Crab Catcher Ratings and Reviews
Some of the food was good. My vegetables were almost cold. My soup, while delicious, was lukewarm when served. I think the restaurant is overpriced! About 8 ounces of crab soup was $16! Veggies 12, etc. Glad to see choices for gluten free but bread would have been nice too!
Beautiful view from our table. I noted it was our one year anniversary and we would appreciate a table on the patio when I booked. With a short wait we were seated at an amazing table. So kind of them to make it happen. Friendly and quick service. Not pushy quick but well timed quick. Thanks to Misty for being a delightful server. We loved the crab cake, clam chowder and the muscles fettuccine. No one warned me that I ordered the world's most amazing Crème Brûlée. If I wasn't a lady I would have liked the dish clean. Also loved the berry mojito and tropical fizz cocktails. Thank you Crab Catcher for a memorable anniversary.
All was good, but we wish our waiter could move and deliver already prepped food a bit faster. We was seating and waiting for our appetizers to be added to our table for a little while even we saw them already on the corner table delivered by a kitchen staff
Great service, good food and spectacular view! No complaints except the restaurant should provide salted butter for bread. Tasteless with unsalted. When I go out to a nice place, I cheat on my diet. Butter is a cheat for me.
Other than that minuscule annoyance, a nice experience.
We were lucky to get a table at one of the few large windows overlooking the bay. This made the evening for us. The food is very good but with a bill of about $190 for a party of four (and only one person had only one drink) it is definitely an extravagance. Still, there are few places in the city where you can dine and view like at this restaurant.
We went with the family for a special dinner & the price for 1 Entrée, 2 Apps, & 1 Salad [We all shared] with no drinks was over $200!! The King Crab we got was the size of a snow crab and the 1.5 pounds we got looked a little over 1/4 pound.. The view is great but the pricing is Crazy Expensive and we all went home hungry!!
We visited Crab Catcher the first time when our kids were younger. Now that they are both married, we all visit it whenever we are in the San Diego area. They now bring their families. My husband and I were in California last week with friends. We brought them to Crab Catchers for their first time. The dinner was fabulous, especially the Fire Shrimp.
We ate at Crab Catcher last night for my husbands birthday. We have eaten there 2 or 3 times before and were very happy. We made reservations, waited to be seated, had a wonderful table and service.
We ordered Whole Main Lobster and Filet Mignon. We started with salads, they were ok, we also ordered brussel sprouts and cauliflower for the table, it was just ok. My lobster was cold and by the time I got to the best part, the tail, it was chewy. My husbands filet was suppose to be butterflied medium well and it was WELL and tough, he said "Shoe Leather" and the garlic mashed potatoes tasted like they came from a box. Even the bread was dry. It was not an inexpensive meal!
We were treated good but the food was horrible.....
Very good food and an awesome view. The only thing that was off putting was the 4% 'Cost of Doing Business' tax that they add to the check. Also, we went on a Thursday, and it was advertised that martinis were $6. When the bill came, however, they were $15!! Not cool, Crab Catcher. Not cool at all.
Food was good, our waitress was nice, however when we were there this past Saturday they were so busy that it literally took almost 1 hour for us to get food (we on had main entrees only, and I watched my phone and I think they came with it 55 minutes after our order was taken). They apologized several times (1st apology was 30 minutes after the order was taken), but nothing to help win us over as you might see at most restaurants like: complimentary dessert, a small appetizer to tide us over. Nope, just 1 hour of sitting there with nothing. So, we felt like though the food was good, we wasted a ton of time waiting and our evening disappeared.
The restaurant just could not get things right. My husband has a severe tomato allergy. After advising the staff it was ignored and his crab cake came out plated with a cherry tomato and corn underneath it. It took two more tries and it finally was served without the cherry tomato but also without the sauce which does not have tomato in it rather red bell pepper. No compensation was given for this or the fact that it took over an hour for the crab cake to come out of the kitchen without a tomato under it. If you have any kind of a food allergy I would not eat here. The chef also apparently Yelled at our server.
Beware of Price Gouging--This restaurant adds a 4% surcharge to each meal (I wish they would just be honest with diners and raise their menu prices) and then, if you are using a Groupon coupon, adds another automatic 15% tip on the full pre-coupon amount, including their 4% (which makes the 15% not really a gratuity). I resent that they have taken away all accountability for quality of service from the waiter, and they are perpetrating a trend to cover their own costs by surcharges which will only get steeper in the future. This is a dangerous trend taking us toward European restaurant pricing which led to the "fixed price" concept because unwitting diners were hit with bread charges, water charges, service, etc. so the diner had no idea what the final tab would become. Let's stop this trend in its path by staying away from all restaurants doing this. The manager said "all La Jolla restaurants are doing this" and then I walked to the restaurant right next door which was not doing it. Don't believe their lies.
