefits of his tasting wine, conducted away from the table.
Quite expensive due to all the liquor, despite it being our treat, we felt it was a fair value. So much fun. We'd return, but am fuming at the landlord's rent hike and the resulting move to another location...somewhere near, hopefully.
I must applaud the front desk staff who were incredibly, suberbly, overly-accommodating regarding my guest arriving in typical NYC fashion (over an hour late, but still holding our table...which was a lovely corner table), as well as the attentiveness of the wait staff. I was a bit disappointed, however, that...ordering the duck...the accompanying rice (?) was cold, though the duck itself was quite good. Also, the Snickers Sundae had most of it stuck like cement to the bottom of the bowl, garnering about 4 bites for $12, so not such a great value (and not all that tasty). Overall, a nice time, but for $150 for 2 people, there are better options in the Union Sq/Flatiron area. I will say, though, that the staff were quite outstanding all around!
Food was reliable and well presented; wonderful American fare/cuisine. Food came out in a timely manner.
Service was 'Fair' - staff was professional and friendly but there were lagging periods between service. Staff was responsive and accommodating, but overall there were several waiting periods between courses and clearing of plates.
Once my boyfriend and I heard that our BELOVED Craftbar was going to close this Spring, we had to come back and celebrate its consistent excellence! Continued excellence in food, service, and hospitality! The Holy Grail of dining and they knock each one out of the park everyday!! This visit did not disappoint, as expected! The rare feeling of dining nostalgia that Craftbar has created for the local area is unquantifiable! A special 'Thank You' to TC and his superb staff for allowing us to enjoy the GEM that is Craftbar!! You will be undeniably missed beyond words!! *mic drop
Met friends for a weekend brunch date. Had an 11 am reservation. Arrived at the door at 10:45, door was locked. Walked around until 11 am and tried the door again, still locked. A server who was standing just inside the door stood and watched us and shook his head "no".
We stood outside for about 8 more minutes before a female staff member unlocked the door.
Staff were not friendly.
Food was just average at best. The croissant with a poached egg was absolutely gross. Drizzled with a sauce so cloyingly sweet I could not eat it. Good thing TC was not being judged on the other side of our table. There were several problems with the seasoning of the other dishes as well, ( the potato chips )!
Decor/ambience was disappointing.
200$ for brunch that left my party of four somewhat hungry and feeling unwelcome.
