I went for Sunday brunch and had the BEST time. Our server, Amber, was amazing. She was attentive but not overbearing. The food was quick and delicious. The music was so relaxing. All components lead to an A+ experience. I will definitely be back soon!!
This was a great restaurant but had a few service/food glitches based on our orders, however, they did go out of their way to try and fix it and to meet dietary needs. The food we had was ordered well done and tasty and just right for brunch.
My biggest complaint was that the live music during brunch funneled right into the side room we were given for our party of 7 which made it difficult to converse.
Food was good but a bit under seasoned....
Good, not great....expected a bit more....
The place is beautiful , the ambiance and staff are amazing. The downfall is the food and the value. I would pay 500$ for a plate of food if it wow's me but the food although tasty i could get anywhere else for much less. Nothing exciting very blah menu.
A nice table was ready when we arrived. The service was excellent. The food was just above average. The salmon was very good, but the lamb was overcooked. We requested medium rare, but it came just little short of well done.
We were staying at the Casa Monica for the weekend and dined at Costa Brava for a lunch and a breakfast. The food was very good both times and well prepared. What stands out are the staff. Our lunch server Amber was not only very attentive as our waiter but at the end of the meal and we were the last diners, she assisted us with recommendations to see in the neighborhood. Very friendly but also spoke very highly of the hotel and its care of her and the other employees. We overheard another waitress speak about when she had a family illness, how good the hotel management was to her and that she had never worked for an employer as good as Kessler. Its a beautiful hotel, very good food, but the dedicated people who work for this company that cares - that is five star in my book. I highly recommend both the restaurant and the hotel.
Thank you for the kind words! We will share the feedback with both ladies. We look forward to hosting you when you're back in St. Augustine. Kindly, Barrett Toole Restaurant Manager
Easy breakfast in our hotel lobby. Service was top notch and food was good. Prices are as expected in a hotel. One of the only places to get a breakfast while town is packed and has limited options.
We appeared for dinner on New Year's Eve and were very disappointed. We had been to the restaurant several years ago and enjoyed it, so made a reservation for New Years about a month in advance. When we arrived for an 830 reservation, after waiting to be seated we were placed in a table right by the bar where the band was so loud we could not hear at all. When I asked if there were any other tables available, the maître de rudely told me no. The food was mediocre at best, for a high price for St. Augustine. We will never come to this restaurant again.
The restaurant decor is very simple, nothing fancy, and the noise level is high. However, the staff is tops, very friendly and professional. We had, my wife and I, a NYE dinner of five courses and all of them were high detail, careful cuisine, and very, very good. My only no-no was the sommelier who swished my wine before I tasted; nothing to complain loudly, but I am old school and like to take my time with a recently opened wine bottle. A very satifying experience, and the staff really makes a difference. I fully recommend this restaurant; much better that others (which we tried) and that appear better rated in St Augustine. This is good, professional, and friendly. Do not miss it in your next visit to that wonderful city of St Augustine.
Food was exquisite. Went for brunch on Sunday. Service a bit slow but food made up for it.
Great service from richard up until the entrees showed up. He kept disappearing for 20/25 minutes. Totally dropped the ball. We sat for almost an hour after we finished our entrees waiting to remove the entree, prepare an bill, settle the bill. I had 3/4 of my 43.00 steak left over and my wife had 1/2 her scallop plate leftover to be boxed. He never brought the boxes leftovers and with all the aggravation of being left unattended we left without our food. The manager never stopped by to introduce himself, and passed by several times making eye contact but never to ask how was everything. When paying 163.00 for two dinners I expect a little better service. Once again, the food was amazing.
Great lunch experience. Wish we would have saved it for dinner but we were in town at a super busy time. Service and food were very good.
Came for the 4 course Christmas dinner. Lovely service, even though the restaurant was packed. The courses were fairly generous. The butternut squash bisque was to die for.
Parking might be an issue, but the hotel has valet parking. Reservations a must, especially for holiday meals.
My fiancé and I had a wonderful Christmas dinner at Costa Brava this year. The food is delicious, they have excellent dirty martinis, and we really enjoy the atmosphere in the hotel during the holidays.
Went on Christmas Day, one of the few places you could make a reservation. Beautiful restaurant and great food!
Located inside the Casa Monica Hotel, the restaurant is a fine dining establishment with a smart, casual vibe. The food and service are excellent. The ambiance is quite elegant. We enjoyed our meal immensely.
Dinner was not good, the food was not impressive and the portions were really small. Not worth the money at all, I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.
While the food and service were very good, the seating was abominable. Tables lined up along the edges, Formica tops , squished into each other so you felt like you were conversing with the room is not my idea of dining at these prices.
And why ask what we were celebrating if you aren’t going to do anything about it.
Won’t return, won’t recommend.
This was a horrid experience at one of our favorite restaurants. We arrived at 5:00 in order to go to Lewis Auditorium as we are on the EMMA board and help set up for concerts.
The food was not delivered until after 5:45. My entree was a tenderloin that was anything but tender. I left most of it as we were late.
There was a lack of waitstaff which contributed to the delay.
We won’t be back.
Nice hotel restaurant and nothing more. I was disappointed because all reviews make it sound spectacular. The restaurant was not crowded at 11am yet it took 10 minutes to even get waters. My egg white omelette was delicious but not worth the money; same with the other 4 people’s food in my party.
The food could have been amazing, but when our order came out my husband's food was cold and my fresh arugula was wilted into a dried herb over my scallops. I wanted to like this place but it was a disappointment. The drink menu seems as if it hasn't been updated since the 1990's and the bartender didn't know how to make a simple cocktail that all bartenders should know how to make. The place was beautiful. The waiter we had was awful. I am wondering how much of the food and timing issues were his fault. It took about an hour and a half (or more) for our entrees to arrive at the table. Our drinks stood unfilled for long portions of time and this included the water glasses. Overall, a terrible disappointment.
Decent dinner but not worth the money spent....
The scallops and cioppino were good. Pass on the Calimari though... I’ve had better calimari from a box from Costco heated in the microwave...Wine selections leave a lot to be desired as well.
Food and is consistently good with a great atmosphere for either a date night out or business dinner. Great location within the Casa Monica hotel in historic downtown St. Augustine.
First visit & we found the food to be very good & quite fairly priced. Portions were large & can easily be shared. Service was great. Will definitely go back
Server was good, but not that well trained. Glasses and dishes were not picked up timely. Mashed potatoes were horrible and we paid $8 additional to get them. Food was way too rich. Bathrooms were a mess and at one point, they were even closed and there was no place to refer us to. Definitely not a good experience for the prices we paid.
To top off our wonderful day of celebration, I had planned a beautiful 39th Anniversary Dinner for my wife and I at the Casa Monica restaurant downtown last night….
But in spite of the fact that I had called and confirmed our dinner reservations the afternoon before, and in spite of the fact that I specifically confirmed that indeed valet parking IS provided for patrons of the restaurant, not just for people staying at the hotel, we were turned away.
We were told when we arrived that “valet parking is only available to people checking in or staying at the hotel,” and that they had “recently changed our policy” so that valet parking is no longer provided to people simply dining in their fine restaurant.
When I had called the day before to confirm that valet parking was indeed provided for people simply dining at the the restaurant and not staying at the hotel, not only was I told “YES,” but I was given explicit instructions on where to go and how to enter the valet parking area off of King Street. AND I was wished a happy 39th Anniversary and told to enjoy our anniversary dinner Celebration.
If I had been told that valet parking was NOT available to people with dinner reservations when I called to confirm, I simply would have arranged for an Uber or a Taxi, plain and simple. (I had looked into hiring a chauffeur driven limo, but the $600 for a two hour rental on a Saturday night was just a bit outside of my budget).
Imagine my surprise when I found out later that not only had we been turned away, but the Casa Monica restaurant had now branded us as a “NO SHOW” on OpenTable®, thus compromising our OpenTable® points and jeopardizing our account with OpenTable®.
Just a word of warning to any of you guys planning a nice Anniversary Dinner at the Casa Monica with your wife, DON’T.
Instead, do what we should have done to begin with, and patronize a locally owned restaurant, owned by one of our neighbors who benefits from our money a lot more.
Thank you Mr. BruceB Providing the highest level of hospitality is our number one priority and we sincerely apologize for falling short of meeting your expectations with parking. I have contacted OpenTable to reverse your no show posting to ensure that you still receive your points and would love to invite you and your wife back for a complimentary dinner. Please reach out to me at 904-819-6150 and I will gladly help facilitate. Sincerely, Josh Powell
Delicious seafood chowder, lovely ambience and great service.
Usually we have a very fine experience at this place, but this time had some disappointments. Our server seemed inexperienced, and when I complained that the salmon tasted fishy, and I would like a new portion, I was basically told that all the salmon was the same. I then asked for some lemon for it, and was given 3 small cubes of it, hardly enough juice to douse the fishy taste. I should have asked to talk to the manager. The prices here should guarantee fish that is fresh. The rest of the food we ordered was fine.
As always, we had a fantastic time, great food, service and ambiance.. Thanks so much for the Birthday dessert (it was "to die for") .. The whole experience was "over the top"
Out on Black Friday with the family at St Augustine and had wanted to eat Tapas. The food was very good and we will definitely go back.
Really disappointing Thanksgiving dinner. One dinner (tenderloin) was served nearly raw when ordered medium rare. Turkey dinner came with no vegetables. Lamb was extremely fatty. Waitress tried hard to smooth everything over but for a $75 pp fixed price it just wasn’t worth the trip.
This was our first time dining at Costa Brava. We were disappointed with many things to include where we were initially sat, the service, the price for what we received and the wait time for our meal. We have 3 small children and did not expected quick service, but our entire meal took 3 hours. We are hoping to make this a Thanksgiving tradition, however after this experience we will forego dinner and maybe try brunch instead. Overall, the food was good for the adults. Not good for the kids.
We made reservations for Thanksgiving brunch for 4 people. Service was very slow and we were seated for over 10 minutes with waitstaff scurrying around past our table, but no one addressed us or acknowledged that we had been seated for a while, with no drinks, etc. After 10 minutes of waiting I reached out and touched one of the waitstaff on the arm who had also been back and forth past our table several times, and I asked if she knew who our waitstaff would be. She walked away briefly and spoke with another woman who quickly came to our table and introduced herself as our server. We had been sitting there going on 15 minutes and we had watched that server walk back and forth beside our table but she never spoke or told us that she’d be serving our table and would be with us shortly, which would have been the wise and courteous thing to do. After she finally came to our table she was very nice, but everything was rushed, and/or she kept forgetting to bring things to the table. She took our drink orders and told us we were free to help ourselves to the buffet. Two of us at our table ordered coffee, and she brought our coffee with the creme and sweetener but no spoons, and only forks and knives were provided with our napkins on our tables. We never saw her again for another 5-10 minutes, so we ended up using the handle of our knives to stir our coffee. When we wanted to order more drinks, we could see that she was rushing around in the distance tending to other tables. Overall we had a very nice Thanksgiving meal. The food was fabulous, along with the selection. One thing I would recommend on the buffet would be to serve a variety of crackers with the huge cheese table that was on display. Other guests were also commenting as they were looking and asking about crackers. When we were given our bill, we were surprised that 20% gratuity was added to our check for 4 guests, especially when we were serving ourselves and the service was lacking attention.
Was there for lunch on Thanksgiving, which turned out to be a buffet. It was $69 per person, which was definitely not worth it. Food OK, but for a 5 star price I expect 5 star food; and it wasn't. They also had the gall to add 20% tip mandatory, party of 2, for a buffet. Won't ever return here.
Food and Service excellent Thought it was somewhat expensive but based on being a Holiday it was acceptable
Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with this meal. The Pear Salad was very good, as was our service, but the entree’s (Tenderloin and Salmon) were very subpar, especially for the price structure. We will not return.
