What Insiders Are Saying
A conveniently located restaurant in Midtown that’s more than just convenient. The food and service at Covina are great.
Food and service was excellent. Loved the salmon, skirt steak, meatball appetizer and the buratta appetizer was exceptional. Only complaint is my husband ordered the black bass and the portion of fish was very small. I realize that does happen with some types of fish entrees but it really should have been a bigger portion of fish. Was not the case with the salmon or the skirt steak. Skirt steak had excellent flavor and was cooked perfectly. Also had a very good bottle of wine that was recommend. We would definitely go back
One of my most favorite! Outstanding food! So cozy! Easy to have conversation! Love it! A gem
Great night great food
The food was good & the staff were friendly but lunch was very expensive .
Waiters were inattentive. We waited 10 minutes after seating for anyone to approach and ask if we wanted coffee. A request for honey was forgotten - I had to flag down another waiter to ask a second time. We were treated as if we were a bother.
I had a fine time, but I’ll overcritical for the people: it did it for me but didn’t do it for me.
Food was very good but portions for entrees were small. Portion for spinach large but $11 is pricey
I was looking forward to dinner at Covina, but other than the pleasant atmosphere and gracious manager David, but was disappointing. The server was generally MIA and it took 45 minutes to receive the hummus that we ordered with the intention of eating with drinks. Perhaps it was an unusual night because the restaurant was experiencing a health department inspection at the time, but we were unable to order mixed drinks initially, and food was delayed. (ie., we were told they were inspecting by the humus preparation). That said, when the humus finally arrived, there were four tiny triangles of pita and some lovely veggies, but for $18, it was inadequate. Two of the three fish dishes were unavailable. The grilled shrimp, which the server claimed were jumbo shrimp, were regular-sized shrimp at best and not enough for a main course. They were accommodating in that I requested a veggie in place of the polenta served with the shrimp, but some of the roasted squash was too undercooked to eat. The best part of the meal was the dark chocolate sorbet.
Again, perhaps the inspection affected the service, but the server was indifferent, the quality of the food was mediocre and the menu was limited. The manager who came to our table to offer prosecco when drinks were not available was very apologetic and seemed to care, and we were not charged for drinks or humus. Another plus was that although crowded, the noise level did not negatively affect being able to talk at our own table. The service and food, however, do not warrant a high rating for Covina.
Too much dressing on the Caesar salad. Waiter could have been more attentive
The food was delicious! The waitress was knowledgeable about the food and drink options. Since they are inside a hotel, the back of the restaurant has a cute seating area. I would definitely recommend.
Disappointing and overpriced
I took my staff to Covina for our annual holiday lunch. We had a reservation and (sorry) arrived 10 minutes late. We were placed at a smallish table in the back of the restaurant and apparently forgotten about. It took well over 20 minutes for someone to come take our drink orders then quite a while for our food to arrive. We ordered the roasted cauliflower and snapper ceviche appetizers and both were good. My cobb salad was very good but was mostly lettuce with not a lot of blue cheese or other items. Two people in our party ordered salmon and said it was quite good but was small portions (4 inch square). The roasted brocollini side dish was $15..not sure why so expensive when all other sides were $8. I ordered selzer w/lime and received seltzer with lemon, as did another person in my party. When we asked for refills they came out with lime (maybe someone bothered to read our orders). When we asked for a dessert menu we were told they only had ice cream and no one bothered to ask is we wanted coffee.
Covina was boppin' on a Wednesday evening. I sat at the bar while waiting for the other 3 in my party to arrive. The bartender Raphael was super friendly and made a great cocktail. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was warm, cozy, inviting, and fun. The food was delicious starting with the meatballs, the fried Hungarian bread, and snapper ceviche. All perfectly seasoned and cooked. The gulf shrimp on polenta was luxuriously rich with a backend heat that put it over the top flavor-wise. The black bass was also rich and delicious without being heavy. I didn't taste the burger, but it got raves.
Can't wait to go back!
I was disappointed in the cocktails. We had to send 2 cocktails back - they were syrupy and were not well balanced. Not what I expect at a nice NY restaurant.
Great spot, food was great, good drink options, overall an A
Food was tasteless and terrible! Grilled chicken on sandwich was cold and super rubbery! Were entertaining people for a celebration so couldn’t complain. Brought out 1 persons drink and the other persons came 15 minutes later. Turn off to have take out coffee and food, ie Starbucks style, right at entrance. Superb disappointing end to what should have been a memorable day.
Normally the service here is excellent, going above and beyond. This time we had a waiter with a bit of an attitude, not friendly, kind of just threw the check on the table. It was such an aberration from the usual great service that it really stood out. Maybe he was just having an off day.
The service was perfect and the food was truly delicious. Best of all the price point is really fair . It can get a bit noisy but all worth while. I will be returning.
Great food! The meatballs are OUT OF THIS WORLD!! Excellent pizzas include the Fontina and Brussel Sprout. I had a glass of wonderful rose with dinner too - PERFECT!
Absolutely fantastic meal! The vibes were great for Sunday brunch and the food was great. The lemon ricotta pancakes were a huge hit :)
Fantastic Caesar salad
The papparadelle was very light and just the right portion
I’d go back
Covina is a top-notch restaurant. The food was spectacular, especially the Hungarian Bread and Pappardelle. The restaurant is quiet and fairly private, with a great ambiance.
We are out-of-towners who were looking for good food, varied menu, nice atmosphere, decent prices. Covina was wonderful on most accounts. Being from Cleveland, spending $26 on a pizza is a bit outrageous, but it was delicious and the service was great. Would definitely recommend to others.
Good food and vibe but service could have been better. E.g. we ordered coffees that had to be reordered since the server changed and it came after our food.
Went for brunch, Everything we had here was exceptional... but the standouts were the wagyu brisket sandwich and spicy honey pizza. But you can’t order wrong with the menu. So delicious and would love to go back!
Everything very good. No complaints. Fun and friendly place. Parpdelle Bolognese and buger were excellent. Would definitely return.
Nice atmosphere. Food was tasty and I'd love to go back.
Good food - great service. We enjoyed the pizza appetizer. Meatballs, not so much. Amazing service with regard to a personable waiter and timely delivery of everything we ordered. The cod dish is awesome.
Went for boyfriends birthday. Such a great meal - ordered meatballs, mendili, and spicy honey pizza!! Cinnamon ice cream was amazing had pieces of Cinnamon Toast Crunch in it. Will be back soon. Thanks !
Extremely underrated spot but everything was done perfectly. Not too loud or crowded.
The salads, veggies and pizzas were GREAT! I wouldn't recommend ordering fish here because the portions are very small for the price. Otherwise everything was great!
Love this place! Everyone who works there is so nice too!
Food and service was excellent!
Great meal and service
Pizza, Fish, apps all wonderful
Great food! Servers make great recommendations and all of it is delicious!
A few of my co-workers recommended Covina for dinner with my Dad who was visiting from out of town. We (mostly he) was blown away! He doesnt ever get excited about restaurants and he has decided Covina is the new go-to when he is in town or for work dinners.
MUST HAVE the meatballs (best meatballs of my life) and the honey pizza
Expensive, but very high quality food. The pasta won't disappoint.
Food was delicious and sever was fantastic! Great recommendations. A bit louder but still a good atmosphere. Very enjoyable
