Friendly staff, small and cosy dining room, food was excellent, however portions are quite small, we had 6 plates to share and a desert afterward and did not feel full.
I had been to the Corner Room about a year ago, and I guess the management has changed since then because it was a completely different experience. Before they used to have wonderful cocktails, but this time around when I asked the waitress why the cocktails were not on the menu she gave me a reply that did not make any sense. She said "we do not have a bar tender, so we have to make the cocktails, if you don't mind, and that is why they are not in the menu". I was like, "what??". So, the menu had only two mains, fish and pork, which is fine, but when the time to order arrived the waitress announced the cod was finished, so the only choice left was pork. It was 8pm, how is it possible to finish all the fish my 8pm? Who ate it, given that the restaurant was not even full? The dessert was a disaster. It was supposed to be something like "grilled apricot and fig leaf ice cream". Well, the apricots were completely raw, maybe only a bit warm, certainly not grilled. And they were so sour they were not even edible. After we complained the waitress was kind enough to take the dessert out of the bill, but the overall experience was rather poor. And it is such a pity, it used to be a wonderful place.
Great food. Small portions though, not really cheap. But food is good quality and tastes great.
Smaller plates meant that the four of us got to try a lot of interesting little morsels from the chef. Despite the focus being on having a few more small dishes instead of one or two larger ones, we all left feeling satisfied. Must say that the cherry/meringue dessert was a big hit and we had to order another bowl for the table as it vanished too quickly. The restaurant was decorated with some very impressive foliage as part of a special few weeks display. This really impressed us and made the meal quite memorable
This is fast becoming my favourite restaurant in London. The quality of ingredients, presentation and balance of flavours is outstanding and the staff are delightful and very proud of their chef. It is obviously a very happy ship!
Quaint restaurant hidden away in bethnal green in a retro art deco styled hotel.Very impressive
We visited the Corner Room after a Sunday morning at Columbia Road market. The food we had was excellent, great ingredients and very well prepared. We had the brunch menu which was a little limited but everything we had was good. The Corner Room is a great find and we will definitely return
We shared six of the small plates which, with desert, was adequate for the both of us. A great selection of creative and seasonal food beautifully presented.
Great personalised service from the whole team.
Would highly recommend!
Excellent food and service, absolutely loved it.
Nice atmosphere. Pricey food in small portions. Wouldn’t go back :(
Another fabulous evening at Corner Room - delicious tapas style dishes, perfect for a special occasion.
I booked the special offer of 20% off the brunch through opentable.co.uk, but was disappointed to see that it didn't appear on my bill. That said the bill was very reasonable anyway.
I have been to the Corner Room on a few occasions, only ever with one other person. It is an intimate setting but does cater for groups although the acoustics are not great when there are a lot of people talking loudly. The food is exceptional and the service just at the right level of attentiveness. On my most recent visit the staff went out of their way to accommodate my friend’s requirement for dairy free and when her choice of wine wasn’t available gave her a complimentary glass of the best match (a more expensive option) as well as taking the price of my drink off the bill.
I wanted to love Corner Room (especially because I very much love the Typing Room), but actually, I only just liked it. Flavours across everything I tried were amazing - but detail around texture, less so. Linguine with crab tasted scrumptious, creamy, and fresh, but annoying pieces of shell grated against my teeth three or four times. In the same way, steak was flavoursome and well cooked, but gristly and fatty to the point of having leave a large portion of it (and yes, I know you're supposed to generally eat the fat, but not when chewing it in company becomes a visible effort). The star of the meal, absolutely stellar, was a creamy, crunchy, tangy and lush concoction which includes meringue and crème fraiche, and flavours of lemon and coffee. If you think these clash, the do indeed - beautifully and boldly. I could have eaten two portions of this. In summary: amazing flavours, but some eye to texture and detail (such as shells in the crab sauce) would make this place all around fantastic.
This was our first time at Corner Room - we made a last minute booking and turned up 20 minutes later! The food was delicious and we shared a series of dishes between us. Fantastic, friendly service in a great setting. Plus we had booked a deal which was extremely good value!
We had dinner with a special offer of 3 courses + drink for £30 and it was really good value for money. The ambience is very pleasant, the service is good and the food is very good. All dishes are very-well designed and prepared with excellent ingredient. The style is modern with a Spanish touch. I will surely repeat the experience.
The food was excellent. Mostly loved the decor though, small room with a few tables. Went when the sun was shining and the whole room lit up, quite a beautiful setting! The veggie breakfast was perfect, portion was good. The cornish crab benedict however could have been a bit bigger (perhaps accompanied with a small side salad or so). All in all fantastic brunch experience!
The food was tasty. The service was earnest, but our server barely spoke or understood English. This caused needless confusion, and an overcharge for a dessert that was supposed to be included in the prix fixe dinner.
Lovely restaurant in a lovely hotel. Food great.
Enjoyed our time here, it’s a very nice hotel and the service was very good from the waiters, although the manager seemed a bit flaily. Had a really nice old fashioned, but they didn’t mix the second so it was really strong and then really sweet later.
Food was very tasty, tiny portions but I don’t like to over eat anyway!
Would come back.
Fantastic experience all round. Food was simply excellent. Will be heading back soon!
A tiny spot off the beaten path, the Corner Room delivers a warm intimate ambiance with delicious food and lovely service to back it up. The restaurant is a bit on the pricier side, however I would definitely say it was worth every penny. I enjoyed dinner with a girlfriend there. We opted to split three small plates, an entree and a side. It was the perfect amount of food. Highly recommend!
Stunning food, great atmosphere. A strongly recommended cozy restaurant.
Very tasty interesting food, well prepared and presented. Well above average cooking.
Our only problem was we were the only ones in the restaurant all evening on. Thursday.
Took my husband for a birthday date, it was a Sunday night so quiet, but perfect night out. Delicious food, beautifully presented, very friendly service...will definitely return and would recommend.
Overpriced, small portions. Steak was not great quality for the price.
Culinary skills was good but not memorable. Servers were more interested at sitting at the welcome station rather than being present and attentive in the dining room
Shame as I’d love to find another regular restaurant locally
One of the best meals I've had in a long time - the ambiance is spot on and the food is superb. We ordered a variety of small dishes and struggled to pick one that was our favourite, they were all so good.
Dissapointing food, bland and poor value for money. I was told it was fully booked when I reserved and i couldn’t get a later table; when I left after dining the restaurant was under a quarter full with many empty tables
Amazing as always. Elegant and unexpected flavours. Nice ambience for a date or special occasion.
Sadly, we haven't been too impressed :( Visited on the 28th of December for dinner. Service was nice but slow. The drinks were already not the best, a flat glass of champagne that I had to ask to be replaced and a basic unadorned gin&tonic in a small tumbler.
The food sounded interesting, we tried the sirloin and a roast goose with grilled broccoli and potatoes on the side. Unfortunately the beef was way too fatty, the broccoli chewy, and none of the plates was anything special.
True, the restaurant is not a very expensive one, but based on the reviews and the style of menu we expected much more.
Had an excellent meal at The Corner Room! The menu is simple, concise and well priced. The food is unassumingly delicious. Everything that we had felt like it came out of a one-star kitchen. The service is attentive and friendly. Excellent spot for a first date.
Very nice restaurant. deserve to get a 5 score. food was perfect, empolyee was very kind
Town Hall is rather a strange place - it feels more like an institution than a hotel and is very easy to get lost in. The Corner Room is as the name suggests, tucked away in a quiet corner of the first floor where at least two wedding receptions seemed to be going on in separate suites. (They didn't impinge on our evening at all.) We weren't sure what to expect as we'd chosen the restaurant mainly on the basis that it was near St John's Church where we were going to see a band. It was our lucky day - the food was exceptional. The menu changes daily, apparently, but we chose five sharing plates: Morecambe Bay prawns with 'monk's beard', cod cheeks with lemon and capers and a rich potato (and truffle?) purée, pressed pig's cheek with cuttlefish and chorizo, aged beef tartare with Jerusalem artichoke crisps and a Vacherin fondue with grilled cabbage leaves. It's also possible to have one of the sharing plates per person as a starter then have one of the four or five main courses on offer. I noticed these included rabbit Wellington. The sourdough bread was excellent - we ordered more out of pure greed. The service was warm and attentive. The restaurant is quite small so booking is probably essential unless you're eating very early (as we were). On the way out we bumped into an acquaintance from West London (like us) who had made the trip across town especially and was as impressed as we were by the food.
Pre event dinner at Corner Room. Really excellent food and very good service. Nice simple choices of food and wines. Dishes unusual in combination of ingredients but it all works extremely well. I would definitely go again if in the area.
My husband has complicated dietary requirements and the lovely staff could not do enough to assist and make sure he was happy. When the dessert menu came and there was nothing on it he could have, they made special arrangements to find him something else so he was not left out. The food had some really interesting combinations. It was a really special evening and the staff were all outstanding.
Corner Room is a hidden gem in London’s up and coming Bethnal Green area. The food it exquisite and reasonably priced too and the service was excellent! Great for a special occasion and for small groups too. We would definitely dine there again and recommend it to others too.
Had a very nice meal at Corner Room, hadn't been since it first opened so it was a real treat! Great friendly service and delicious, fresh and interesting food. We shared five starters between two of us so got to try lots of things! Would highly recommend!
Good and value for money restaurant. Good and efficient service too, recommended.
Such lovely food and great service. Lunch small plates are reasonable and sooooo delicious. Langostina and chicken liver mousse to name my favs.
