Core Kitchen and Wine Bar at The Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain Ratings and Reviews
We had a lovely dinner on the patio. My husband ordered the mushroom pasta and I had the snapper. Of the two, I think the mushroom pasta was the most memorable but they were both very good. Low key, friendly, unobtrusive staff who managed the balance of being available without being too present at our table.
For a highly regarded restaurant, we were disappointed in the service and the quality of some of the dishes that we ordered. On prior occasions, the restaurant was top notch but this time was exceptionally bad. Not sure as to what caused the deterioration in their quality and consistency. Given their prices, this dining experience was most disappointing. I hope this was just one of those bad days that restaurants occasionally encounter when they have service staff shortages or someone from their kitchen staff is off. For sure, if others have disappointing dining experiences going forward, their high rating will drop. I may try them again in the hopes that our experience was just a one-off bad day for them.
When you're just not in the mood to leave the hotel, this is a great option for both indoor and outdoor dinning. The menu is somewhat limited but does change seasonally (chocolate raspberry cake is unfortunately gone!). Started with an excellent buttery Chardonnay by the glass, accompanying a selection of appetizers as I'd had a late lunch. The "Warm skillet corn bread" is an absolute must and easily enough for 3-4, with a pleasant kick to it! The "Wild mushroom soup" was good but needed something to liven it up... rather bland even after ground pepper. The "Seared crab cake(s)" (there was only one) were also just OK... and the accompanying avocado mousse and corn & nopales salsa did nothing to enhance the otherwise somewhat dry crab. A better choice would have been a beurre blanc or some kind of local chipotle or ancho chili sauce. I didn't progress to the heavier main entrees. And the dessert I was thinking of to accompany a nice glass of Malbec to finish off the meal had just been taken off the menu... no chocolate in sight! In summary a good in house option... but with unfortunately only the corn bread being a real stand out of the evening.
I made reservations for my daughter's birthday celebration, the food was awesome. We really enjoyed sitting on the patio, though, it was a bit dark. We appreciated the quiet but understand that Tuesday evening before winter visitors arrive is probably a slow night.
The Core Kitchen and Bar at the Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain is a great restaurant for a special occasion. We were celebrating our 50th anniversary and our server, Joe, was most accommodating of any question or request we had. My husband enjoyed his bacon-wrapped filet mignon. I wasn't familiar with barramundi, and Joe did a very good job explaining that it is similar to sea bass. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner. The prices are a little high, but for a special occasion, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Core.
Food was ok. Very overpriced. Have been to Core for dinner in past years and was much better. Very disappointed. Heirloom tomato salad was the only really good thing. Barramundi was just ok. Jambalaya was sub-par. My friend said the chicken was really good. Next time we will venture out for dinner.
Emily the Executive Chef might be one of the nicest individuals we've ever encountered. Her menu is phenomenal and her service made our weekend fantastic. Emily and her staff embody the spirit of the Ritz-Carlton in everything that they do. Every interaction, every presentation, every touch -- perfect.
Brandon (Bartender) and Sarah (Sommelier) were fantastic. Brandon's hand crafted cocktails (and mocktails!) were some of the best we've had at any Ritz property. Sarah met us each evening and paired wines with our dinners (without prompting!). Their attention to detail and service were amazing.
The entire staff truly made us feel like special guests all weekend.
I highly recommend this restaurant to any and all visitors to the Tuscon area.
My husband and I celebrated our friend's anniversary at Core and had the loveliest time. Our server Alyssa was just outstanding, attentive and her service was impeccable. The food was outstanding - the mac and cheese is probably one of the best I've tasted. Overall, we had a fabulous experience and can't wait to go back!
We were expecting more from the signature restaurant at the Ritz. The service was poor. They did not understand the menu. They were very inattentive. The service was also very slow. This was made more evident because the restaurant was very empty and not busy. The food was average. And was very over priced. Overall, a very disappointing experience. Also manage not available to listen to our concerns. We love Dove mountain, but will not be going back to Core.
The food and service were fantastic as usual. I highly recommend the fried lobster appetizer. We had the salmon and the jumbalaya, both were perfect. We had a bit of a problem when they served cold coffee with dessert, but the staff made a great recovery with a quick batch of French Press.
A great ending, after a rocky start.
We had reservations for our 30th wedding anniversary. The restaurant called the day before the event to tell me they were cancelling, they sold out the restaurant to a party staying at the hotel.
To make amends they offered a comp'd meal later in the week.
We took them up on their offer- the food was outstanding, the server was friendly and fun to be around and we had no bill - all and all, a great evening.
The upscale restaurant was very disappointing as we were celebrating our anniversary. The service was fine but the food was not. I ordered the French fried lobster. The lobster was tough with no flavor. I could only eat one. My husband's jambalaya was mostly rice and dry. Our server returned the food to the kitchen and comped the bill. That was very professional but we would have preferred a delicious dinner. For breakfast the next morning I ordered Eggs Benedict which were very good but it took 30 minutes to get the order to me. It was not a good experience at the restaurant but you are a captive audience at the hotel.
We treated friends to dinner, and our choice of Core was perfect. Our previous visit some years ago was very disappointing, so we hesitated a bit, but the other Open Table reviews convinced us to go. And we're glad we did.
What an amazing meal! We split the Avocado Tartare and Pork Belly Tostada to start. Both excellent. For entrees, I had the Cast Iron Jambalaya, my wife had the Rack of Lamb, and the other couple had the Casareccia Pasta with Scallops and the Rib Eye. We shared a bite of each...all of it was flavorful, cooked perfectly, nicely presented...fantastic!
Did I mention the view? We sat on the patio in the shade. The early evening sun lit up the rocks and Saguaro cactus on the nearby hillside. The temperature was about 80...absolutely perfect in the desert.
We'll be going back again, but we won't wait years this time. If you go, plan to arrive about 45 minutes before dinner. Grab a cocktail on the pool patio, enjoy the scenery and the Native American flute player in the distance. I can't imaging it can get any better than the beautiful ambiance and fantastic dinner we had with our friends.
Its alway a bummer when the table next to you, whom was seated AFTER you... gets their food first and finishes their meal before you get yours. We were a party of 3 and they were a party of 2, not sure that was the deal breaker. We found out that we ordered off an "old" menu only to find out that they no longer had the ingredients for the appetizer (they did bring a substitute but with random ingredients which was nice but nothing near what we had ordered). There was an apology and the server was nice. But, it was an hour after our reservation before our meal arrived. We HATE having to ask where our food is and for our water glasses to be refilled, yet that is how we passed the time. Needless to say, my husband didn't like his steak (not a good quality), my fish was cold (not sure it was supposed to be that way) and well, our daughter liked her salmon. Do not order the side of mushrooms cause it was really, really salty and bad. Again, our server was nice and it was evident that they had some new employees. Either way, we cancelled our reservation for another night during our stay as this did not need a repeat.
The restaurant is nice and quiet - just the way we like it. The muchroom pasta dish we ordered was tasty and fragranted with the truffle oil , but over salted, and some of the dry mushrooms were sandy, due to not totally soaked out and cleaned. However, the scallops were perfectly cooked medium rare. The brunzino was fresh, could be a little bigger filet, and more of the accompany veggie, the plate looked kind of lonely.
Our server was a very nice, accomodating young lady, who apparently knows her job well.
We did enjoyed the evening, and will return again. We hope that some of the suggestions will be taken to heart.
This was our tenth and last visit to Core. The experience from start to finish was just terrible. The kitchen timing was off, water glasses continuously unfilled, food mediocre at best. Not sure what has happened to this once stellar restaurant but its a shame, and one I won't be paying >$200 again to experience.
