We had a wonderful time catching up with our friends. Our waitress was very attentive and made several suggestions which we followed and loved them all.

This place is a joke! They boast a wine list of 2000 wines, but try to order one. We have been coming here for 14 years and have never been able to get our first choice of wine. On this visit, our first choice was a bottle that was also available by the glass. Our server said she couldn’t sell us a bottle, because they didn’t have enough, and had to save it for single glass servings. What? Why is it on the bottle menu then? Also if you are selling this by the glass I would assume that you have many bottles in stock. So we continued our selection process. And on the 5th try we finally got a bottle. Every time we chose a bottle, the server had to go look for it, while we had to wait for her to come back, only to tell us it was out of stock. Each time she suggested another wine at a much higher price. Had she offered us her selection at the price of our preferred choice, we would have taken it. The entire wine selection process from our initial request to actually getting the bottle took 40 minutes. Absolutely ridiculous! They don’t know what they have in stock, and can’t find what they do have in a timely manner. I asked our server if they use a computer to track the inventory and locations and she said the owner doesn’t do that because it is too difficult. The owner here is obviously clueless. They filed for Chapter 11 earlier this year, and that does not surprise me. The quality of the food has suffered too. They are probably trying to save money to pay the creditors. My prediction is that they will close down soon. What was once one of our favorites is now a place we will never return too. Stay away, you will only be disappointed.

Some friends wanted to try the"famous" chopped salad so we went for lunch. Delicious as always and good to know that you can get chicken instead of the smoked salmon in case (like one of my friends) you don't care for it.

Good food at an Old Town Scottsdale favorite! The atmosphere was a bit smoky from the kitchen and the place was lively considering we arrived as soon as they opened. Great service. Solid 4 stars.

We are from San Diego, but always make a point to visit your restaurant every time we are in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. It is not only one of our favorite restaurants in Phoenix, it is one of our favorites, period.

Our server was a doll; very personable and professional. She made us feel very relaxed and welcome.

Sorry I was not impressed. Chop salad was wonderful - if you go be sure to get the chop salad that they mix at the table. The signature mushroom dish was a bust. Total lack of flavor - blah - I kept adding salt and it did not improve the flavor. I don’t recommend going here - not sure what all the hype is about. DISAPPOINTED!!!

We had heard great comments about this restaurant over the years. Not sure what the buzz was all about though. It seemed like it's in need of updating, fresh ideas & management...

We used to love this place but our most recent experience wasn't great. We made a reservation but I felt like they wished we didn't show up. It was a later reservation but clearly during their serving hours. We felt almost unwelcome. The food was not as good as last time either. Worst of all it seemed like the ventilation system wasn't working so we smelled of cooking smoke and grease after we left.

I love Cowboy Ciao and would have loved to have eaten there that night. When we arrived for reservation time we arrived to a note on the door of a dark restaurant with a sign saying closed due to a water heater issue :(

Love the Stetson salad! Great location, great service. After dinner we always walk along the canal (on both sides) to take in some of the beautiful scenery and to get the Old Town vibe.

This place is amazing. I want to fill a bathtub with their Stetson Chopped salad and eat my way out of it. The short rib dinner was delicious. Our waitress was super nice and gave us complimentary shots because my friend and I were celebrating new jobs. 10/10 would recommend.

After a fine meal we went to Kazmire's to spend the evening listening to jazz and enjoyed another glass of wine. I owned a wine cafe on 5th avenue and can endorse Cowboy Ciao's wine selection.

For this price (and reputation) I expected really top notch execution and instead of got "good, not great" food and service.

Started off with the brisket because... well... brisket. 3 slices totally, all of them cut length-wise with the grain and the first two were dry/reheated and the last piece was excellent. All the pieces were relatively tough, not "forkable" and requiring a knife to get through. The taste of the sauce and accents with pickles were _great_ though.

Dinner was pretty spot on (swordfish and filet). Again, not amazing, just done well.

Desert was their pinnacle dish (bread pudding) and this was a solid 4/5... an odd combination of vanilla/chocolate cake with chocolate sauce mixed with a scoop of strawberry sorbet... I don't think those flavors complimented each other at all, but both were very good so, that's cool.

Server was too casual for my liking; not overly friendly, felt like he was just getting hours.

For a $175 dinner for 2, not worth it and wouldn't go back, but had an OK time.

Get there early if you want the noise level to be "reasonable". Later, it gets loud. Service is fantastic, staff recs are spot on. Good food, obviously get the signature salad, out of this world!
Very good, consistent, and always enjoyable. Went for our anniversary, because my better half loves the salad!

I've been to this restaurant before even though I don't live in the area. They called me the morning of to confirm my reservation and acknowledged that I had made a reservation for a birthday. Long story short, the waiter was extremely rude and gave off a judgmental air. There was no mention of a birthday, we weren't even asked if we wanted to PURCHASE a dessert. We asked the hostess if they did anything special for birthdays and her response was "not generally", although there are photos of desserts with a candle on their Yelp page. Very disappointing experience.

Loved everything about our experience as we frequent this restaurant frequently. I was just stunned as to how early the restaurant closes. It was a Friday night & we closed the place down at 10:30p. We were literally the last two customers in the place at 10:30p.

Such a shame that a quality restaurant is not opened later. What if we took in a show or a ballgame downtown and want a quality bite to eat on our way home? Shameful 😞

Always a great meal and great service! We tried the smaller plates on this visit, with shared Stetson salads. The small plates were richer than we expected, but delicious. Next time, for a lighter meal, we would each get a Stetson salad and share maybe just the small mushroom dish or the wild boar meatballs. Both have great flavor, but come in rich sauces. For a larger appetite, the pastrami style short rib is a favorite.

This was my third occasion at Cowboy Ciao. The first time, Valentine's Day, although crowded, everything was impressive: food, service, and menu options. The second time, the menu seemed limited and prices were expensive. However, the server was attentive, atmosphere quiet, and the price seemed a trade-off. We definitely struggle with most of the restaurants being categorized as "energetic." In other words - loud and noisy. On this third occasion, my husband ordered a pork chop and it was overcooked. I ordered a steak and it was not the best cut. It had a lot of fat and was not very tender. This meal did not warrant the price. Also, the restaurant seems a little worn. Mainly, my husband and I make it a point to support locally-owned, long-standing restaurants. Next time, our visit will be reserved for a special occasion due to the price. Hopefully, there will be an improvement with the next meal.

Haven't been in years so nice to return. Chopped salad is a must and perfect size to share for 2. Short ribs were stringy and dry but sides were good. First time having the swordfish and it was excellent. Wine list isn't impressive because there's no way to know what you're getting other than price. No need to have it that way.
