County Ratings and Reviews
It was the day after Christmas ... so the place was relatively empty ... the service was quirky yet attentive ... food good ... happy that the branzino was a filet versus the traditional whole fish serving...fried chicken was delicious...underwhelmed by the pear crisp...
I thought the overall experience was ok. I felt rushed by the staff, as I suppose we were dining on the later side of the evening. I would recommend the restaurant to not allow reservations later at night if they are planning to close. I had no idea our reservations were cutting close to their closing time.
My server was only short of being rude, and our check among 4 people was well over $300. It was embarrassing to me as I made the arrangements. I will think twice before booking again.
Our waiter was excellent but the food was average!!! We ordered the fried chicken and when it came out we were wondering if they forgot the rest of the chicken in the kitchen!!! It was literally one piece of Chicken Breast for $25!!!! Seriously!!! I know it's Manhattan prices but at least put another piece of chicken!!!
The bartender and specialty drinks are great with the usual wait required of craft cocktails. The food is delicious, once it arrives. We had to ask the manager if we should just go somewhere else for dinner after waiting 90 minutes between apps and main meal. The place wasn't busy. The servers' attitude insufferable. Worst, once management knew we were waiting too long, they waited until WAY after we paid the bill to ask what happened. "Here's your free glass of wine" or something else to apologize would have saved them from this negative review. One has to assume they don't care.
Met a friend for an early after work dinner. Place was nearly empty. We were given a small table gear the bar service area but it didn't seem worth asking to be reseated. Wine list has some reasonably priced bottles but not extensive.
First course salad w shrimp quite good. Short ribs ok. Friends fried chicken was reportedly really good.
By the time we left place was pretty packed If you're looking for a quiet chat go early.
The fresh burrata did not exceed expectations - as fresh as cheese can taste! Ordered the branzino as well which came with sundried tomato and potato chips. Everything in the dish made perfect sense.
Restaurant could get loud with big tables around but the hostess was kind enough to transfer us to a quieter spot. I live in the area and can see County as my go-to neighbourhood spot.
The place is small and cozy, the service attentive and friendly, the food excellent and creative enough to be interesting without ever ceasing to be yummy. We are locals, so have returned without ever being disappointed. Inhad only had dinner there, but brunch was delicious too. Very nice cocktails as well.
I didn't know what to expect and ended up loving the food at County! I dined with friends for dinner and everyone loved their meal. Highlights were the crunchy rice sushi appetizer and the bronzino main course. We would definitely return. (Noise level in the dining room is a bit loud though!)
...but when we get our bill with iced tea charges for each refill, it is maddening. Our group of 4 had 11 iced teas at $4 a pop for what we mistakenly referred to as a refill. While we are regular visitors to County, we forget this "feature". The evening was great otherwise -- food, gracious greeting from the owner, all eise was terrific.
As I know others must mention, do not pass up the ricotta appetizer.
It is disappointing that a restaurant that has so much going for it, is ruined by the noise factor. The music is turned up so high, and the acoustics so poor, that you cannot think about anything but the noise. Forget about having any sort of conversation. We finally asked for the music to be turned down, which was done, but at that point the evening had already been spoiled.
At 6:45, I was able to get a 7pm table for an impromptu dinner with my dad. Very warm and welcoming interior made of reclaimed wood. Had a delicious lamb confit bowtie pasta dish with a side of soy sesame oyster mushrooms. The mushroom side was a generous portion full of amazing mushroom flavor. The confit was in a delicious gravy topped off with ricotta. The service was excellent and the front of house manager was warm and gracious, she treated us like true guests rather than strangers clogging up her table rotation.
Had dinner last night at County. Definitely great food with good service but easily one of the loudest restaurants I have ever been to. At times it was deafening and I could barely hear my wife seated across from me. The flounder sashimi was amazing as was the tuna crudo and then for entrees we had the lamb confit with bowtie pasta and the salmon which were both delicious. We then split a bread pudding, which was unbelievably good, though not your typical style bread pudding. The wine list was short and the portions were relatively small but the quality of food was excellent. The noise level is something they need to work on as it may prevent us from ever going back and this was a Tuesday night!
We loved our County brunch. From the complimentary amuse bouche of homemade ricotta yogurt, to the surprise birthday dessert and all courses in between, the food was fresh and delicious. The presentation of each course was lovely as well. We appreciated that many ingredients are locally sourced - you can definitely taste the difference. Don't miss the bourbon bread pudding a la mode - it's to die for.
I would highly recommend County for any dinner needs. I have come here for my Birthday and several other important occasions. I am always bringing new people to the restaurant who fall in love with the dinner options. I had long been anticipating brunch at my favorite spot in NYC, and finally had the chance to try it this Sunday. I was sad to say the food was beyond sub-par. I was with three other friends who all agreed that the food was not up to County's standards. It was unappetizing and left us all with stomach aches and a loss of appetite for the rest of the day. The difference between meals truly was night and day, while fitting, an unfortunate way to describe Brunch options at County. I will still be coming for the fantastic dinner menu but will definitely not go back for brunch, and even sway others from doing so, although the restaurant was incredibly empty so I assume others already share my opinion.
Food was truly surprising. Interesting combinations of flavors, very creative ingredients, and dishes allowed those ingredients to really shine. Couldn't believe how amazing a special salad of unusual greens and roasted grains could be. Portions are small, which is great for someone like me who wants to try a lot of different things and not gorge, or someone dieting. But it's also pricey, mains in the $30s, apps $15-25.
I consider County my neighborhood go to place. Friendly staff and good service. The food is original and delicious..
The problem is the noise level. It is hard to have a conversation with your dining partner, but easy to hear the people at the table next to you.
My other complaint is the glass mugs. They are super hot and burn your fingers. When you take a sip, the ridged edge of the Mason jar style mug is uncomfortable. (I always ask for a regular china cup ). They do have them and they are tiny but much more comfortable to drink from! I know it's a style thing but it doesn't work well.
Went to County with a few friends - sat in bar area, which was loud and energetic. The complementary hush puppies were amazing - we had the tuna crudo (YUM!) and the salmon tartare - which was out of this world! My friends had the halibut - which was beautifully presented - of which they both cleaned their plates. I had the cheddar burger which was inventive - great sauce, absolutely delicious.
