Costa Brava Ratings and Reviews
The staff were friendly but too busy to give decent service. They seem to have a staffing/management issue. As expensive as it was there was no sign of management. Some of the food served cold and one dinner came late - after some in our group were nearly done. The food was generally very good.
A great get away with my husband this weekend, our waiter was super helpful and kind. Love the option to sit at the bar or the dining area. Super cool art work throughout the dining area. Overall experience was wonderful and definitely will be visiting again❤️
Went down to st. Augustine up from Jacksonville with my wife to enjoy a nice overnight getaway. Decided on this restaurant since we've never been there before. The ambience and overall Aesthetics were beautiful. However, the service was lacking to say the least. Server wasn't very personable and had forgotten to even put in our appetizer. Which wasn't realize until they brought out our main entree. They did however, at least offered us a complimentary dessert. Just overall wasn't what I what expect for the prices on the menu. Honestly not really interested in going back
I wish I could have said something positive but can't. I arrive a few hours early to try to change my seating time in person but waited 15 minutes for anyone to talk to me. The lady behind the bar was supposed to get someone to help but never did so it was a complete disappointment
It was a major bummer because this restaurant hasn't been consistent since becoming Costa Brava. Our last experience before this one was great, a very generous piece of sea bass. We brag the place up to our friends and invite them and then the fish is half the size. Consistency is the key. It's was drives people away.
My lamb chops were excellent. They were two double chops about the size as in a rack of lamb.
The roasted peppers were burned and not firm. The charring overcame the taste of the peppers. They definitely didn't go with the lamb chops. We also had a couple of roasted onions, which were not chared and were delicious with the chops.
They served a sweet ligonbrrry sauce with this dish. While it was tasty, I believe a mint jelly sauce always goes better. We're from the northeast, where mint jelly typically accompanies lamb.
Our seafood chowder soup and lettuce wedge were both excellent. Our dessert, a cheese cake, likewise was excellent.
My wife and I went here for our one year anniversary dinner. I had the golden tile fish, and it was the absolute best piece of fish that I've ever had! It was cooked perfectly. Slight crispness on the outside, tender and moist on the inside. Would definitely recommend for a fancy date night or special occasion!
Unbelievable how good the food was. Thought we were eating at a different restaurant and realized we were eating at the Casa Monica Hotel in St Augustine, where we have eaten many times and now they have a new chef and new decor.
Food and service were absolutely amazing and you should try the grilled octopus and the Spanish ham, and we loved just splitting appetizers and wine.
Very limited menu. The food was ordinary. Our waiter was inattentive. He forgot to bring my salad until we reminded him when he brought my entree. Even then it took a while to bring it. I was finished with my meal when it came. The food prices were high for the quality of the meal and for the standard this hotel claims, it was far below my other Kessler experiences.
This was a huge disappointment. We had an 8:45 reservation and were promptly seated. The Casa Monica cocktail lounge (Cobalt) is right outside the entrance to the dining room was in full swing with live music. We asked to be seated as far from the door as possible but still had to lean over the table to hear one another.
We ordered the White Seafood Chowder ($9), the Heirloom Tomatoes and Burrata ($13) and the Seafood Empanada ($13) to start. The chowder was delicious, but only about half a cup worth and the scallop I scooped up was a little hockey puck. My husband enjoyed the empanada which I didn't try. The tomato/mozzarella plate was just that. No burrata...the tomatoes were very tasty, but the whole plate could have used a little bit more balsamic and basil as there wasn't enough of either to go with each bite. I asked if the kitchen was aware they were serving sliced mozz (like I can buy from Publix) instead of burrata and they said, yes, they had forgotten to tell me. At $13, that's a big slip. In all fairness they offered to take it back, but I did eat it so I thanked them and declined.
My husband ordered the Grilled Lamb Chops ($35) and ordered the Brandy Flamed Pepper Steak ($38), both medium rare. The two chops were nicely done, very flavorful, but dry. The orange chutney was actually cranberry...
My steak was generous (visions of morning steak and eggs!) and smelled fabulous, but (wait for it!) was well-done. Again, they offered another steak, but my husband was almost done eating and I was just over it! They did take the steak off of the bill, but I would have preferred to pay for one I could eat.
One and done. Oh well.
The experience here was definitely worth it! Our table of 4 shared a few of the small plates and were very satisfied with the quantity, quality and presentation. The roasted sherry shrimp, Hummus and Bohemian calamari were on the top of our list of favorites. Even the manager Amy came over and said a few words to us. Her team is doing an outstanding job!
We were trying to find a very nice restaurant to have Mother's Day Brunch before heading to the beach when I remembered Cordova 95, now called Costa Brava, was a great, fine-dining restaurant for special occasion brunches. As I also recall, the prices were not inexpensive...in years past we've spent close to $50/person for brunch, however feeling it was worth it as the brunch options are delicious and extensive.
We were however disappointed that it was not pointed out online or when we called to reserve that the prices were near $70/person or that a 20% gratuity would be added to our bill automatically. After experiencing very sub-par service from our waiter (I had to ask twice for a glass of O.J. and 3 different times to have my coffee refilled), we were absolutely shocked at the bill when it came. Shame on me for not asking for the brunch prices before confirming our reservations, however I was expecting near $50/person when I booked... I guess shock just overcame us after our not-so-impressive service. I mean really, how difficult is it to provide spectacular service when all you are responsible for is the drinks and the accompaniments since the food is procured from the buffet by the patrons?
I love the ambiance and cuisine at Costa Brava, however will definitely think twice when considering it again for Sunday Brunch.... hopefully the service is more inline with the price-tag during dinner service.
We made reservations at the Casa Monica Hotel's restaurant for our best friend's 27th anniversary. The evening started with our trying to contact the restaurant three times to let them know traffic was delaying our arrival. The phone rang continuously, and no one answered. When we got to the hotel, there was no parking. The valet told us to drive around the city and to find our own parking.
The bad service continued after we were seated. We waited 25 minutes with no service. Finally, someone took our drink order, which took another 20 minutes to deliver, at which time we asked for appetizers. Because it took over 40 minutes to get our drinks, we ordered our appetizers and dinners at the same time. We would have ordered a second round of drinks, but no one stopped by our table again until dinner was served. The club soda was served in plastic cups. The waiter spilled my drink all over the table and left it for me to clean it up. My husband requested a refill of his club soda, and he poured table water into his glass. The carafe and glasses were spotty and there was lipstick on his glass.
Finally, our dinner was served. We were told that our service was delayed because of another table that was demanding his attention. There were only 5-6 tables so I cannot imagine why our service was so bad. We had a large bouquet of roses on our table, so it was obvious that we were dining out for a special occasion.
Despite the terrible service, the food was absolutely delicious, but we expected so much more from a restaurant associated with the Casa Monica Hotel. We used to dine at 95 Cordova regularly and loved it. If we had not been given gift cards, we would have left after the first 30 minutes of waiting. I do not foresee returning to this restaurant.
