Costa Brava Ratings and Reviews
Maybe it was just a busy night, but the service was not as great as I hoped it would be for the price. I felt as if they were rushing us to order and when we did, our tables server/waiter was scarcely around. I had to request another carafe of water from another server. The couple next to us arrived approximately 20 mins after us and ordered their food, but our food came out merely 2-3 mins before theirs did. I get that sometimes the kitchen may get backed up, but some notice would have been appreciated and our steaks came to our table a little cold. When we were done eating, that’s when they really picked up the pace. As soon as I placed my utensils on my plate, they were there to clear my plate and were anxious to get the table cleared as if they were just hovering near us. If I do return to this restaurant, I may try for a different reservation time.
We didnt realize that this was the old 95 Cordova restaurant just renewed. The interior looks nice. The place was not too packed when we arrived at 6:45 pm but later it got busy. Right off the bat the place looked great. The only issue we had was it was our third year anniversary and we put on Open Table to requests a nice quiet table. That wasnt at all what we got. We got a standard table between other parties. The turn off was there was PLENTY of secluded tables. Didnt feel like the restaurant even read the notes! We ordered the Sangria. The Sangria was made with Jim Beam and was honestly the WORST Sangria I have ever had. Try Columbia....much better. I finished it only because of the cost, but woke to a terrible headache. Jim Beam really? Anyway, we ordered some Wagyu Carpaccio and grilled octopus. Both were very good. I ended up doing the Ribeye which was also very good. The total bill was close to $200 and to be frank, not the best meal for the price. Stoll down St George Street to find better for cheaper. Probably a reason we stopped going here years ago. not bad food and good ambiance, just not for the value.
The restaurant was beautiful and the food was amazing. Our server was really nice but wasn’t the caliber we would have expected for the restaurant. Took a while to see wait staff then a few key things were forgotten.
We will try it again and hope for a better experience.
Went with my husband for dinner., while staying at hotel . Tables are very dark you can barely see menu or food. I had the pear salad which was just passable. My husband had the steak and I had the salmon for entrees, they were both good but not exceptional. Service was good.
I would first like to say that the food was very good as was the service. The people that were dining next to us was so loud that we could not even have conversation. The seating that we had was like eating "family style" with strangers sitting right next to your elbow. There is also a lot of noise coming from the lounge area that really takes away from a cozy dining experience.
We arrived a little early for our reservation and were promptly seated. Our server Matt could not have been more cordial and efficient. We had the crab cake & Hunters Plater (assorted meats & cheeses) as appetizers.
We shared an entree comprised of beef filet, chorizo & lamb chops.
Everything was really enjoyable including our wine selection and sangria.
We were greeted by the manager Alex who was very personable- welcoming and accommodating. We really enjoyed our time here- we'll certainly be back again.
Elegant, lovely setting, good food, manager came by table to say hello. Props to our server who went to get us a bar/pub menu when I asked about burgers (dining room is more formal and didn't have burgers on the menu). We specified we were trying to get to a theater performance by 7:30 p.m. and our server ensured we were not running late. The dining room crowd is definitely older and the place is quiet before 7 p.m. After that it livened up with more young people.
One of the worst dining experiences we have had in St Augustine. It was our anniversary and I had requested a romantic table or the best - which they tried to accommodate but there really wasn’t one. The couple seated behind us were very drunk, using profanity loudly which, that’s fine because they were happy, but I figured at this establishment it would have been handled. I had to ask for bread and water just because it had been about an hour of waiting. The food was mediocre at best. Which was surprising since it was a $36 sea bass. It also seemed the waiter forgot about us. We ended up going through old photos and reminiscing on our year together. We ended up talking to guest services and all she could say was sorry, which I’m sure she didn’t know what to do. It would have been nice to have a manager speak to us or to take our name and number. I’m so bummed because I had waited years to eat here as I live downtown and it happened to leave a very bad taste in my mouth. Pun intended. Maybe it was an off night for the restaurant.
On New Year's Eve, you know that all restaurants will be full and a bit chaotic. I don't mind paying extra -- but $125 was too much for what was delivered. The food was below par. Soup lukewarm, appetizers tiny...reminded me of a so-so catered banquet meal. Service was rushed and impersonal. The entertainment was too loud - thank heavens we were a distance away. Next year - need to make plans earlier to have more options. This will not be one I would consider.
We were there for NYE and it was a prix fixed menu. Everything was very good, but they got the temp of my steak wrong twice. They were quick to replace it and offered to accommodate with extras. Atmosphere was perfect for us and the waitress was calm and attentive.
I've been going to this hotel and restaurant for years, and something must have happened. The dining room used to be great, especially when they changed the menu a year or two ago and brought in a great chef. Recently they changed it up again and not for the better. It's unfortunate and I hope they get back to where they used to be - both in quality of food, menu options and service.
Really too bad but this place was the worst of our meals during our 3 day stay. Service was slow for all tables. They said they were hit all at once but I did not see evidence of that. The bar was super busy which seems like a separate portion of the hotel. Everyone looked really annoyed. Seemed like they were short staffed. The good, I had the seabass was fine. Portion was a tad small but good flavor. I did, as one will, a huge palmetto that ran under one of the pole supports in the middle of the room. Didn’t sit well.
4 of us decided to attend the Downton Abbey clothing show at the Lightner museum. Costa Brava is right across the street with convenient hotel parking. Costa Brava's menu was delightfully eclectic and our food turned out to be very good. Unfortunately, it took a long while to get to us. I don't think it was the waitress. She was attentive and pleasant. It appeared to be more the kitchen. The whole place didn't seem prepared for customers; one waitress, no one to greet or seat us. Frankly it was very strange as the town was busy as it seemed was the hotel.
We picked this Casa Monica hotel restaurant only because it was open on Christmas Day and the other restaurants that had been recommended were not. Fortunately we made a reservation because it was packed. We were not told in advance it was a $69 prefix menu, so that was a surprise. It was mostly tasty, service was slow but polite, not the best $225 we’ve spent on a meal as a couple.
Overall, very disappointing. We went knowing that there was a fixed Christmas menu, which looked very good. The food was well-prepared and presented, but the only note-worthy dish was the pan seared sea bass. The appetizer was one shrimp and one oyster. The crab bisque, which came out quite awhile later, was good, but not outstanding. The sea bass was perfectly delicious, but quite small (about 3 or 4 ounces) the herbed risotto was very bland. The Buche de Noel was quite good, not too sweet or too rich. Our server was excellent. He was personable and attentive and had a very professional demeanor. However, service was VERY SLOW and not our server's fault. We were seated at about 7:00 pm and by 8:15 we had had only two courses. Dinner was not worth the $200 we paid. By the way, whatever happened to dress codes? If one can afford to eat at Costa Brava, then one can afford to leave the holey jeans and camo cargo shorts in the closet and choose something more suitable.
I went there for the Christmas dinner.
The atmosphere was very nice, but the food was not the best. I had the sea bass, which did not taste fresh and was really fishy. The portions were extremely small for the price. I left hungry after 4 courses and I'm tiny.
The woman working at the front desk was very friendly, helpful and welcoming.
We had a Christmas eve dinner, so it wasnt a very fair time to review it. They had a special evening meal and a VERY crowded resturant. They made their reservation time commitment, but service was slow between courses.......like 20 minutes between each course. The food however almost made up for the extended wait times between courses. Everything was delicious. We will definately return to St Augustine and we will definately try this resturant again.
Service was terrible and slow especially considering it was a prefix menu at $70 per person. We were first to be sat at opening and still took 2 1/2 hours to finish meal. Took about 30 minutes to get drinks. 45 minutes to get kids meal which was kraft Mac and cheese which they tried to charge us $12 each for and gave no first or third course like menu said. When I questioned why I was being charged $24 for two Kraft Mac and cheeses the server got smart with me. The menu said kids 6-11 were $24. My kids were 2 & 4 and didn’t get appetizers or desserts. Then when the bill came it didn’t include gratuity but after everyone paid 20% gratuity got put on there. No wonder the server didn’t care the whole time we were there. Food was mediocre for how nice of a restaurant it seemed to be. Ambiance was great, food and prices not worth what we paid at all. Will never return or recommend. Management definitely needs to have top servers on flood especially for what we paid on a special occasion, Christmas Eve.
Waited over an hour for appetizers. Upon reminding them that we had appetizers they suddenly were found about 15 minutes later. Entrée was served approximately 20 minutes after that. We’re not that busy at that time of night but I have the feeling that I had not brought it to their attention I will still be sitting there waiting for my dinner.
Took my daughter to dinner, expecting a five star experience. We have stayed at the Casa Monica many, many times and it has always been great . First thing I noticed when we were seated was the table next to us - the people were dressed as if they were at Denny’s !! The woman had some sort of dress ?? And the man had on Jeans and sneakers !!!! Really !!! To pay close to 200.00 for dinner for two , I don’t want to see Denny’s people . What happened to the dress code ??? If the restaurant is so desperate for guests , perhaps offer hot dogs on the menu . On the up side , our server was awesome and very knowledgeable - atmosphere was great as well ( just as it always has been ) . I recommend putting the dress code back in place !!!!!! The Casa Monica used to be one of few places to really have a classy night out .... very disappointed. Tell Richard he has to do a better job .
