Tom Colicchio's Craft in New York City received the James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant nationwide in 2002 & five years later brought Craft across the country to join the other "top chefs" in Los Angeles. Back at CRAFT for a birthday and get together. Wonderful lunch. Light streaming in through the windows, attentive waitstaff and delicious food. Highly suggest the fixed price lunch and leave room for dessert. But note; they charge for refills on the lemonade but not the iced tea.
The group had hanger steak, halibut, ahi, and pasta - enjoyed by all and delighted with the endive salad. Oh yeah, save room for the desserts!
We went for my birthday. It was such a wonderful night. The service was excellent on all counts. The food was mostly really really good. The scallops were excellent the hen of the woods mushrooms superb. The pork belly was dry and I actually thought that my first attempt at braised short ribs turned out much more flavorful then there's. The desserts were average the risotto was boring but I think risotto is boring anywhere. And a couple of dishes were just blah. The bread is to die for the ambience was my favorite. I would go once a year but that's just because I'm not used to dropping that kind of cake on dinner. We spent over $200 but we completely over ordered just for fun.
We were four for dinner on a weeknight and had a good experience. The service is friendly and reasonably prompt, the food imaginative and good, the venue very pretty with all the twinkling outdoor lights. The noise level was OK; we had no problem holding a conversation. The restaurant is quite pricey; well over $200/couple, with $30 corkage fee for wine. Finally, I do not like the "shared-plates-everything extra" format, which is why the bill gets as high as it does; I feel that I am eating at a very expensive buffet, rather than fine dining.
The service was so above and beyond fantastic I can’t say enough positive remarks. And the ambiance was great to make a birthday feel special, but still maintain conversation without shouting. Goes without saying the food was exquisite. One of the best (if not most) memorable, top-notch dining experiences in LA.
Arrived at 6:30, one hour prior to our reservation and enjoyed drinks in the bar. At 7:30, we asked to be seated and were told we'd have to wait for our guests to arrive. Once seated, we ordered Octupus (over cooked and dry), Mashed potatoes (excellent), Carrots (excellent), and Rib Eye Steak at $106.00. It was ordered medium-rare but it came medium well...dry and hard. We asked for another and the waiter said okay begrudgingly and that it would take 45 minutes as he rolled his eyes. Moments later, we noticed him nearby chatting to another waiter while they both stared at us. Fifteeen minutes later, he brought another steak and while it was cooked properly, it was room temperature. Desserts were good. With all the great steak places in LA, I'd definitely pass on this one.
I love Craft! I'm sorry it's not closer to where I live. The food is superb, but I have to say the service is outstanding. The staff was extremely attentive, my water was never empty, the food arrived piping hot. Just absolutely friendly staff.
The food was to die for. We had the mixed mushrooms, tahgiatelle with short ribs, wow, and avocado salad. Dessert was superb and they keep giving us little free appetizers and pre-dessert desserts. And a muffin to take home! We always come back to Craft for our special celebrations.
Always a good choice for a special dinner. Service is wonderful without being overbearing. They pour the wine properly - a little at a time. There is always an amuse-bouche first and a plate of small sweet treats after dessert. The bread is fabulous. Delicious octopus appetizer and my husband's steak was delicious. A lovely memory for our 57th wedding anniversary.
Definitely a business lunch spot only. Made the mistake of coming on a weekend night. Food came out at all at once in a hurry and plates were cleared even with food still left on them. I can see this being appropriate for a busy lunch crowd, not on a weekend night when it claims to be a small-plates restaurant. All of our first courses came at once: oysters, beet salad, and pork belly. I've never been to a restaurant that served oysters with other food at the same time, nor have I ever been to a small-plates restaurant where the wait staff and kitchen didn't thoughtfully pace and serve the small-plates in a logical order. Then came the rest all at once - overwhelming our table: mushrooms, potatoes, scallops, short ribs, and roasted cauliflower. Again, such strange service. We were so stuffed, and we had asked the waiter when ordering if we were ordering the right amount of food and he said yes. I appreciate when servers are more thoughtful and responsive. I think it's just used to a bustling business lunch crowd and can't downshift for the weekend. Food overall was unremarkable. So many other great restaurants out there. Won't go here again.
My husband and I took another couple there to celebrate her birthday, and could not have had a more pleasurable experience. They printed a "Happy Birthday" and her name on our menus, they provided her with birthday cake and everyone there wished her a happy birthday. The food was delicious, the service was fantastic, I would definitely recommend.
The service and ambiance of the restaurant were nice. The restaurant was vibrant with local beverly hills and century city entertainment types.
The food at Craft is a 3 of 10 at best. The food was underwhelming. The service was good but I do not go out to a "finer" restaurant on a Saturday night for good service and a poor meal.
The one bright shining star was the Kale salad we had - yes the salad was the best item we ate. The complex balance of fresh pair, candied walnuts and the greens set inside a tangy dressing were delightful and delicious.
The Ricotta Cavatelli with chanterelle mushrooms had 7-10 mushrooms. While very tasty, you were mostly eating plain cavatelli.
The Ahi Tuna was served well done versus rare (even when requested rare). The flavors in this dish were refreshing but the fish was overcooked taking away from what could have been a highlight of the meal.
For a writer who eats scallops all over the world, I would have to say this was perhaps the worse scallop I have ever eaten. While perfectly seared and cooked, the scallop itself had little no flavor, tasted like the chef took a scallop and seared it without any seasoning or sauce. The sauce it was served with was more of a fish broth with no flavor than a sauce of any kind. The manager attempted to re-fire a second scallop. The second attempt was unfortunately worse than the first. The second dish resulted in an overcooked and over salted scallop. Chef's have off nights, but this scallop should be removed from the menu if they continue to serve it this way.
The cauliflower and shishito peppers we had were cooked perfect and had lots of flavor, but again, you do not want to go out to dinner and have your salad and vegetables be the best food you ate.
I eat at and review restaurants for a living, Craft, once a shining star in Century City clearly has lost its luster. There are far better restaurants in Century City and nearby Beverly Hills. Do not waste your time or money on this one.
Wonderful service, great food with a beautiful yet casual ambiance. Our waiter Jim was very good. We were very well taken care of by the restaurant manager Matt. He was attentive and kind. Checked in on us to make sure the food was good and that we were enjoying our evening. Really great staff. One of my westside favorites. Thank you, Craft!
My wife and I went to Craft Los Angeles to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. What a treat! Everyone knew it was our anniversary (I was asked if we were celebrating a special occasion with they confirmed my reservation.) They even printed a personalized menu for us as a keepsake. The food was incredible and the service was the best. Thanks for making our special evening that more special!
One of best restaurant experiences I have had in a long time. The service could not have been better an the food was excellent. Everything from making reservations to the printed personalized menus and the amazing chocolate birthday cake made the dining experience memorable. My thanks to the entire staff
We got 7 dishes a cocktail and a glass of wine for our anniversary dinner. Out of the 7 dishes two were great, two were good and 4 were average to not good (no flavor). The cocktails we got were fantastic, really top notch. The glass of wine was good too. The service was amazing. The bill after tip was over $350, which I wouldn't mind paying for a special occasion if the food is amazing. Ultimately I left with the feeling that I could have gone to several places nearby and paid $150-200 for the same quality meal or better. I didn't hate it but I won't go back.
Great design and atmosphere. Food is good for LA standards. Could be more creative. Gnocchi were good but not outstanding. Our fish was too dry but the duck was excellent. The chocolate dessert was a bit dry too. Great wine list.
A bit quiet for a weekend night.
This is definitely our favorite steak house. Amazingly delicious, high quality food, steak cooked right on, amazing salads, delicious appetizers, smashed potatoes are a must try, and exquisite desserts. Pleasant staff, love the ambiance. Customer centric staff in every aspect; you’ll feel right at home. ;)
I took a client to Craft for a business lunch. My request was a quieter table for two of us. They accommodated us with a booth on the end. I like the natural light that comes into the dining area. The service is fantastic. It's isn't too big of a challenge eating vegan in LA, but I am a little self-conscious of appearing fussy in front of a client. However, as soon as I mentioned I was vegan, the server made an awesome entree suggestion not on the menu. Oh, thank you. This place is definitely a splurge. My company paid the tab of $130 for two salads, two entrees, a latte, tip/tax included. And I parked in the garage, which was $37 on my corporate AmEx. I made the error of passing up valet parking, which I believe would be more economical. Regardless, great experience.
Poor coordination at the Maitre D'. Called to make a slight adjustment, which was accepted, only to arrive at the restaurant and be advised that they didn't have tables at the time that we had just changed to...maybe they should have said that in the first place when we called. But they were quick with a solution and the food and service were fine. Loved the side vegetables and mushrooms in particular. Very nice wines by the glass, at a good price.
