Crabtree's Kittle House Ratings and Reviews
I have been to this restaurant numerous times but never have I had a poor experience as I had the last time. The service was abominable. Lack of attention to detail, lack of response, just overall poor service. The meal was average at best. I was very disappointed. Based on prior experiences I might give it one more try. I think part of the problem was that they had a large party and did not have staff to cover both the party and the dining room.
The pumpkin soup lacked appropriate flavor. The turkey was dry, it was thanksgiving. The stuffing was disappointing. The sweet potatoes were great. The broccoli was tough. The onions were undercooked. The mashed potatoes lacked flavor. No gravy was served. the pumpkin pie was great the pecan pie was good. The surroundings were positively magical. Very disappointing experience.
I will give them some slack because it was Thanksgiving and they were serving crowds of people. However, the service was poor and the food mediocre. We both had the turkey. The food was cold, the cranberry sauce was so watery it looked like juice and had an odd flavor. All the food was piled on top of each other so you had to dig through to find your side dishes. Our order was taken quickly and the food brought out in a timely manner. However, once they dropped the food in front of you no one ever came back to ask if everything is okay and if you wanted something else. My husband wanted a second soda and he was long done with his meal by the time we flagged someone done. The original waitress who took our order finally came over to ask how our desert was going! It was much more expensive than other restaurants in the area where we have had better turkey dinners. However, we were willing to pay more for better service which seems to be a chronic problem in restaurants on holidays. My theory did not prove true. We had mediocre food with the same lackluster service.
We had heard very good things about it, especially the breakfast. But it was a total disappointment. Our tablecloth was dirty, to begin with. The waitstaff was horrendous- wouldn't bring coffee or refill water. Not at all personable. Food was not good at all. Had family in from out of town and am disappointed this is where we chose to eat.
I love this place. We went for brunch which is delicious, but the service is outstanding, the waiters remember us, stop to say hi, ask us about our daughter and are very thoughtful. We went the first time for a benefit event - they donate part of the profits on Tuesdays with different benefits, and we loved it so much that we kept coming back.
our favorite place to dine for casual, date night, every day and special occasions. On this anniversary night, as always, the service was impeccable, the food was delicious, the wine amazing, and the evening special from a to z. This is our place to be. The attention to detail, the delicious and varied menu allows all our family members and guests (including our vegetarians) to order a special dish each and every time. highly recommend again and again.
Took advantage of Hudson Restaurant Week and made reservations for 4. Food was outstanding as was the wine. Service was good, but not on par with expectations: Took a long time to secure the wine from the cellar and the year was different than on the menu; did decant the bottle, but did not come by to pour wine when glasses were near empty. We will plan on dining there more frequently.
Waiter did not clean our crumbs from table
Music choice was Justin Bieber! Not appropriate for this setting.our Bloody Mary drinks were too spiced after we requested no spice. We could not drink it. Hardly came over to refill water glass. Not to pleasant today at all. Rushed our order even though no one was there at 11:30.
Food is reliably very good. It's not cutting edge and it's not fun in the manner of frozen cubes of whatever with a little marshmallow inside. It's consistently one of the best in the county, however. The wine list is extraordinary. There is no other way to describe it. Oh, did I forget that the wine list is extraordinarily affordable? Usually I do BYOB from my own rather fine cellar, but the couple with us were California winemakers and so I thought buying a wine was appropriate. Where else can you get a bottle of 1994 Chateau Domaine de Chevalier blanc, let alone at retail (if you could find it at retail!) There was a private party in the anteroom to the cellar, being attended by the head sommelier, and so when we requested a tour of the cellar, the proprietor himself took us down the back way, past the revelers' door, apologizing for the route. There was nothing to apologie for. It was a splendid evening.
Over-rated food (foie gras was not as impressive as one would hope at a venue of this stated caliber) and service was inattentive and slow, at best, and not well trained. At the same time, the host was borderline rude because we erroneously made two reservations for a party of two (perhaps upset about something else). Valet took forever on the outbound. I wanted to like the experience a lot more than I did, given how quaint the place appears. Felt amateurish.
Went for Hudson Valley Restauranr week. I was expecting relatively small portions for the special price but was blown away by the special menu. It was delicious and very plentiful! Kittlehouse is always a great place and the restaurant week specials were spectacular!
Great food but service was lacking. It has been 15-20 years since we've been to the Kittle House, a place we frequented in the 1990s until the food quality deteriorated. Several people told us that it has returned to excellence, and we decided to try it for lunch during Hudson Valley Restaurant Week, and we're glad we did as the food was terrific. However, the service was underwhelming, which was a disappointment (nobody asked us if we wanted drinks, no salt and pepper were on the table, which didn't bother us since we don't use them, and we needed to ask for bread). We are willing to excuse the service lapse on HVRW and will return due to the wonderful food. For entrees we both had lamb shank, and it was terrific. My lobster bisque was excellent, and my wife's salad was fresh and tasty. Our desserts, pumpkin cheesecake brulee and a chocolate torte of sorts were top notch.
This is a lovely restaurant, the food is outstanding and the service is perfect. We were there for a Sunday Brunch Buffet and there is no better place! Not only are the standard items (eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, french toast) exceptional, all of the more unusual items are fabulous too. In addition to breakfast items, they serve wonderful fish and meats and fantastic deserts. You cannot go wrong no matter what you choose. I have been here several times and for a variety of meals and I have never been disappointed. The restaurant also boasts an incredible wine menu with great choices for the occasional drinker as well as the true oenophile.
