Cortez Room - Gold Coast Hotel & Casino - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
A good restaurant. We always come here with a large group after a bowling tournament. The food is still good, but, the increase in price for the ala carte items is annoying. Service and atmosphere are excellent as always. Carl our waiter went above and beyond to meet the needs of 12 (sometimes cranky) senior citizens. When we first started coming it was just my husband and I, then 4 people, then 6 people, and now we're up to 12 people for dinner. Don't know that we will be coming again as my husband felt the value just wasn't there for the price paid.
This is not one of the great steakhouses, but the food was enjoyable, the service attentive, and the room pleasant enough. The dinner rolls prepared and served in a small cast iron fry pan were a nice touch and quite good. So, not itself a destination restaurant, but I'm sure we'll dine there again sometime when at the Gold Coast.
Every time we go there they have "cheapened up"----no more flat breads----now an "Hawaiian roll" . The prime rib portion keeps getting smaller and smaller-------a 50 cent potato is now $6. The place was basically empty------the above tells you why------the "locals" don't even come there anymore ! Some "numbers guy" has it all figured out -----hope they wake up
Well, we've always been very pleased with Cortez Room; however, this time it was trying, maybe because of the server. She was somewhat brusque and didn't seem to be in a good mood. Not very friendly at all. It wasn't that busy at all, and she was not attentive. When ordering in the past, and we've been here several times, our server always let us pay an upcharge so I could get a Caesar salad with my steak. This server said no, it was not possible, I had to get the house salad only. Change in policy, or server not wanting to take care of the customer? Unknown. Then, my wife wanted a salad with the special, which the server said was extra. I asked the server if she could give my wife my house salad and then bring me a Caesar, which I would gladly pay for. She seemed annoyed that I asked at all, shook her head, and sighed: "OK, I'll do that". Huh??? Strange, because our customer service here has always been wonderful and amazing. This time? Meh.... Ruined the dining experience for both me and my wife....
We've always been pleased in the past and the food was very good; however, not sure I ever want that server again.
My son had recommended this restaurant to me and we had never heard of it. This place was as good as he said and we are sorry we did not know about this place sooner. It is really great not to be known by many. We will go again, but we heard they may close the place and refurbish it and rename it because it is just not that popular. Sad, but true being off of the main drag. Hopefully, they will maintain the excellence in their food and service if they do close and reopen.
This is a fantastic find in Vegas! The restaurant was very quiet and cozy. We had the prime rib and it was PERFECT. It was one of the best I have ever had. I also had the creamed spinach, which was divine. The prices were modest compared to Las Vegas standards. We will definitely go back the next time we are in town.

I was referred to the Cortez Room at the Gold Coast Hotel by a Vegas local. If you are looking for a nice reasonably priced prime rib, this is the place. The salad comes with the meal and it was okay. The side dishes were good but the prime rib was excellent. For a Vegas hotel restaurant, we found it to be a great find. The service was very good and the creme brulee was a great end to a quiet dinner
We were very please with out entire evening. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and is nice and quiet which was great as we were able to enjoy our dinner and have a conversation without out loud, blasting music. The service and the food were incredible !! Everything was top notch and we will definitely return. This would be a lovely place for a Romantic dinner or any Special Occasion !!
Food was good the prime rib is delicious. Have been coming here for many years. In 2015 and the past many years would have the prime rib and a side salad and choice of potato was the meal for $29. Now they have the prime rib and side salad is included for $28. Had to pay $5 for the baked sweet potato. So $15 additional for the 3 of us.
The service was very sad. In the past when coming here they had a delicious sourdough bread now they have little rolls in a hot skillet. It was alright. The service before each time I came was 5 Star. Tonight felt like I was in a Denny's. Brought friends who just moved to Vegas wanted to show them this great place that has a great atmosphere, awesome service, delicious food at a fair price. When my friends said $5 for a potato? I told them it was worth it. Sorry $5 for that is not. I paid it because I wanted them to have a great meal like I had before. Was I wrong.
Our drinks in the past were never empty. Well we had to ask to get a refill several times. Server never came by to check to see if the meal is good, bad or whatever. That was through the entire meal.
At the end we are still having fun talking. He brings the check without a check book, and gives us someone else cash change in another book he leaves on the table.
Give the credit card and return with paper receipt and no check book. Signed the credit card and have it in table. We are still there talking and enjoying company. He picks up the credit card receipt from us right after signed it. He wasn't leaving yet he was taking an order from the next table. What poor service.
We were going to give at least 15% on bill which would have been $20. With the quick brush off from the credit card and bad service all night we just gave $5. Now normally we tip min 15% . Embarrassed that the extra prices for potato, asking to have drinks refilled, server don't care about us. We left only $5.
Most likely will never go back there again.
Horrible service. It took 15 mins. from the time we ordered our drinks til we got them.(our salads arrived first) My chicken was like cardboard. I sent it back & got salmon. It was okay. My husband's shrimp was overcooked but edible. The waitress apologized & said they would "comp" our salads. 2 salads @ 4.00 a piece. When our bill came they had not charged for the salads, our 2 cocktails & 1 coffee. What would have been a hundred dollar plus tab cost us about 80.00, but it still was not worth it. We will not return & have told friends & family about our experience. Hope you pass this on to the Cortez Room.
Visited the Cortez room on 2/15/2016, for a late Valentines Dinner with my Bowling team and our spouses. the Food was outstanding and so was the price. For the past 6 years, we would visit the Prime Rib Loft at the Orleans, but decided to give the Cortez Room a try, and were all glad that we did.
All comments from the group gave this eatery a thumbs up.
This was not our first visit to The Cortez Room and it will not be our last visit! We chose to celebrate Valentine's Day at The Cortez Room because we knew that we were going to have a wonderful meal and great service! The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing for an upscale restaurant. There were four of us and we all had the Filet with roasted garlic and baked potato. The filet's were prepared as ordered and the baked potatoes were quite large and wonderfully tasty! The pull-apart bread was also wonderful! And the ladies enjoyed the Creme Brulee for desert! They both said it was the best that they have had! We will be looking forward to dining there again when we return in a few months! And the two ladies in the group were surprised with boxes of candy at the end of the meal. What a pleasant surprise! This restaurant is a hidden gem in Las Vegas!!
I have been eating at the Cortex Room for years and really enjoyed all aspects. When we ate there on Valentines day we were shocked to see the prices had increased while both the portions and quality significantly decreased. This is true for the apertizer, entree and desert. Don't think I'll return anytime soon.
We had a wonderful Valentine's Day dinner. The steaks were perfectly cooked, the service was great, very attentive! To my surprise they also gave me a wonderful box of chocolates and a rose. We have been here several times and never had a bad experience. Highly recommend, and not overpriced like strip properties.
I'll admit that we chose the Cortez Room based solely on the fact that we were staying in the hotel where the restaurant is located AND received a discount. The food was simply - adequate. Nothing outstanding. Most of the things we ordered (steak) were overcooked and not very tender. I would've given the benefit of the doubt if it were just one meal, but all of the meals in our party were similarly affected. Fool me once, shame on you.
I've been coming to the Cortez Room for approximately 15 years. It's been two years since my last visit and I was looking forward to the well known Prime Rib special. Much to my disappointment the "Queen/King" cut specials have been discontinued as well as the bruschetta appetizer. I ordered the prime rib anyway but it didn't meet the same standards I was used to. I probably won't be back.
As Las Vegas locals, my wife and I have been to the Cortez Room on several occasions. Nice atmosphere, attentive service, good food, and fair prices. On Sat 2/6/16 we took our visiting niece and nephew. We were promptly seated, but unfortunately, it was next to a very loud, vocal group of about six men seated at a round table near the center of the room. At times they were actually shouting at each other. Reminded me of inconsiderate teenagers. As the server and his assistant attended us, the loudness continued at such a high level that our party needed to speak in a loud, uncomfortable voice just to be heard at our table. Excessively annoying and disturbing! The server took no action to quiet the men. After about 30 minutes I decided to ask the server for help. He agreed and said that he would notify the manager. The manager appeared only after at least another ten minutes or more of loud, shouting talk. He proceeded to casually walk around the room, distant from the offending table, but never said anything. The group then ended their meal and began to disburse. After we finished our meal I spoke with the manager and expressed my unhappiness with him and our server for their lack of action. He listened attentively and was polite. He said the group was a regular, he knew them, and apologized. I chose not to tell him how to run his restaurant, but it is my opinion that since he knew them, he should have seated them other than in the middle of the room. He then made a vague attempt to reward us somehow on a return trip (I had already paid the bill). In as much as I had already ruled out a return visit, I passed on that. I have since lost the name of the manager or server, but I’m sure they are available in the restaurant records.
This has been a regular for us for many years. Always consistently great prime rib. This time was a big disappointment. They have changed their menu and there is no longer a Prime Rib Dinner. Just prime rib and everything else is extra. Fine. The prim rib is worth it. Not any more. My wife ordered medium well and the obviously had to micro wave a medium rare one to bring up to medium well. It was a dried out piece of .... She couldn't eat it. Mine cam cooked as ordered but no flavour. Sorry but we enter be back.
the food was excellent as was the service, however, we were disappointed that soups, salads, extras, were now considered as appetizers and there were extra charges for these items when before they were INCLUDED with the meal. I don't consider soups, salads, baked potatoes as appetizers. We were a little bit disappointed with that change BUT the food was very good and the service was also very good. We would go again. I also appreciated the online rez option. When we got to our room at the Gold Coast, I called to confirm our rez and the hostess, Mary Beth, greeted me as good evening Ms. Rowles before I even asked and she confirmed the rez. That was a nice added touch as well. Thank you.
We've dined at The Cortez Room several times but our last visit there may be exactly that. The first thing we noticed was that all items on the menu are now a la carte. Previously, dinners included a salad & potato. The delicious Steak Diane (which had been listed as a house specialty) is no longer available along with the french onion soup. The excellent bruschetta that was served with a basket of bread & crackers is gone & has been replaced with some tasteless rolls served in a small skillet. Don't waste your time or money on this mediocre restaurant.
