CRAFT HOUSE Dana Point
At Craft House we pride ourselves on having one of the best American whiskey selection in South Orange County. From you daily drinking whiskey to the one's you've spend your life trying to taste (all of the Pappy van Winkle collection).
Our second visit and food was terrific again! Had the same waiter too, Frank, and his service was great. There was a mixup on our burger order, but Frank took care of it right away and had another one made. We like this place and will definitely be back again
I am always amazed (being a restaurant owner myself) how people are treated at the door. You make a resv for a specific time (5:15) and then, when you arrive you are asked to wait to be seated in an otherwise empty restaurant. When we asked why we were told they had just sat a table and "they didn't want the servers to be overworked. " We waited at the bar for 10-15 mins. (ordered drinks which only once came before we were seated) watched 3 servers talk, joke with nothing obvious to do and then we were sat. I can see if they had just sat 4 or more people at the same time in different sections waiting but this was not the case. The server we had was actually very good. Food some good (zucchini flowers, pasta with veg, but fish (yellowfin) was overcooked. For the price is should be great. The side on that planked squash also not very tasty and it was cold. (Suggest they cube that and serve in a side bowl) The experience here has mostly been "just ok". We like the restaurant and concept especially given choices in DP but these guys need to get better.
Always a yummy and great service
Great atmosphere and delicious food. Very accommodating of children as well
The food and drink here are carefully Crafted (pun intended) and beautifully executed. We enjoyed all of our dishes. Thanks!
A great evening with our company who was visiting from Maui. They were so blown away by the food and drinks.
We ordered 4 crispy rice/tuna appetizers in addition to the others just because they couldn't get over how good they were!
The restaurant was amazing. The drinks were delicious and the food was fantastic. Try the street corn if it’s on the menu! I could have had an entire bowl myself. The chicken sandwich was really delicious and my husband raved about the meatloaf. The best part of our dining experience was our server, Frank. He was absolutely fantastic. He was knowledgeable and passionate about his job.
The food was AMAZING! We did not expect it to be so good. The lamb fettuccine I had was a very creative dish, and the strawberry shortcake could have been the best I've ever had. Can't wait to go back.
After trying many recommended restaurants in Dana Point, we tried the Craft House, and we are glad we did. I was able to book a table on Open Table for 7:15 on a Sunday night. The restaurant has a great feel to it. Very modern, yet warm and inviting. The staff were very friendly, helpful with food descriptions and recommendations. The music selections were great. Now for the most important part, the food. The Mexican street corn as an appie was delicious. Just the right amount of spice! I had the scallops and they were perfectly cooked and set upon risotto that had squash and the perfect amount of parmesan cheese in it. My husband had the grilled meatloaf. It's not your mama's meatloaf, it's better! Just the perfect amount of smoky flavoring. The hand crafted cocktails are delightful!
We rarely have dessert, but we went for the Better than Nick's Butter Cake. The cake is served in a ramekin that they put in the oven until it's just browned perfectly, and then top it with gelato and strawberry puree. It was pure heaven, and needs to be shared with someone!
Great food and drinks
Great food, creative cocktail menu, great ambiance.
I took my husband here for a special Father’s Day brunch. It was anything but special. Everything from ordering our food to getting our food was extremely slow. My husband ordered biscuits and gravy and I ordered the eggs benedict. The biscuits were nearly burned and very dry. My eggs benedict was served to me without the hollandaise sauce. When I asked for a side of hollandaise, it was brought to me in a very small cup and was cold. Needless to say, we were very disappointed and will not be goin back.
We really enjoyed everything about CH! Had the scallops with risotto, it was delicious. The restaurant has a cool vibe, great bar and awesome service. Really liked that they allow leashed pets on the patio! We’re going back for brunch with our pup!!
Foodie place to try for sure! Must do in Dana Point.
Best restaurant in South County. Great food, very unique. Great service. You wont be dispointed
Our server Alex was outstanding - he knew the menus and made recommendations, and answered questions on cocktails. The bar was out of an item to make one of their signature cocktails but they offered another recommendation which was a hit. The food was delicious, had the fancy toast to start and then the special burger with fries - which were served hot, a big plus. Wanted to try a specific dessert but the restaurant was out of it - they were so gracious they gave two desserts others on the house.
We were there for our sons birthday. We come to Crafthouse just for regular occasion and also for special occasions. The food and the staff are always wonderful. I love how they add different seasonal items to the menu. It’s always fun to try something new. The food doesn’t disappoint. This restaurant has become our ‘go to’ place because all our family and friends love coming here as well. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Another great meal at the ‘local hangout’. The food is casual fare. The focus is on the cocktails, beer, and wine. The wine list is very good. But, the emphasis is on the beer selection. There’s almost too many to choose one. Beer in the can some with a complimentary koozy. As for the food, I love the ‘experimentation’. It’s a mix of pub fare, Tex-Mex, and local seafood fare. Of course, there is the selection of ‘comfort food’ (with their interpretation. I had the James Beard Foundation burger - an interesting mix of ground beef, pork, and mushrooms. Very rich tasting and very filling. And, the appetizers were quite tasty. We love dining here. And, it’s almost walking distance from our house. A great addition to Dana Point dining.
We could not have had a better date night. The bartender was incredible, he helped me chose some great options for a whiskey flight. They had great beer for my husband and the food was A+. Great way to celebrate our anniversary
Food was good. Service was not that great. Server never came back- took a very long time to bring last items. Was very noisy. Have had better experiences here previously.
The food was amazing. The corn appetizer is incredible. I’ve had homemade meatloaf my whole life and the meatloaf was the best I’ve ever eaten. Awesome bourbon selection. Great service and atmosphere. Highly recommend.
This is one of our favorite places! You know it’s good when you go for dinner two nights in a row, and order the same stuff again!! Never disappoints!
Great food and as always, great service. P.S. the Better than Nicks Butter Cake is amazing!
We had been disappointed in the past yet decided to give it another try. Mistake. Menu descriptions are great , execution is not. I had the roast duck, it was erred with literally an artistic
smear of potatoes that could not have totaled up to one tablespoon of food. Sauce was artistically dripped on the plate, yet none on the duck and the duck was not seasoned and a small portion.
We had heard rave reviews about the meatloaf so my husband ordered it. Would have probably been pretty good if it hadn’t been dried out.
Last but not least, a very undersized martini that was far below van an average rating.
Enjoyed the good food and service
The meatloaf was too spicy. Red pepper was overwhelming and not to our taste. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the risotto accompaniment was well done. The meals were pricey.
This place had so much promise but has seemed to have lost its way. We watched it get built for months and months and really, really wanted to like it when it finally opened. We have tried it several times now and just won't be gong back. The food started off good but has gradually deteriorated to mediocre. The service staff is too snooty for its own good, especially given the decay in quality of the food offerings. Also, It's very loud inside. If you can get a table outside (sometimes yes, sometimes no, depending on the hostess and some criteria that remains a mystery but seems to have nothing to do with reservations) you contend with PCH noise but at least its quieter than inside.
I’d been here once before and had a pretty good experience but this time the service was slow and the veggie pasta was clumpy, like it had been sitting out for a while before it was brought out.
Great view, amazing drink menu, incredible food! The outside covered patio was great for a summer night.
Great everything but the traffic on PCH was pretty loud.
Good service & delicious food!
The food was pretty good, and the over all look of the place is nice, but that hostess Malena that they have in the front working made the dining experience.
First time we have tried this spot. We were seating in the back room behind the bar and there was a large birthday group seated at tables pushed together that was the entire length of that room, and people just kept coming and pulling up more chairs. At last count I think there had to be 25-30 people. The group was so loud that no one else in the back room could even chat without shouting as loud as they could. That being said, our waiter, the kitchen manager, and all of the support staff, was stellar. Our waiter was amazing, can’t recall his name, but he is a wake surf/board guy on the side. He was so cool, and went above and beyond to make the night special, not only for us, but for the others he was waiting on in that room, for dealing with the rambunctious party goers. Our food was delish, we had the crispy rice, the chicken wings, and the shrimp with risotto. They were short on shrimp so they let us choose another protein to supplement. We had them add a piece of the fried chicken that was absolutely melt in your mouth. I had a bowl of the tortilla soup, which was the only thing I wasn’t crazy about. It was just a little boring, and could’ve used some Mexican cheese, cilantro, tortilla strips or even a little sour cream. I also had the buratta salad, and that was amazing. The overall vibe in the place was super cool, industrial rustic chill vibe. The people were friendly, and everyone seemed like they were having a great time, we closed the place, and will definitely be hitting it the next time we are in town. The kitchen manager, who may have been an owner or something, came out and chatted with us about the noisy party, and apologized a number of times before we left for the evening. They brought us an amazing sparkling wine, and a beautiful butter cake with strawberry sauce for celebration of our engagement. It was as close to perfect as it could’ve been. Thank you for helping us celebrate in such a great way.
Great atmosphere and great food! We will definitely be back again.
Everything was great, I would’ve given 5 stars all around but their service was not 5 star. They forgot to bring my husbands coffee that he’d ask for to accompany his desert. It seemed there was some confusion between the staff, otherwise all good!
The chopped vegetable salad was vastly different from the menu description. When we pointed out to our waiter that the menu listed pink lady apples and didn’t list blue cheese and we got a fist-sized serving of endive hearts smothered in blue cheese, he said, “oh, weird” and then didn’t correct the error and charged us anyway. Then our meatloaf came out like warm smothered in what tasted like canned marina sauce. Best description of that course would be, Chef Noy Ardee Cat Food Liaf. It was truly horrid. Then, I paid $10 for a can of local beer.
I had the pasta bolenese and the wife had the fried chicken sandwich and both were superb! However, apparently on Thursdays all there whiskeys are half priced, even the single malts. And, the selection of whiskeys are really great! So that for me was definitely worth it.
A fabulous meal and cocktails! Attention to detail is evident at every level. While we rarely order dessert, the butter cake was worth the calories! Worth a visit. Perhaps our best meal in the entire trip!
