Crab Catcher Ratings and Reviews
The Crab Catcher is a wonderful place for a date, whether it's a first date or a night out away from the family.
Food is delicious, and the view is always impeccable. If a nice quiet evening with the one you love is what
you want, with awesome food - The Crab Catcher is a great place.
We visited this restaurant because we had a Groupon. We have been to La Jolla many times, but if I did not have the Groupon, I don't know that I would have seen it. It is located on a lower level, which gives it the outstanding views of the cove. We sat outside (there is an outside and inside area) with a heater and were perfectly comfortable. The food is pricey, so be prepared. It was very good and the service was wonderful.
Excellent excellent every thing was perfect. We asked for and received a table with a view for my friends 91 birthday and she was thrilled. Our server heidi was above and beyond very attentive and charming. great job.the alaskian halibut was cooked to perfection.
We had a wonderful dinner on our first night in San Diego! We dined in their outdoor area and had front table to waterfront. Hostess welcomed us graciously as did our server! We had scallops with lobster risotto- very rich but delish and a nice size serving. Hubby had ahi tuna- same! Bread also warm and tasty! We had a groupon so our meal was reasonable priced. Actually all items were priced fairly for this caliber of restaurant , even without the groupon. We're concerned by some previous reviews, but we truly enjoyed our dining experience!
We gave the waiter our complete order and asked him not to rush us.Well we sat and sat and he did not ask us if we wanted another drink we had to flag him down. The manager came by and he said he would find out what the back up was. The waiter did apologize and reminded me that I said we did not want to be rushed.I guess he did not understand that we did not
want to be forgotten.
All was well but their portions are very small. My main course had 3 very average scallops, if the sauce was to-die-for maybe maybe maybe that works. It was barely average. Boring for sure. My wife's ahi was great. My dinner was a bust. You go for the view, forget about the food end.
For the high price of the entrees, we were disappointed in the small serving of fish that we were served, each of us having ordered a different entree. No vegetable sides were included as a chef choice of presentation of the perfect balanced meal, each extra costing about $10.00. Conclusion for me is that it is overpriced in an area surrounded by several high-end restaurants which I believe give a better experience, such as: Eddie V, Roppongi, La Valencia, Manhattan.
This was our second visit to Crab Catcher and I must say the first was outstanding and this was "good". The king crab was very good, the filet mignon was undercooked and had to be returned. They offer several bottles of wine for 1/2 price on Friday which really helps wth the final bill.
Had a wonderful time at the Crab Catcher!!! Management was very accommodating when I requested an ocean view and sat us quickly. This is a restaurant with a vintage look and fits right in with the La Jolla feel. The food is excellent and the service was great from the bar, to the table. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic atmosphere with an incredible view, I strongly recommend the Crab Catcher. Cheers!!!!
We went to Crab Catcher with a Groupon on Saturday night. I also noted that it was our 2-year anniversary when making the reservation. We got what seemed like the best view in the entire restaurant with a gorgeous view of the ocean. The waiter even came over and wished us happy anniversary. The martinis were great and the food was even better. We shared the crab cake appetizer (awesome) and also had the Halibut and Filet. While it is true that the portions are small, the food is truly amazing. Great for special occasions for sure! At the end of dinner, our waiter also presented us with complimentary macadamia nut dessert...wow. Thanks for a memorable evening Crab Catcher! We'll definitely be back!
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Been here many times and it just gets better. The food is beautiful and mouth watering. The staff are just marvelous and if you are lucky enough to get Spring as your waitress (as we have the last two times we have been)you will enjoy your visit even more!
Nice restaurant, the entrance was a little hard to find, it felt like we were going in the back of the restaurant. The outdoor seating was nice, heating lamps kept me warm during our dinner. The wait staff was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable of menu selection and choices, but the hostess neglected to give us a restaurant week menu.
Overall great experience, delicious food. Will return.
It was the worst meal I've ever had. The appetizer was like a taste of salad on the spoon and my entree was like a bite. I walked out so hungry and came home and cook. I never paid for so much and receive so little.. I should had pay $10 mor to eat at Ruth's Chris and got a complete meal
The food was bland and uninspired. Totally not worth the La Jolla prices. We tried the mussels, dozen oysters, beet salad, crab cake and the Sea Bass entree. Everything that came out was not good. The entree portion of fish was tiny and over-cooked. Oysters tasted like they were shucked yesterday. Mussels we've had better at every other restaurant we've been too. Luckily we had a gift certificate. The only good thing was the service.
We had the "restaurant week menu", in my opinion, the menu was not special and was conceived with the economic aspect in mind. Out of three starters one was a soup and the other was a green salad with a couple of beetroots. I had the tuna capriccio, the carpaccio was fresh, and with a drop of olive oil, it was ok... but something was missing, I would personally would have recommended sesame oil and a hint of rosa pepper. there was an interesting small salad on top of the carpaccio, unfortunately the overpowering taste of some coriander young leaves killed everything. The main course was well presented, but the taste of the nice peace of tuna was killed by a coat of black pepper and again coriander leaves... A shame for this nice venue.
I had never been here before. I'm so glad a Groupon was offered, or I never would have known about this restaurant (I'm from the East County). My husband and I ended up going here for a special treat. We were able to secure a window seat on the patio-I was afraid it would be cold but we were right under a patio heater. I had a shrimp cocktail, with 5 large shrimp and horseradish. My husband had the clam chowder. I then had the short rib over jalepeno polenta (oh yeah) and my husband had the seared Ahi. We each enjoyed an order of the brussel sprouts. I had a martini and my husband had a beer. The cost for us after our Groupon was 35.00 plus tip, so for about 60.00 we really had a nice night out.
Food was good but I feel overpriced. Also, their polenta with cheese, bacon and jalapeños was extremely spicy and the server should make customer aware of just how spicy it is. Server was not attentive. She came to the table, served us and was gone in a flash. I usually tip 20% but could not justify that for the service received. I think there re lots of other restaurants with better food and better value.
