Costa Brava Bistro Ratings and Reviews
This is a nice neighborhood restaurant, a true gem in Bellaire. It is pricey, and there is no lunch menu, so it a very pricy lunch if you go then. I do wish they would have some lighter fare, but most of their food is quite heavy. I usually just eat a small portion of the meal and bring the rest home. All that being said, the food is very good, and the service is A+. They offer a very nice selection of wine, and the sangria is delicious. The salmon with cauliflower purée is delicious, as is the chicken dish with lentils. I can't say I've ever had a bad meal here, so essentially you can't go wrong with any entree! They have nice coffee, but no non-fat milk if you like that for a latte or a cappuchino. The desserts are ok, but very sweet. The atmosphere is nice and welcoming. It can be chilly in the restaurant, so bring a wrap if you tend to get cold easily.
Costa Brava is our only "go-to" restaurant when we're visiting Houston a couple of times each year.
It has never, over five years, disappointed us in any way. And we are, I can assure you, very picky guests, having dined throughout France, Spain and Italy.
Go. You'll be impressed, too.
Costa Brava does not disappoint. Food is consistently very good or excellent, whether it is a special entree or standard menu item. Two of us had lamb (chops, lamb "Osso buco") and another had quail. All were fantastic. The special stuffed pepper appetizer was just enough to whet our appetite; and the two desserts were fantastic.Service is extremely attentive without being cloying. Good wines both by the glass and bottle. All in all, a great spot.
We have been before and enjoy it every time. The staff really show they care that you enjoy your meal. They are adaptable to different requests for different folks. We asked for a slow pace between courses and the people next to us were speeding through and going to a show and everyone seemed happy. Their Octopus appetizer is always good and never rubbery so if it is something you always wanted to try this is the place to do it. The wine list has a nice selection of Spanish wines which are not always on the list at other California dominated places. All in all a dependable good experience.
Excellent, always fresh food offerings. Excellent ambiance, with a personal touch!
Any of the seafood (i.e. The Grilled Rainbow Trout and the Snapper are favorites) dishes are expertly prepared, with a nice selection of sides. On this visit, my husband had a lamb shank that was 'fork-tender'! Nice wine selection, and dessert options (if you have room, try the Manchego Cheesecake or the carmel apple tart)!
We dine here often, and have never had a bad meal!
My friend and her daughter were visiting from Ecuador. They have both travelled extensively and are well versed in regional cuisines of the many places they've been to. I wanted to impress their taste buds with an authentic Catalonian meal. In addition, my friend has developed some intolerances so food items recently and has had to become a vegetarian. Luckily for us, Costa Brava had delicious selections for everyone, and they even adjusted some to her vegetarian needs.
Wine was very good, as usual. And I had my customary glass of cava. Lifes doesn't get any better!
The place is small & the tables are very close together. You can hear everyone else's conversation. I am very surprised that that has not been noted. No one asked if our food was great or exceptional service . I am sure regulars get * treatment. but to give if proper credit The food was delightful.. we had salad, ribeye steak & snapper.
Stepping into Costa Brava, you would never suspect you are in a strip center on a busy street. The atmosphere is elegant, cozy, and comfortable. The food is outstanding, very fresh and very well prepared. The service is excellent. Costa Brava is a favorite.
Excellent menu selections from the creative Iberico Bone Broth Soup to the New Zealand lamb, Icelandic cod, Paella and Manchego Cheesecake. The proprietors who double as hostess and chef are welcoming and engaging with their clientele. Good wine selection without being overwhelmed by choices. We will be returning to this Bellaire gem.
We dine here at least 3 - 4X per month for the past several years. Love the food, service and owners - Angie & Kitty.
This past week we booked 5 days in advance, noting it was for a birthday and hoped for a good table. We were offered one immediately - next to the kitchen, by the back door and poopers! The seat manager has disappointed us several times before giving us inferior tables while betters ones go empty. This time, we told him it was unacceptable.
Rather than apologize, he starts a litany of complaints about his job, the crowd, people not leaving as planned, full house, etc. That capped it for us... we do not go out to spend $100 - $150 to listen to an incompetent employee complain!
The only way we will ever return is if this buffoon is not there and Angie personally assures us of a decent table. There are far too many good restaurants in the area to consider having another miserable evening caused by incompetency.
We keep this place in mind for special occasions. A previous time we brought some friends to celebrate joint birthdays. Most recently we went there for our anniversary. Upon hearing it was our anniversary they seated us in a cozy corner and brought glasses of Champagne. The service was great and the food was outstanding. What more could one want?
A neighborhood jewel! The wine list was short but very well edited with a nice selection of Old and New World gems. There is a full bar for a pre-meal cocktail if you wish.
Our meal of salmon with cauliflower puree was delicious. We are in the baby boomer set so we do not eat as large as we once did so we often share meals. The note on the menu about not splitting meals means that the kitchen does not split meals. There was nary a raised eyebrow when we asked the one entree to be served with a serving spoon and 2 plates for us to serve ourselves.
