CQ's Ratings and Reviews
We typically love CQs and make an effort on each trip to fit in at least one visit. We had reservations and were seated promptly, but at a table literally in the dark. No light for reading the menu. We used our cell phone flash lights. We even requested more lighting and a small wall light was turned on, but it was not sufficient. Difficult atmosphere.
Super slow service, 43 minutes from the time we were seated to bread service. Not sure what was going on with the service, it’s never been so slow or cranky. The restaurant wasn’t near capacity, many empty tables. The bread was served hastily as if she didn’t want to be there, not her usual attitude.
I think we were forgotten because we were sitting in the dark where we couldn’t see and no one could see our table. It was really a terrible experience as far as atmosphere. Super slow, waters ran empty, turtle pace service tonight.
The food was good as usual, but the super slow service and lack of even adequate lighting was horrid.
Our meal lasted more than 2 hours most of which was spent waiting for order to be taken or food service.
Mediocre service and food. We normally really like this place but salmon was really fishy and snapper was bland and almost raw . Butternut bisque was outstanding. Waitress tried to guess what she thought you should say rather than asking how you liked the food or allowing you t say anything. If this was our only experience we would never go back.
Food was okay but the service was very poor, bordering on inattentive. An entree that was served was wrong and in order not to have to wait longer and have one of our party eat alone , we traded and as a result neither of us ate what we wanted. We had BOGO coupons so they automatically added a full gratuity. When I mentioned that I didn’t think it was right to do that, the waitress (who didn’t seem too concerned about her mistake) did change the bill. In the end we left a smaller gratuity. There are far better dining experiences on Hilton Head—neither our friends or us will be returning.
CQ's has been around for decades and has remained consistently good. The current management is doing a great job, and the food and service are excellent. Because CQ's has been around so long, I feel it somehow flies under the radar because of the myriad of the newer fine-dining places, BUT it shouldn't. It's still one of the favorites of local discriminating patrons, and of frequent Hilton Head visitors like us, who always enjoy returning. We particularly like the multiple fish options, and the steaks and chops are always great too. Not to mention the personal favorite dessert Key Lime Pie. It's one of the few cozy, romantic spots whose food rates up there with the wonderful ambience ----- white tablecloths, low light, candles on the table, and a great bottle of wine.....perfect! We were there last month, we were there two nights ago, and we will return with another couple this upcoming weekend....can't wait.
This was our first time to CQ's so we didn't know what to expect. What a wonderful old place. Loved reading about the history of it. Loved the setup of little areas of dining space. Our waitress was friendly and wonderful. And our filet mignon comes close to those we've had at the best steakhouses. Will be back to try some other things.
The scallop special served wtih julienned vegetables and in a butternut squash sauce or puree, which I understand they have frequently, was outstanding. So was the Sheepshead Fish special with a beurre blanc sauce. The Creme Brulee was pretty standard if you like Creme Brulee.
Its an expensive place but worth it for a special meal or night out. Not good for every day dining unless you have a very generous budget or no budget at all.
I really enjoyed this restaurant. I booked it based on the reviews, but I thought it was even better than expected! The atmosphere is fantastic, you feel as if you are in an old house. It's cozy but the tables are separated enough to have a private conversation. It was nicely decorated for the holidays with a gigantic Christmas tree. We were pleased with the food and drinks. The service was okay, as usual, slow in "low country" but I think that's a common thing down in SC. Book this restaurant, you will not be disappointed.
We visited here on New Year's weekend on Friday. I made a 515 reservation so we could use their early bird menu(had to be seated between 5 and 530) which was 3 courses for 27 to 29 dollars, a good value for Hilton Head Harbour Town area. We arrived a bit early and were promptly seated with menus and water. It took a few minutes for a waitress to appear and ask for drink orders. When she returned we had to ask for the early bird menu as by now we had perused menus given us and no early bird. We heard two other couples ask also. I feel if you have an early bird special ask if people want that menu. I felt they were hoping you didn't know and would not ask. Other than that the food was delicious, well prepared and served. The service was good and our waitress was very friendly. The building is unique and provides a lovely atmosphere.
CQ's was open for Christmas 2017 dinner and it was excellent. They had a special Christmas week menu, but it didn't really appear that much different than their everyday menu. My wife had the Scallops and she said they were prepared perfectly. I had the Short Rib Wellington which was also excellent. The service was 1st class. Would definitely go again the next time we visit Hilton Head Island.
As always CQ's hits the mark! We have been coming to HHI since 1978 and now are permanent Sea Pines residents. As long as I can remember CQ's was always on the top of our list. So many wonderful family dining memories! Our recent Christmas Eve dinner was wonderful. She Crab soup, Caesar salad and the crabmeat stuffed flounder were wonderful. Great wine list and a creme brulee! Our waitress Jules was exceptional as well. You can ALWAYS count on a wonderful dining experience!
