Was just there for Sunday brunch. Service was a bit slow. Since food is at a serve-yourself buffet, you're only counting on waitstaff for beverages so this is tough to understand. Perhaps they were short-staffed when we were there? The dining room is pretty crowded, and you have to cross both the dining room and the reception area to get to the room where the brunch buffet is set up. It's a bit of an obstacle course. You have to dodge fellow diners, servers and the line of people waiting to be seated to get there and back. Fine if you are fit and have a decent sense of balance. A bit tough for elderly folks who are not as steady on their feet. This was the third time I've been there for brunch. The first time it was great. The second time it was very good. This time it was not worth returning for. Not a good trend. I'll give it some time before I go back. For what it costs, it should run more smoothly and service should be more attentive and efficient.

Sorry to write this after many good experiences but this was a very poor performance. To start, my wife and I got different versions of the menu. Then, we must have looked like wine lightweights (we are not as have a big cellar) as were directed to the summary wine list and had to ask and wait awhile for the master list and never saw a sommelier. Turned off and went by the glass. When our first glass was finished during appetizers then and the main course arrived, no one came by to ask for a refill and we had to flag down our waiter (who had switched mid meal without notice). When we asked for non-port dessert wine choices (figure a Wine Spectator top star would have good selections) waiter didn’t know, no sommelier came by and eventually they came to serve us the only (non port) sweet wine they had which we didn’t want as only wanted to know what was on offer. Then our bill comes and we were charged for five glasses of wine when we had only three. Spoke to manager on way out to give feedback (almost never do this) and felt like he was going though the motions. Noticed many regulars were getting tons of attention so guess that’s what it has become here. Great food might have taken the edge off but entree was very tough. Sadly, we won’t be back.

This is our 3rd time celebrating New Year’s Eve at the Kittle house. Unfortunately this time was not it’s best. The cocktail hour was the best part of the evening. Beautiful display of shrimp, crab and 3 types of caviar. A cheese and various cured meats were wonderful. Hors-d’oeuvres were passed around were also good. And that’s when the good ended and the average began.
One bar with 1 1/2 bartenders was not enough. We had to wait 20 minutes to get our first drink. They were pouring wines and champagne at the tables but we had to wait quite a while for them to serve us.
As far as the main buffet service, it was not up to their normal quality. All the sliced meats came without any sauces or gravies. I couldn’t even eat the turkey it was so dry.
The snapper had a champagne sauce, that the server had to scrape the bottom of the tray for and it barely soaked the spoon.
Speaking of spoons, the had an apple soup in a carafe, but when we asked for a spoon to eat with, it took them 15min to get us one.
Service was not great, I hope it’s just extra help, but the previous years, everything was 5 star.
I hope this was just a bad night , but I will not attend NYE at the Kittle house next year.

We were bitterly disappointed in this supposedly venerable establishment. The setting may be genteel but food & service leave much to be desired. Problems were apparent from the very start when we were offered a cocktail. There was no cocktail menu so we went straight for a wine from the restaurant’s extensive list. After a long while our bottle arrived, but was then placed out of view. Was it on ice? Maybe. Worse, repeated attempts to get our glasses refilled were ignored by too many for too long. (Numerous wait staff wander about, doing nothing, looking nowhere. Waving & calling bring no response.) My duck breast arrived medium as requested but was bone dry; little to no fat remained on it. Perhaps a misguided attempt to offer a low-fat version of a dish meant to be rich, but a waste of good meat in my view. Normally a plate-cleaner, I soon lost interest & left a third of it untouched. The shrimp & grits were also a let down. The grits were tasty but there was barely a schmear on the dish, leaving the grilled shrimp high & dry. Again, the kitchen missed the point. Dessert was an even sadder affair. The "chocolate pastry gift,” pudding wrapped in phyllo, was nice enough. But the honey almond cake was a disaster: a beige lump, dry, bitter & moistened only by a scoop of ice cream. Finding a large shred of plastic bag in the ice cream was the low point of the evening. We found it odd that pre-dinner drinks were included on the dessert menu. Had we seen this earlier, we might have ordered a cocktail. Instead, it came too late to be of any interest, another lost opportunity. (Among many other things, this restaurant might want to review how they print & present their offerings.) On a positive note, they were kind enough to take note of our special occasion & did not charge us for the dessert mishap. Also, our Cremant d'Alsace was delicious & the steward gracious. Nevertheless we will not be returning to Kittle House anytime soon.

Went there for lunch with my friends. The price fixe lunch was a good deal and the food was good. My friend recommended the butternut squash soup and the creme brûlée and they were just ok. I had the cheeseburger since the other choices were fish, eggplant parmigiana and a chick thigh salad. The cheeseburger was very good and served on a pretzel roll with bacon and was so thick I had to cut it up.

The negative was we were seated at a table in the corner near 2 windows and the radiators. There was a funny smell so we had to move our table. My friend said when she arrived there was a cat in the restaurant and we had seen one outside. Not sure if that caused the smell but if so they need to disinfect the place.

Consistently top quality fine dining and exceptional wine list for decades. The attention to preparation and service makes any occasion a better experience. The specials are innovative and not just a minor variation on an existing menu item. There is a wine list on the last few menu pages. Ignore it and ask for the wine list. The sommelier will be very helpful and the prices cover many ranges.

The smoked fish and the smoked meat appetizers are smoked/cured in- house and are top notch.

Don't pass up the Moscovy Duck. Almost impossible to find on a menu. It has the texture and mouth feel of a fillet mignon, but the taste of duck. This is totally different from any long island duck you have ever eaten.

This restaurant is a destination, not just a place to go because you happen to be nearby.

Two nights before Christmas, there was plenty of staff on hand - a good thing. We had 6:30 dinner reservations and the entire meal felt rushed. I'm not sure if the table arrangements were changed to accommodate the maximum number of guests, but tables were practically on top of each other. A waiter and bus boy standing next to our table had a verbal confrontation. My husband noticed a waiter drain the last of a bottle of wine into a glass and swig it down at the service station just behind us. From start to finish, we were out of there in about 95 minutes - not very uplifting for the holiday weekend.

We came here a few days before Christmas for dinner and to stay the night. It was beautifully decorated. There was a lag time for checking in (they lost the reservation), but they were extremely courteous and took care of the problem. Dinner was amazing, though the waiter forgot to put our order in. However, they made up for it with free cocktails. The food was genuinely delicious. A lot of house made dishes and farm to table dishes. All staff was very courteous and we will be returning.

We are local and my family love going out to Crabtree Kittle House for special occasions, for examples graduation and birthday dinner. The reserved table is always on time. All personnel in the restaurant work very well to each other. We enjoy their fresh foods which are from local regions. It is a great place to go with family and friends to enjoy a good time together.

I have been to this restaurant numerous times but never have I had a poor experience as I had the last time. The service was abominable. Lack of attention to detail, lack of response, just overall poor service. The meal was average at best. I was very disappointed. Based on prior experiences I might give it one more try. I think part of the problem was that they had a large party and did not have staff to cover both the party and the dining room.

The pumpkin soup lacked appropriate flavor. The turkey was dry, it was thanksgiving. The stuffing was disappointing. The sweet potatoes were great. The broccoli was tough. The onions were undercooked. The mashed potatoes lacked flavor. No gravy was served. the pumpkin pie was great the pecan pie was good. The surroundings were positively magical. Very disappointing experience.

I will give them some slack because it was Thanksgiving and they were serving crowds of people. However, the service was poor and the food mediocre. We both had the turkey. The food was cold, the cranberry sauce was so watery it looked like juice and had an odd flavor. All the food was piled on top of each other so you had to dig through to find your side dishes. Our order was taken quickly and the food brought out in a timely manner. However, once they dropped the food in front of you no one ever came back to ask if everything is okay and if you wanted something else. My husband wanted a second soda and he was long done with his meal by the time we flagged someone done. The original waitress who took our order finally came over to ask how our desert was going! It was much more expensive than other restaurants in the area where we have had better turkey dinners. However, we were willing to pay more for better service which seems to be a chronic problem in restaurants on holidays. My theory did not prove true. We had mediocre food with the same lackluster service.

I love this place. We went for brunch which is delicious, but the service is outstanding, the waiters remember us, stop to say hi, ask us about our daughter and are very thoughtful. We went the first time for a benefit event - they donate part of the profits on Tuesdays with different benefits, and we loved it so much that we kept coming back.

Took advantage of Hudson Restaurant Week and made reservations for 4. Food was outstanding as was the wine. Service was good, but not on par with expectations: Took a long time to secure the wine from the cellar and the year was different than on the menu; did decant the bottle, but did not come by to pour wine when glasses were near empty. We will plan on dining there more frequently.

Food is reliably very good. It's not cutting edge and it's not fun in the manner of frozen cubes of whatever with a little marshmallow inside. It's consistently one of the best in the county, however. The wine list is extraordinary. There is no other way to describe it. Oh, did I forget that the wine list is extraordinarily affordable? Usually I do BYOB from my own rather fine cellar, but the couple with us were California winemakers and so I thought buying a wine was appropriate. Where else can you get a bottle of 1994 Chateau Domaine de Chevalier blanc, let alone at retail (if you could find it at retail!) There was a private party in the anteroom to the cellar, being attended by the head sommelier, and so when we requested a tour of the cellar, the proprietor himself took us down the back way, past the revelers' door, apologizing for the route. There was nothing to apologie for. It was a splendid evening.

Over-rated food (foie gras was not as impressive as one would hope at a venue of this stated caliber) and service was inattentive and slow, at best, and not well trained. At the same time, the host was borderline rude because we erroneously made two reservations for a party of two (perhaps upset about something else). Valet took forever on the outbound. I wanted to like the experience a lot more than I did, given how quaint the place appears. Felt amateurish.
