The Stenton chopped salad everyone raves about is average. The cheese board had crumbled blue cheese on it??? The mushroom dish lacked salt and just seemed like an absorbent amount of sauce with nothing to add to it. Nothing was worth the price.
The food is absolutely amazing here!! The Stetson Chop salad is hands down one of the greatest items.
Nice place - The chopped salad is always good. The wild boar chop was great - loved the potato salad. They overcooked one of the steaks, but overall a nice dinner
This was our fourth trip to Cowboy Ciao. We have had three good meals there previously. Last trip was 2 years ago. We had a family dinner for 4 there for our vacation, and the food was disappointing this time. It was really nothing very special, which surprised us. The desserts were especially poor this time. The bread pudding was dry and the ice cream not as good as we remembered.
One of the best meals I've had in sometime! Great wine, excellent food. Can't ask for more.
Great time. Food and service was outstanding
Amazing food- chopped salad & short rib were amazing!
We all enjoyed everything we ordered, from appetizers to desserts. It’s a little noisy there and sometimes a little hard to visit but all in all a great experience.
The food was good but the problem was the noise level. My husband and I couldn't even have a conversation. When I asked the waitress about the noise level she said it was that way all over the restaurant. we were seated by a large party who she told us would be leaving because they were on dessert. However, they were there the entire time which made our meal and conversation not fun. I didn't asked to be moved specifically, and wish I had been more direct because she didn't get our concern. We were in and out of there very quickly . If I recommended I would really caution about the noise. It was 8:15 pm so we were hoping for a more sedate crowd on a Wednesday night The noise level options don't really reflect my feelings it was loud and irritating not Energetic. But I guess that is the politically correct world we live in.
Always a favorite stop during our annual spring training week. Thank you for always serving us a wonderful meal with outstanding service!
We didn't get it at all. All the food they recommend was not good at all. Very strange flavors in the short ribs and the potatoes that came with it. We weren't even sure they were potatoes. The Brussel Sprouts were not cooked crispy or with any good flavor like most restaurants prepare them today. Tasted more like the nasty boiled Brussel sprouts my mom made me eat as a kid. Chop salad is what they rave about and we didn't get that either. It was not bad, but definitely not worth $15 for the small portion that we got. I think they were trying to be unique by putting smoked salmon in the chopped salad. I just found that to be a strange thing to put in a chop salad, as well. Mostly the salad was made up of corn. I did enjoy the crispness the pumpkin seeds added , but that was about it. One positive, the scallops. They were very good. The servers and the atmosphere in general is just not enjoyable. I don't consider this a hot spot. It's not trendy or fit for foodies. Not a place I would recommend when you're on vacation, as we were.
We were here from out of town on spring break. I have been here before about 10 years ago during a medical meeting and found it was very good and memorable. So when we came back into town, I wanted to take my family there. We were IMMENSELY disappointed. The waitress acted like she was extremely bored or disgusted that we were sitting in her area. She barely made eye contact and never smiled. We wanted to get up and walk out after she took our drink order. The prices had gone up considerably since I was last there, seeing that all the entrees were over $30. The menus were so old and grungy looking, we didn’t even want to touch them. The whole restaurant looked run down. What a disappointment! We would NOT recommend this place to anyone!
When is this place not amazing
We have been there for lunch several times. Food was excellent, service first rate, and the room was reasonably quiet. This was our first time for dinner. Food was excellent, service no where near as good, and the room was so loud and noisy that conversation was almost impossible. I would definitely recommend for lunch, but NEVER again for dinner.
Great experience as usual. Our server, Ray, was awesome. A must get every time-the Stetson Chopped Salad
I have only 3 words - STETSON CHOPPED SALAD!. Don't play around, order this, and whatever else on the great chef driven menu.
Great food amazing service. The wine list was large but wasn’t stocked! But, it didn’t ruin our night!
We came for dinner. The food was absolutely amazing. Their Chop Salad is a must order. My husband and I shared it. The Mushroom polenta dish was also delicious. Would highly recommend the Short Rib entree too. The service was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and so pleasant. Honestly, we have come to this restaurant once before while in Scottsdale for Spring Training a couple years ago and decided to come back again because it was so good before. We now will make sure we come back very year because we know we will not be disappointed.
Been going there for years. They never disappoint. There Stetson chopped salad is a must.
I had the filet and it was perfect. The gentlemen I was with both ordered the boar chops and both said it was the toughest meat they'd ever eaten. Spices and taste was fine, but would not order that again.
Wonderful meal. No matter what you order, it will be well worth it.
Excellent service and food. The tomahawk chop was superb. Save room for Cereal Killer dessert!
This is my 3rd year bringing my daughter for her birthday dinner during Giants Spring Training...it is just perfect!!! We will be back next year for her 14th! Thank you all for always putting on a special birthday!
We were put in the back room, no atmosphere, terrible lighting. The food was not as good as previous visits. Our entrees were served not hot.
Service was so-so, the waitress seemed disturbed that we asked for separate checks (two couples).
We eat here once in a while. It's a go-to spot for us, as we LOVE their chopped salad. Their other food is also very good. It's a cute restaurant in downtown Scottsdale. It is very noisy, though, as the conversation reverberates throughout. I like the southwest/western theme. The only reason I put just good for ambience is because it is so noisy. The waitstaff is very attentive, though, and we were not ignored. We did have to wait for about 10 minutes, even with a reservation, as a prior couple had been there a long time unexpectedly. Of course we got the chopped salad, which is amazing! We also had the buffalo carpaccio and the scallops. All were very good. I would always recommend this restaurant to out-of-towners, because of the western style atmosphere and food.
Good tourist spot although it is very noisy. Kit hen overcooked my steak but our server was very good about replacing it.
This fun, active establishment was our favorite in Scottsdale. Their special salad is outstanding.
Service and food were great. Noise level was off the charts.
A favorite but haven't been for a while. Went for lunch. Chopped salad is always good and would have been enough but had to have the steak sandwich - best sandwich ever!
Really enjoyed this restaurant.
The food was very good but our server really pushed this place over the top.
She was just the right amount of friendly, suggestive and fun.
A def stop while dining in old towne
Very noisy. Difficult to have a conversation. I won't be going back.
Don’t split the chop salad... you need an entire one to yourself!!! Best part of the meal.
Love the food here—but service has declined over the years. Hoping it improves
Purchased a gift card....but it was a “gift certificate”....which will have to be recreated if total amount is not used. I would have preferred to give my gift as a “gift card” for ease of use.
Love the Stetson salad! Great service, unique food. Brought teenage boys and they loved the steak dish, truffle Mac, and poke. Great experience!
Was not as attentive - exceptionally loud - food was good, service was ok.
We enjoyed our dinners - they were excellent and nice service sizes. The waitress, however, was not the best. Our friend said he wanted to have a Chardonnay, and she brought him one even though he had not selected from the list yet. It was not very good, but he did not ask her to take it back. Ordering a bottle of wine was a similar experience. Her recommendation was not a good one and we were disappointed in it. I looked it up later, it was a $15 bottle and we paid in the $40+ range. I have been to Cowboy Ciao’s over the years and always have enjoyed it. The service this time was poor though.
Had not been here in a long time. Dined here for Valentines Day. Service was excellent. Food was great. I will definitely be back
I was there twice in two days! The first experience was great, the second was a bit below average. The hostess on the 2nd night could use some customer service training. I made a reservation for 2, but it was supposed to be 3. When we checked as 3, she was visibly annoyed, but the restaurant was half empty. I asked her if it was an issue and she said "I need to make sure we have servers"? Confusing. So you have a server for 2 people but not 3? Anyway, the food was great, service was a bit slow but the server was very nice. I'd go again but maybe skip Tuesday's.
There are two wings to the restaurant. The right side with the curved windows has better ambiance. Food is FANTASTIC -- a gastronomer's and wine-lover's delight. Our party shared a smoked salmon cobb salad, mixed table-side, to get us going. It was crazy good. Our guest had a mushroom entree with polenta that tasted like the 'shrooms had just been harvested; however, my "small plate" size was plenty. The juniper-mesquite-grilled duck was out of this world, and the pastri-styled short rib tasted as advertised. The only things that were lacking: We sat on the left, less-interesting side of the restaurant by the wall, and our server ignored us much of the time -- hence only two stars for service.
