Corner Social Ratings and Reviews
It was my birthday and a few of my friends came to celebrate with me. ( i celebrated my bday here a few years ago as well). The bartender, Jay made it extra special with tending to myself and party. Made sure we were drinking water with all the alcohol we consumed. Hennesy was giving out shots of mixed drinks we ended up purchasing and the dj was on point.
I arrived at Corner Social 15mins early. My reservation was booked for 5pm. I was not allowed to sit at a table until 5pm came. The kitchen was closed until 5pm. The only option giving was to stand at a crowded bar. Just squeeze in there somewhere. Get it togther people..
arrived within the 15-minute grace period for my 4:00 reservation only to be told that the kitchen closed a few minutes before 4:00. Mmmkay, then why accept reservations for that time?
The hostess said she meant to call to let us know, but she would hold a table for us for 5:00 when the kitchen re-opened. We returned at 5:00, the earlier hostess was preparing to leave, didn't acknowledge us or, apprently, leave a note for the new hostess. After explaining what happened, we were seated.
There were several delays - the waitress coming to take our order, the drinks coming to the table, and my meal. But she was quick to bring the menu for additional items to be ordered and to bring the bill.
Some people in my group ordered appetizers only, others ordered an appetizer and an entree, I ordered an entree only. After waiting more than 30 minutes and asking about my meal, the waitress explained she "coursed" the order, so my meal would be out when the other entrees we brought to the table. What?! Why no ask me if I'm OK with that? Normally, I would be, but since the restaurant pushed out our resevation by an hour, I was very hungry and frustrated.
When we asked the waitress if she could split the bill, she said she couldn't remember who had what and would just bring us a pen to do it ourselves. Seriously?
All this and the noise level was loud enough to be a day party. I'm not going back.
I planned a birthday lunch for two 92 year olds who came with walkers and cane and came late. The staff was most accommodating and patient. The food was a hit. I enjoyed the fish filet and the garlic spinach. If you want a quiet conversation, this is not the place to go, but if you want to people watch, have a relaxed meal, you're on.
Corner Social is a great neighborhood gem. It is very lively and has a great dj almost every night. The happy hour includes a decent Malbec and Pinot Grigio as well as good on tap beer options. The food itself is wonderful. My friends are foodies and enjoyed everything they ordered. It is a very popular location, and that means that sometimes the service may be a little slow, but that shouldn't ruin your evening.
I love this place especially when Cesar is bartending. I wish they would bring back some of the old apps like fried mac & cheese and cheeseburger spring rolls. The hostess was a bit abrupt and dry with her welcome but our waitress made up for it amazingly unfortunately I can't remember her name.
It's too bad that corner social has to have the music at a volume louder than most clubs. This is the 2nd time I've gone there only to have to sit outside: once in summer heat wave and recently in the colder weather covered in hats and jackets. I've spoken to so many people in my building and the neighborhood who entirely agree. The food is quite good and the value is great. The interior is nice and could be a pleasant place to eat and talk with friends - rather than scream and quickly scarf food to get out of the chaos.
We went there with friends because it was located near the Apollo Theatre where we were headed for a concert. The music was deafening, so it was difficult to carry on any conversation, plus the live sports on big screen TVs were distracting. We got that it was a casual place, and it was obviously popular, however. The calemari appetizer was delicious, and we all enjoyed our meals, but it was not the most comfortable venue for us.
After a hardworking day, it was a pleasure to have dinner with my girlfriends at a true Harlem gem. This restaurant and lounge was wonderful. I loved the food, music, atmosphere, cocktails, and the array of beautiful people. Our server was such a gracious, warm, and pleasant young lady. She never hesitated to see to it we had all that we needed. She was very accommodating and sweet. A good time was had by all!! We will certainly be back!
I met with a potential client for the consultation, we were initially seated outside, service was good, waitress came around gave drinks, came back and asked us if we wanted to order, we did, we ordered salads of which I don't think was worth $16 each. We had lemonade, the glasses were small, eventually we moved inside because it started to rain, the waitress came back around asking if we wanted dessert, we said yes, the deserts are all $9 ! I couldn't believe the prices. I would honestly go back if someone else was paying, not worth the money.
The food made for a great dining experience however the wait for a table was extremely long even with a reservation. We had a reservation for 9pm on a Saturday night and did not get seated until 9:45pm which in my opinion is unacceptable. I understand a 15- 20 minute wait to allow for overflow but 45 min is excessive and completely negates the point of making a reservation. The front staff was seemingly overwhelmed and moderately helpful at best informing us that our table would be available in a matter of minutes when they knew that wasn't the case. Thankfully we weren't in a major rush so once we finally did sit we were able to fully enjoy ourselves but not without being slightly annoyed in the beginning.
Overall it was a good time but they need to work on the front of house.
Service - Great.
Wings - Awesome.
2015 Winter Menu - WACK!!! The menu on the website was not updated, so we went thinking we were about to grub on some down home favorites. Seems like someone ordered a season's worth of shiitake mushrooms because they were with EVERY SINGLE ENTRÉE. Finished the wings and went to Streetbird. I'll likely return to Corner Social to try again for either brunch or to hangout in the summer.
We had a party of 5 and had a blast. The wait staff were great in recommending a good beer. The food was delicious--wings, turkey burgers, etc. Portions were gigantic, and we needed some doggy bags. We were able to talk about some sensitive stuff as the noise level was so high no one else would have heard us. That is both a plus and a minus..
Reservations are not needed, but this place gets pretty crowded. The menu changes every so often, so don't go by what is posted on the website. Overall, the food is pretty good. The drinks vary in strength, I guess it depends on the bartender. Overall, I've been here on several occasions both for a dinner for two and with a group, and a pleasant experience was had by all.
