We recently went for HVRW 2020 and had the slow roasted pork shank. One word, bland. At first bite, I can note the taint taste of bore. The chef could have sampled the dish and would tell that it needed salt at least. I could not enjoy it as is and had to take it to-go to add some herbs and spices to the dish. It would have been nice to be offered fresh pepper like the table near me but alas I was not and the food and my experience suffered. I did share my distaste with the hostess when leaving and she went and got the manager. I told him that the good was bland and was told that is how the chef does it and "thank you for your feedback". That was it. That was sad.
We ate outside on a chilly night. It felt as if stars (the lights) were above us. The heater was great. The lobster bisque and our pasta dish were delicious and warmed us up with a bottle of great red wine. Thank you Crabtree Kittle for another perfect night.
Birthday dinner for my husband! Had an excellent meal as usual! Staff is courteous and attentive as always. Loved the oysters and sushi pizza!!
Dining indoors during Covid at The Kittle House seemed like a good way to support a local restaurant, and they did a good job of distancing tables and online menus. I have eaten here happily many times over the years; however, this time did not live up to those meals. Maybe there was a different chef, or more difficult to keep fresh ingredients during these difficult times. My Ceasar salad was good enough, nothing to write home about. But, the swordfish I ordered (for a paltry $34 or so) tasted little like it's the namesake. It was dry and lacked flavor, and I barely ate half of it.
I'm going to chalk this up to the pandemic, but other local spots are doing a better job.
My husband and I stayed at the inn for his birthday and had a lovely time. We drank a delicious old wine at a very reasonable price! The butternut squash soup and pumpkin gnocchi were both perfect. Highly recommend.
perhaps its because of covid but the food quality has gotten worse .My usual excellent lobster roll was salty and had more tomatoes then lobster
Tried to dine outside, and, despite their best efforts, was way too cold. Inside was not crowded, so worked out.
Had the HVRW menu. Was an incredible deal to eat here.
Lovely setting, great food & good service. Will definitely go back again.
Wonderful meal at the Kittle House. We were celebrating a birthday and it was nice to get out to dinner. We ate outside under the tent. Two sides were open so we felt there was plenty of ventilation. It was a tad cold as they don't have a great number of heaters and our table did not have one. We couldn't have asked for nicer waiters, bus boys etc. We had 1 vegan and two GF of the 5 of us. It was easy and they were well versed in the lingo. Everyone enjoyed their entrees and appetizers. A small cake was brought out at the end with a candle. Would do it again. A memorable, fun night made better by the delicious food and wonderful staff.
Always one of our favorite restaurants.
The Restaurant Week Menu was quite good and all four of us were more than pleased with the entire evening!
Went for restaurant week. It wasn’t crowded; tables were socially distanced. I love the Crabtree cat that seems to greet you at the door. Very cozy restaurant; sat in the bar area which was perfect. I’m sure that whenever the fireplace is burning( wasn’t that night) it would add to the ambiance.
I had the pumpkin gnocchi which was delicious as was the lobster bisque. Try the pork shank for dinner and Kittle cat crunch for dessert. Service was excellent and we’ll be back!
We arrived for lunch at 1:30 and were placed in the bar area, even though in the reservation I requested the dining room. They did have outdoor seating, but it was raining outside. The bar area is dark and gloomy and we were the only ones sitting there. We were celebrating and it was not very festive. We had been there many times before and had always been impressed by the service and the food, but they must have been short staffed, the waiters/manager that we were accustomed to were not working and you could tell the difference. The food was not as impressive as I remembered and we left feeling dissapointed in our experience.
We went during Hudson Valley restaurant week and there was not enough staff. The waiter only came to our table twice and he lost out on us ordering more wine because our entree showed up before he got back to us around dessert time. The soups and desserts were delicious the entrees were mediocre. Since you are in a tent without heat it was not the most romantic ambience.
On a beautiful warm fall afternoon, we were able to dine outside in the garden area. Food, wine and service were all top notch. One of our favorite places.
My friend and I had lunch there in what might have been the last day of "summer" (72 degrees on 11/10). There were something like 24 tables set outside in the garden - all very nicely spaced. Service was attentive. The food and drinks were wonderful. No complaints whatsoever.
While the food was very good the service was poor. The waiters kept apologising for the delay which was apparently in the kitchen. It took about 40 minutes to get our main course. The surprising part is that whilst the waiters were very apologetic no one from management had the courtesy to come and explain the delay. We have been to Crabtree Kittle House several times before and have been extremely satisfied but this time.......
Everything we ate was delicious. Wait staff kept answering our menu questions with “I don’t know, let me check.” Very unusual for such a fine restaurant.
Other than that we really had no complaints and would recommend for the quality & taste of their food.
The ambiance was certainly not consistent with the price of the food. The food was good but not great for the price. I wouldn't go back as it did not live up to its reputation.
We would have gladly offered a 5 for service if the older busboy had refrained from opining about the wine which we had requested. He ventured to respond to a question which he clearly did not know the correct response to.
Second time going here. Great place with great food and staff.
Food was great...place was empty because we went at an odd time but the place was well set up for social distancing... best Brussels sprouts I ever had...going back soon
Wonderful ambience with a great Sunday Brunch.
The food was good and i understand the hardships of a restaurant during corona but we had reservations and we were walked outside and it was so cold..the waiter sat us inside but we should have been asked at the start if we wanted to sit outside or not..the tables were marked off with clear shower curtins which was a bit of a turn off.My niece got married there last year and it was wonderful so I guess I had very high expections.
Great meal. Sat outside on a beautiful evening.
Delicious and beautiful patio!
The service was very good. The staff was professional and courteous. Restaurant is pricey.
First restaurant out in a long long time. Perfect weather, socially distanced seating, great friends, good service and excellent food.
Food was incredible, as was the service. But what was the most impressive to me, as someone who is at triple risk for contracting the corona virus, was their ability to maintain the ambience while providing safety for their patrons. The outside seating was lovely - you had a choice of in the tent as well as outside the tent. But we opted for inside and they had a clear plastic wall dividing all of the tables. I've always been a fan of the Kittle House, but was leary of going at this time, but I would highly recommend it for a high end meal that is safe.
Had an enjoyable outdoor lunch in their very pretty garden.
Almost an hour between appetizers and main course. Very little attention paid to our table. For outdoor dining not enough heaters.
It has been several years since we were at Crabtree's and in spite of some short comings, we had a very nice time and the food, was as I remembered: excellent! My disappointments were in the seating location and the initial service once the problem was resolved. The service did improve by the end of dinner.
We made our reservation for 4:30pm Sunday Oct 4. It was made on Open Table mid Sept. No where on my reservation did it mention outdoor seating nor was I asked about it when I arrived. I was very surprised as we were lend outside to our table. The outdoor dining area is pretty but the ground was very damp and muddy and at 4:30 the sun was going down it it was getting very cold. I next big shock was to find out they had no propane for their heaters. You don't spend this kind of money dine at a cold, muddy cafe. After about 30 minutes, we were finally seated inside (with another apology for forgetting about us). At that point there was only one other table filled inside and I think the staff didn't realize we were they because it took over 20 minutes for someone to finally come by. After that, things improved and we had a very enjoyable meal! I understand the current situation but you don't go to Crabtree's Kittle House for this kind of service, much improvement is needed!
Here for a birthday.
As always Gustavo and the team were awesome!
The food was really good. I had the swordfish and it was perfectly cooked and uniform in color. It was delicious.
I almost always have the lobster dinner. I have seen steak go by and it looks amazing. I also have had osso bucco and it was great.
Beautiful dinner with my friend Penny! I loved the Butternut squash soup followed by their Mediterranean salad with hummus and chicken. My friend Penny loved their apple soup and her meal. Service was A+. We sat outside of the Kittle House in their side garden area and it has a lovely ambiance.
The experience would have been good but my main course , an egg plant Parmesan, was served cool. After I sent it back to the kitchen, it took a long time to be served again, by which time my partners meal had been finished.
Sort of ruined the meal.
