Craft Ratings and Reviews
Craft exceeded my expectations with food, service, and ambiance. I was meeting with my old friends visiting the city and the impression of a New York dining experience for them was very special. Salads were made from freshest greens, meets were beautifully cooked and seasoned. presentation and wine pairing were also quite spectacular as well as the service. No complaints whatsoever! Bravo Chef Colicchio!
I have always been a fan of the chef and was so looking forward to visiting for the first time. It was a fantastic experience and exceeded my expectations. My server, Cesar, was awesome and the entire staff made my special occasion that much more special. I had the tasting menu and it was the best meal I’ve ever ate. Thank you so much to the Craft staff for making the best day perfect :)
We were a party of 4, all of us enjoyed our food and drinks. The service was excellent. My only comment is on interior decor, it feet slightly outdated with a hint of overall dissonance. However I think that would be obvious only to very few individuals, so don't let that stop you from enjoying what Craft does well - prepared delicious food.
Exceeded our high expectations. We went for the tasting menu and it was superb. The generous wine pairings put it over the top. Each course arrived at the pace we set. The plates were works of art that we pondered before finishing every delectable morsel. Service was impeccable, we felt like VIP’s but it was never intrusive. Dessert was the table favorite but the amuse bouche is the bite I will never forget, pure heaven. Our visit ended with a special plate sent from the pastry chef welcoming our first time visitors to the city. We were invited to see the downstairs kitchen where we got to see each station. One person in our party had a mollusk allergy and was generously accommodated.
The food was amazing. We ordered octopus ( must have), butter onion pasta ( a bit too al dente) , scallops, pork porterhouse , assorted mushrooms ( delicious) , and potatoe gratin ( must have).
It was our first Christmas as a married couple and my husband Loves Tom on top chef. So it was a surprise for him. It's a nice place for a date. The service was amazing. Good job Ed.
Amazing! The simplicity of the ingredients truly shine here because everything is cooked to perfection in the most simple of preparations. The short rib was delicious, as was the lobster, scallops and sole. The gnocchi is divine, although I didn't love the mashed potatoes as they were lacking flavor IMO. Can't wait to go back!
One of the best meals I've ever had. Seriously, my wife and I have wanted to visit here since we became fans of Top Chef in 2006. My wife and I got a Gift Card for our wedding (5 years ago) and never got around to using it. Finally the stars aligned and we were able to make a reservation and head into the City. It did not disappoint. For starters, we had the Octopus and the Oysters. Both were a great way to start off the meal. The Octopus was thick and grilled to perfection, while the Oysters weren't slimy or fishy, they were meaty and a perfect beginning to a memorable meal. For our main course, we elected to go with the Lamb and the Duck. Both cooked with such detail and care. My lamb was easily the best lamb I've ever had and my wife's duck was both flavorful and well balanced. For our sides, we went with the brussel sprouts and the risotto. We've come to judge a place by it's ability to make risotto and Craft did not disappoint. That risotto was not only cooked well but had so much stinkin' flavor we were practically liking the dish it came on. It's pricy, don't get me wrong, but worth a memorable meal that we will keep talking about for years to come.
We are long-time fans of Craft, and Colicchio restaurants in NYC in general. Craft has been a go-to restaurant for us whenever we want to celebrate something special. This year we decided to celebrate our holiday dinner there. Everything from the food to the service to the wine to the ambiance was fantastic. It was an exceptional night - a huge thanks to the service team and Kurt, the General Manager, who made everything happen. This place is a NYC gem and we are looking forward to going many more times in the future.
We shared an arugula pine nut salad to start which was delicious. After that, the rest of the meal was disappointing. I ordered the lamb, which was dull and unpleasantly fatty. My husband and I make a better lamb at home. Also, had the delicata squash as a side dish. It was overwhelmingly salty. My glass of red zin was also unremarkable.
My suspicion is the restaurant is resting on its reputation and business from tourist.
Been there twice recently for lunches. Menu selections were slightly varied and delicious. Portions are a little on the small side but made with quality ingredients and all have great flavor combinations. Can't be sure but it appeared most lunchers were business people. The casual, almost slow, service likely makes for a relaxing dinner but was somewhat inconvenient for mid-day. Wait staff is friendly and efficient and even with most seats filled there are plenty of folks available to keep things moving. Two course ($24) and three course ($36) prix fixe lunch menu provides overall very good value.
I have been to Craft several times and the service on Monday was disappointing from the start. The food was excellent. An example of poor service was when my client ordered a White Russian and the server can back with a drink that looked like a coke. We asked for the staff to give us 2 minutes to review the menu and they got lost for 20 minutes. I could add more comments; the service needs to match the high quality food that was served otherwise this restaurant will start to lose customers who are willing to pay high prices.
YUM YU YUM - This is my wifes (Vegetarian) favourite restaurant. Lunch is a bargain, Service is low key but consistently friendly and attentive - and genuinely pays attention to feedback and dietary restrictions.
Food is generally outstanding - this time we had 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts, My Beef Tartare was over salted, but the beef itself had a wonderful creamy texture when I got bits without salt; everything else was, as usual, superlative.
We will be returning.
After dining at Craft one can only ponder whether he/she would have received better service at the DMV.
The evening started off with a twenty minute wait for our 8:45pm reservation. During our wait at the bar, the bartender spilled on a drink on my date's purse without offering so much as an apology. Incident #1.
Eventually we were seated in a charming section of the restaurant. However, our server appeared to be allergic to the section -- it took another twenty minutes before he came by to take our order. Incident #2.
My date and I were quite hungry at this point and asked for bread, which was being enjoyed by all of the other diners. The server assured us he would bring some, but never did. Incident #3.
Finally the meal came and it was.... utterly disappointing. The flat iron steak could only be described as bland -- it even appeared to be devoid of salt. The pasta, arugula salad and brussel sprouts were equally unimpressive. Incident #4.
At this point, I could only hope that paying for the meal would go smoothly. It didn't. Instead, there was another extended wait, followed by the return of my credit card with a large greasy fingerprint from our waiter. Incident #5.
I will end this review by offering a few words of wisdom to the OpenTable community. If you are thinking about dining at Craft -- simply don't.
