Deliciously-different meal with a view of wooded outdoors. What can be better than that?
Really nice place, local neighborhood vibe with an upscale, posh ambience. Very classy but approachable. Been back several times, won't hesitate again!
Always special. This is one of the most civilized dining experiences in all of Westchester. Never disappoints.
felt rushed for Valentine's day early seating. food came out much too quickly.
Allowing for the fact that it was Valentines Day, we were very pleased with the food and wine pairings, but were a bit disappointed with the service. Definitely seemed that the front of the house was not communicating well with the kitchen. But our waiter was apologetic and gave us some extra wine, so all was good!
Sunday brunch was delightful. The food quality, quantity, and selection was wonderful: shrimp, salmon, crab legs, beef, lamb, breakfast foods, salads, vegetables, fruits, and desserts. Service was good and quick. So much fun.
The service was excellent. The food was delicious. We will definitely go back.
The food was great and the service was outstanding! I will go back again.
Excellent brunch! It is a very good place to celebrate a special occasion. There were many people celebrating their birthday there. The seafood selection was great. I recommend the salmon.
Excellent food and service
We were not rushed at all
This was “fine dining”
And well worth it
My wife and I were staying at the Kittle house for the weekend. We heard about this place and all the great reviews. If you ever have a chance to stay at the Kittle house, do it. The place is beautiful. As for the dinner, I had the shrimp and grits and my wife had the eggplant dish. We both had wine as well. The service was very good and attentive. The ambiance was nice as they had a gentleman playing the piano and singing some great songs!! Overall you will have a great time at the Kittle house!
Great food and service! Always terrific! Wonderful ambience!
We were seated promptly and were allowed time to ponder food and wine choices. The choices, including the daily specials, were excellent and diverse enough for the group with different dietary preferences. The food was well prepared and came timely. Desserts were worth saving some room for. All in all, a great place to meet as a small group and enjoy the evening.
Perfectly fine. Service was solid, the vegan mushroom soup was awesome.
We are always very pleased with our experience. It never disappoints.
Always a great place with a great atmosphere. This visit was without exception. We celebrated two Birthdays. Enjoyed the Osso Buco and Orecchiette with Lobster specials along with the Rainbow Trout. Wine, desserts and the grand finale of a serenade of Happy Birthday topped off the evening. Will be back for brunch soon.
Service remains a standout and so does the menu. The array of fish and steak pleased everyone in our party of four, which is no easy feat!
Everyone enjoyed their meal. The service was impeccable. Not intrusive but attentive. THe prosciutto with melon and dates was terrific. I had the pasta with lobster and mushrooms which was perfect. The lamb shank my husband had was perfect as was the guinea hen. They brought out a special dessert inscribed for the birthday guest. All in all a great celebratory meal.
One of the few local restaurants with a reasonable noise level so that you can have an intelligent conversation with your dinner companions. Food is great, good sized portions, excellent service. Always enjoy eating at The Kittle House.
Not worth a trip. We took advantage of HV Restaurant Week to check out the Kittle House a few months ago and decided that we would go back again, and we did. While the food is fine, it isn't that special, particularly at the prices that they charge. Portion sizes are generous, and the trout is recommended, but the duck breast, was a bit salty. Vegetables are well prepared.
Was just there for Sunday brunch. Service was a bit slow. Since food is at a serve-yourself buffet, you're only counting on waitstaff for beverages so this is tough to understand. Perhaps they were short-staffed when we were there? The dining room is pretty crowded, and you have to cross both the dining room and the reception area to get to the room where the brunch buffet is set up. It's a bit of an obstacle course. You have to dodge fellow diners, servers and the line of people waiting to be seated to get there and back. Fine if you are fit and have a decent sense of balance. A bit tough for elderly folks who are not as steady on their feet. This was the third time I've been there for brunch. The first time it was great. The second time it was very good. This time it was not worth returning for. Not a good trend. I'll give it some time before I go back. For what it costs, it should run more smoothly and service should be more attentive and efficient.
Sorry to write this after many good experiences but this was a very poor performance. To start, my wife and I got different versions of the menu. Then, we must have looked like wine lightweights (we are not as have a big cellar) as were directed to the summary wine list and had to ask and wait awhile for the master list and never saw a sommelier. Turned off and went by the glass. When our first glass was finished during appetizers then and the main course arrived, no one came by to ask for a refill and we had to flag down our waiter (who had switched mid meal without notice). When we asked for non-port dessert wine choices (figure a Wine Spectator top star would have good selections) waiter didn’t know, no sommelier came by and eventually they came to serve us the only (non port) sweet wine they had which we didn’t want as only wanted to know what was on offer. Then our bill comes and we were charged for five glasses of wine when we had only three. Spoke to manager on way out to give feedback (almost never do this) and felt like he was going though the motions. Noticed many regulars were getting tons of attention so guess that’s what it has become here. Great food might have taken the edge off but entree was very tough. Sadly, we won’t be back.
This is our 3rd time celebrating New Year’s Eve at the Kittle house. Unfortunately this time was not it’s best. The cocktail hour was the best part of the evening. Beautiful display of shrimp, crab and 3 types of caviar. A cheese and various cured meats were wonderful. Hors-d’oeuvres were passed around were also good. And that’s when the good ended and the average began.
One bar with 1 1/2 bartenders was not enough. We had to wait 20 minutes to get our first drink. They were pouring wines and champagne at the tables but we had to wait quite a while for them to serve us.
As far as the main buffet service, it was not up to their normal quality. All the sliced meats came without any sauces or gravies. I couldn’t even eat the turkey it was so dry.
The snapper had a champagne sauce, that the server had to scrape the bottom of the tray for and it barely soaked the spoon.
Speaking of spoons, the had an apple soup in a carafe, but when we asked for a spoon to eat with, it took them 15min to get us one.
Service was not great, I hope it’s just extra help, but the previous years, everything was 5 star.
I hope this was just a bad night , but I will not attend NYE at the Kittle house next year.
We were bitterly disappointed in this supposedly venerable establishment. The setting may be genteel but food & service leave much to be desired. Problems were apparent from the very start when we were offered a cocktail. There was no cocktail menu so we went straight for a wine from the restaurant’s extensive list. After a long while our bottle arrived, but was then placed out of view. Was it on ice? Maybe. Worse, repeated attempts to get our glasses refilled were ignored by too many for too long. (Numerous wait staff wander about, doing nothing, looking nowhere. Waving & calling bring no response.) My duck breast arrived medium as requested but was bone dry; little to no fat remained on it. Perhaps a misguided attempt to offer a low-fat version of a dish meant to be rich, but a waste of good meat in my view. Normally a plate-cleaner, I soon lost interest & left a third of it untouched. The shrimp & grits were also a let down. The grits were tasty but there was barely a schmear on the dish, leaving the grilled shrimp high & dry. Again, the kitchen missed the point. Dessert was an even sadder affair. The "chocolate pastry gift,” pudding wrapped in phyllo, was nice enough. But the honey almond cake was a disaster: a beige lump, dry, bitter & moistened only by a scoop of ice cream. Finding a large shred of plastic bag in the ice cream was the low point of the evening. We found it odd that pre-dinner drinks were included on the dessert menu. Had we seen this earlier, we might have ordered a cocktail. Instead, it came too late to be of any interest, another lost opportunity. (Among many other things, this restaurant might want to review how they print & present their offerings.) On a positive note, they were kind enough to take note of our special occasion & did not charge us for the dessert mishap. Also, our Cremant d'Alsace was delicious & the steward gracious. Nevertheless we will not be returning to Kittle House anytime soon.
Went there for lunch with my friends. The price fixe lunch was a good deal and the food was good. My friend recommended the butternut squash soup and the creme brûlée and they were just ok. I had the cheeseburger since the other choices were fish, eggplant parmigiana and a chick thigh salad. The cheeseburger was very good and served on a pretzel roll with bacon and was so thick I had to cut it up.
The negative was we were seated at a table in the corner near 2 windows and the radiators. There was a funny smell so we had to move our table. My friend said when she arrived there was a cat in the restaurant and we had seen one outside. Not sure if that caused the smell but if so they need to disinfect the place.
Consistently top quality fine dining and exceptional wine list for decades. The attention to preparation and service makes any occasion a better experience. The specials are innovative and not just a minor variation on an existing menu item. There is a wine list on the last few menu pages. Ignore it and ask for the wine list. The sommelier will be very helpful and the prices cover many ranges.
The smoked fish and the smoked meat appetizers are smoked/cured in- house and are top notch.
Don't pass up the Moscovy Duck. Almost impossible to find on a menu. It has the texture and mouth feel of a fillet mignon, but the taste of duck. This is totally different from any long island duck you have ever eaten.
This restaurant is a destination, not just a place to go because you happen to be nearby.
Always a good elegant spot for dining. My family from out of state love coming to their comfort food place.
Two nights before Christmas, there was plenty of staff on hand - a good thing. We had 6:30 dinner reservations and the entire meal felt rushed. I'm not sure if the table arrangements were changed to accommodate the maximum number of guests, but tables were practically on top of each other. A waiter and bus boy standing next to our table had a verbal confrontation. My husband noticed a waiter drain the last of a bottle of wine into a glass and swig it down at the service station just behind us. From start to finish, we were out of there in about 95 minutes - not very uplifting for the holiday weekend.
We came here a few days before Christmas for dinner and to stay the night. It was beautifully decorated. There was a lag time for checking in (they lost the reservation), but they were extremely courteous and took care of the problem. Dinner was amazing, though the waiter forgot to put our order in. However, they made up for it with free cocktails. The food was genuinely delicious. A lot of house made dishes and farm to table dishes. All staff was very courteous and we will be returning.
One of our favorite spots. Great atmosphere, terrific service and the Tap Room is a terrific value
A lovely holiday dinner in their Tap Room. Even though it was bustling, the service was great and the food was dependably delicious.
Sitting in the bar area is always my choice. Everyone was pleased with their meal. Varied menu options, especially for vegetarians, were available. The service was excellent.
We are local and my family love going out to Crabtree Kittle House for special occasions, for examples graduation and birthday dinner. The reserved table is always on time. All personnel in the restaurant work very well to each other. We enjoy their fresh foods which are from local regions. It is a great place to go with family and friends to enjoy a good time together.
Fantastic service, delicious food, great atmosphere. The staff, hosts, and chef all made our dinner event a special one to remember. I look forward to going back again and would highly recommend to others dine here.
I have been to this restaurant numerous times but never have I had a poor experience as I had the last time. The service was abominable. Lack of attention to detail, lack of response, just overall poor service. The meal was average at best. I was very disappointed. Based on prior experiences I might give it one more try. I think part of the problem was that they had a large party and did not have staff to cover both the party and the dining room.
Love it here!!! The food is delicious, and the dining room is lovely. When we go with the kids, we sit in the bar room so a little kid noise isn't noticeable. They're always super sweet with the kids!!
The entrees were not well prepared, especially the pasta dishes and the kitchen crew began cleaning with a pungent bleach we could smell in the dining room while eating our desserts. It was very disappointing.
Always wonderful ..food, service, ambiance.
Great evening. Really nice place. Superb service. Not over expensive
