Core Kitchen and Wine Bar at The Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain Ratings and Reviews
Had a later dinner and although restaurant was moderately busy, it was certainly not packed. EVERYTHING was so slow! Twenty-five minutes for first drinks, forty-five minutes for appetizer and well over an hour for entrees. Though we didn’t complain, manager did come over and apologize and bought us our second round of drinks. Food was ok, but not great. This Ritz Carlton was a little remote, so was disappointed we didn’t have a better overall experience since options were obviously limited.
Most of the food was adequate to good, although frankly not as good as Primo's at the JW Marriott, where we usually went to celebrate occasions when we lived on the West side. We had hoped to find equal quality here in Oro Valley. But unfortunately, the birthday boy's food was disappointing. The crab cake was undercooked and the jambalaya was very skimpy--mostly rice, few mussels. The meal was not worth the price.
Quality of food is inconsistent. And for the money, it shouldn't be. If it were consistently good, we would eat here every week. We live in the Canyon Pass area. So, it's a convenient drive for us.
The service was good. Except our waiter didn't put our bottle of wine on the check. It would've been a much lower tab, if we hadn't caught the error and let our waiter know he had undercharged us by $70.
Absolutely flawless service, food preparation, and quality of food. Joshua, our server, was exceptional, attentive, informative, and witty. The entire staff was on point, elegant, cordial, and engaging. Chef Emily visited our table, which was an added bonus. It’s a celebration dinner we will not forget and we highly recommend this experience to everyone!
The atmosphere is always cordial and relaxing. There is
enough variety on the menu for everyone. My husband and
I are frequent guests and we often entertain our family there,
particularly for breakfast.
We love it at the Ritz.
Hope you stay for a very long time.
Outstandingly prepared fish. Only problem with this place is the location. Dove Mountain is not a short drive from Tucson and a long drive home reduces the enjoyment of the meal. However, if you live in the Dove Mountain area or are staying at The Ritz, then this is a place to go to.
Fantastic! We had the heirloom beet salad with brussel sprout leave, just the right size and crunch--didn't remember how flavorful beets could be, followed by the whole sea bass. The combination of sides, cauliflower and eggplant coulis was perfect with the almonds and hazelnut butter topping. The sea bass itself was boneless and heavenly. We ended with the beignets (5) that came with the perfect complement of maple ice cream and a tube (fun!) of caramel to apply ourselves. It was my birthday so dessert was complimentary. Service was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable, not overbearing. Menu looked expensive, but it was reasonable for top tastes and service on a special occasion.
Have been to Core many times and it is always a home-run. This latest visit included a menu that made it especially difficult to choose an option. Was temped to order the WHOLE thing. Service is special, knowledgable and personal. Special "shout out" to Jennifer that made my evening with my mom extra special. I look forward to coming back.
WOW - this was one of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time. So impressed with the menu and the food was absolutely delicious. Every course was perfection. The bar tender also made the best cocktails. Service was unobtrusive and 1st class! Overall a 10++++.
My wife and I consider the CORE our "go to" place for a special night out. Our most recent visit renewed that feeling. My wife had a pasta dish and I had pork tenderloin. Both were perfectly prepared and delicious.we shared a toffee pudding dessert that should be illegal. It was that good! And kudos to our server Jennifer, who was sweet, attentive, and totally professional in every way. We will, of course, be back!
We had a lovely dinner on the patio. My husband ordered the mushroom pasta and I had the snapper. Of the two, I think the mushroom pasta was the most memorable but they were both very good. Low key, friendly, unobtrusive staff who managed the balance of being available without being too present at our table.
For a highly regarded restaurant, we were disappointed in the service and the quality of some of the dishes that we ordered. On prior occasions, the restaurant was top notch but this time was exceptionally bad. Not sure as to what caused the deterioration in their quality and consistency. Given their prices, this dining experience was most disappointing. I hope this was just one of those bad days that restaurants occasionally encounter when they have service staff shortages or someone from their kitchen staff is off. For sure, if others have disappointing dining experiences going forward, their high rating will drop. I may try them again in the hopes that our experience was just a one-off bad day for them.
When you're just not in the mood to leave the hotel, this is a great option for both indoor and outdoor dinning. The menu is somewhat limited but does change seasonally (chocolate raspberry cake is unfortunately gone!). Started with an excellent buttery Chardonnay by the glass, accompanying a selection of appetizers as I'd had a late lunch. The "Warm skillet corn bread" is an absolute must and easily enough for 3-4, with a pleasant kick to it! The "Wild mushroom soup" was good but needed something to liven it up... rather bland even after ground pepper. The "Seared crab cake(s)" (there was only one) were also just OK... and the accompanying avocado mousse and corn & nopales salsa did nothing to enhance the otherwise somewhat dry crab. A better choice would have been a beurre blanc or some kind of local chipotle or ancho chili sauce. I didn't progress to the heavier main entrees. And the dessert I was thinking of to accompany a nice glass of Malbec to finish off the meal had just been taken off the menu... no chocolate in sight! In summary a good in house option... but with unfortunately only the corn bread being a real stand out of the evening.
I made reservations for my daughter's birthday celebration, the food was awesome. We really enjoyed sitting on the patio, though, it was a bit dark. We appreciated the quiet but understand that Tuesday evening before winter visitors arrive is probably a slow night.
The Core Kitchen and Bar at the Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain is a great restaurant for a special occasion. We were celebrating our 50th anniversary and our server, Joe, was most accommodating of any question or request we had. My husband enjoyed his bacon-wrapped filet mignon. I wasn't familiar with barramundi, and Joe did a very good job explaining that it is similar to sea bass. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner. The prices are a little high, but for a special occasion, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Core.
Food was ok. Very overpriced. Have been to Core for dinner in past years and was much better. Very disappointed. Heirloom tomato salad was the only really good thing. Barramundi was just ok. Jambalaya was sub-par. My friend said the chicken was really good. Next time we will venture out for dinner.
Emily the Executive Chef might be one of the nicest individuals we've ever encountered. Her menu is phenomenal and her service made our weekend fantastic. Emily and her staff embody the spirit of the Ritz-Carlton in everything that they do. Every interaction, every presentation, every touch -- perfect.
Brandon (Bartender) and Sarah (Sommelier) were fantastic. Brandon's hand crafted cocktails (and mocktails!) were some of the best we've had at any Ritz property. Sarah met us each evening and paired wines with our dinners (without prompting!). Their attention to detail and service were amazing.
The entire staff truly made us feel like special guests all weekend.
I highly recommend this restaurant to any and all visitors to the Tuscon area.
