Amazing food and wonderful service
Excellent service and comfortable restaurant, food good quality beautifully presented. A very pleasant experience
2nd time here and it's still special. Everything full of flavour and very tasty. Margarita gets a special mention this time because I didn't mention her by name last time, excellent service all round.
The dinner was a wonderful experience, from the delightful morsels sent out from the kitchen to the starters - well balanced, full of flavour, and beautifully presented and the mains, which were beautiful and delightfully prepared. The soufflé dessert was incredible. The wines, even though by the glass, were excellent as well. Service was impeccable. Overall a wonderful experience.
Fantastic food and great service.
Really good food, didn’t expect the set menu to be that good
Service wonderful. We found piano playing intrusive. Very small portions although food excellent but lacking vegetables
A gem in the heart of Kent! This fine dining experience was truly FINE. The menu has plenty of locally sourced ingredients put together to create some fantastic flavours.
Impeccable service from all the staff who were knowledgeable, discreet and there when we needed them.
The only problem is that I can only give 5 stars.
The food was very nice and well presented, but just a little disappointed that they don’t serve vegetables and carbs.
The services was very good and I would go again.
Excellent restaurant to celebrate my sons graduation
Always a wonderful foodie experience
Thankyou
I enjoyed it!
I would go again, but my partner found the portions a little on small side as did I , however there was a few compliments of the chef and we had 3 desserts between the 2 of us so left full enough
The restaurant was very nicely laid out the staff attentive , I would return again
All in all a good experience
Had Pre-theatre menu (before going to Marlowe) - very nice meal with good quality food and friendly, efficient service without being over the top. Would definitely return when in Canterbury.
Wonderful restaurant !
We spent an fantastic evening eating lobster and steak washed down with a bottle of prosecco. Great value for money.
Excellent food and very good service. Will return more regularly 😀
An all round excellent lunch and the bread is fabulous too.
Terrific tasting menu with wine on Friday night. Great staff who were very informed and the food and wine were excellent. I particular some very interesting and unusual wines were a delight. Thanks and we’ll be back.
Food was very tasty, no complaints there. However the waiting staff do need advise how small the portions are.
We did not elect to go for a starter thinking the main would be substantial enough. However the portion was extremely small and there is no option to add a side, so despite a few admittedly delicious amuse bouches there was no way our appetite would be satisfied.
The restaurant did cook some extra broccoli for us after we complained but it took the shine off the meal which was a shame as the quality is very good.
Thoroughly enjoyed very high quality food, in particular very succulent lobster and steak. Really very good cooking. The ambience in the lounge is lovely, less so in the dining room - a touch worn and jaded. But the service is very good and the food excellent.
Lovely Valentines Tasting Menu
food good but portions are small andtherefore felt it was a little onthe expensive side. Rather noisy as they had two large parties in but they did seat us as far away as possible.
Excellent quality meal and service and especially good value with one of the OpenTable offers.
Birthday meal. Service very slow. Disappointed as was for a special occasion.
As always, tasting menu very well put together and the accompanying wine choices really matched the food well
Very nice evening
The meal was excellent, from the freshly baked bread with two different butters served with a small bowl of delicious soup, through the starter and main and the wonderfully presented and full-flavoured dessert. The setting is delightful and the service excellent throughout with our waiter explaining each dish and checking, unobtrusively, on how we were at appropriate moments. And for under £25 for a three course lunch, who could possibly complain at the price? It was fine dining at an affordable price, with each component on the plate adding to the experience and bringing different flavours and textures to the whole. Excellent.
A fantastic meal for my girlfriends birthday.
We had the tasting menu, which was fantastic, served up by very knowledgable and very well presented staff.
All round a very lovely meal.
They never had our booking and we had to leave to find another restaurant
Not allowed to take photos when dining there so that's a negative point
We ate here before a few years ago and we're not too impressed and decided to give it another go. We chose the tasting menu with wine. Really good food with some fantastic combinations. The somellier was excellent, taking time to carefully explain the wine and food pairings. Tasting + wine definitely recommended for foodies! Service was attentive and swift yet unhurried, and very pleasant at all times. Only slight disappointment was in the bar - we ordered a bottle of Dom and the glasses offered twice were dirty (only water stains, but still, I'd expect sparkling glasses in a champagne bar). This didn't overshadow an otherwise excellent evening, very reassuring to find that the service and food has come on leaps and bounds from our last visit. We will definitely be returning.
We were visiting Canterbury for the weekend, and stayed at the ABode hotel. It made sense to book the hotel restaurant for dinner. The food was really excellent, exceeding expectations - modern cuisine, beautifully cooked, and creatively presented. The amuse bouche jerusalem artichoke soup was wonderful.
Only two niggles - the wine list was not extensive, and it seemed some of the wines available for the tasting menu were not on the list. The side vegetables were overcooked, in contrast to the main event.
Excellent! We ate great food! We will definitely be back!
Pls go and try it!!!
Went on a Saturday evening before going to the Marlowe. First through the door at 5.30. Very quiet all evening - hence ambience marked down. Limited choice of food as expected but was served to a very high standard and offered great value for money. Would highly recommend.
Absolutely outstanding first time there will definitely be returning waiting staff and food were incredible
The staff were attentive, the room was laid out with plenty of room and felt very special. The food was exquisite. Although portion size is not vast, the taste certainly was.
I felt that the Head Waiter could have interacted a little more with us and the other customers. We provided a few opening lines to invite him into a conversation but was not received very well. I understand that there has to be a professionalism but interaction with the customers can add more value to the experience.
Overall, a thoroughly good experience and will be back for future special occasions.
Wanted a special occasion in a quiet setting prior to our daughter in law going to Papua New Guinei and was not disappointed. Food was excellent as was the personal service received. I will definitely be going back for other occasions as you were never rushed and had time to talk.
The staff were polite and welcoming. Food was however expensive and the portion was small for the monies that we were paying for the meal. It is pretty pricey and portions were small. I am wondering if it is a Graduation Meal and the price for the meal was increased for that night as the University of Kent had their graduation for this week for all their students.
Perhaps the restaurant would be able to advise on this.
Although the meal was for a special occasion it wasn't as enjoyable as we'd hoped. The service was great but the food was only ok. The prices as high given the quality of the meal.
Food extremely good . I do not know of anywhere in canterbury that can get close to this quality. Staff very friendly and explained food and wine well.
No pressure to leave despite the fact that we were the last ones there.
Will definitely recommend and revisit.
