Coquette Cafe closed-out of business-and Open Table failed to notify me. 6:45 PM on Saturday night and no reservation. Disappointing on all fronts.
They are closed! Do not make reservations with open table, because they are closed
There's parking right behind Coquette Café on weekends - I wish we had known ahead of time, but we'll certainly use it next time !
Overall this is a very good restaurant, I have been here many times, but this wasn't one of their best. Had the special, salmon cakes and although they looked good they were dry as corn meal and no flavor. The beet salad was also dry, with almost no dressing. Since I previously have had great meals here I will be back.
Good service and cozy place but pumpkin ravioli was over cooked and trout had a sauce that WAY overpowered the mild trout.
Always a culinary delight, especially the escargot and the French onion soup. I personally would like a trout sauce that was a bit lighter in color and flavor, but at the same time, I always order it because I love a French prepared trout. The desserts are generous and fabulous. The atmosphere is perfect, and our favorite waitstaff is always there ready, to please and professional.
Very nice as usual
The sad story is that this terrific third ward restaurant has closed. After many years of dining at Coquette, I can truly say I never had a bad dinner served to me or any of my guests at the table. Bon Chance
Went for early dinner on Valentine's Day so it was still quiet when we got there but kept hearing the hostess say they had no seating until 8:30 with the restaurant closing at 9. Coquette is our favorite place to go for that "special dinner" and they did not disappoint. I had Pork Loin with asparagus & fingerling potatoes; it had a lemon garlic sauce that made the food sparkle and the presentation was perfect. My husband had boeuf bourguignon a la Julia Child; I'm sure Julia was pleased. He said the beef was extremely tender and the sauce was the perfect balance of ingredients. For dessert, we split what was listed as a flourless chocolate cake but this was not like any flourless cake I have ever had. It had the deep, dense dark chocolate but it was almost like an outer shell. Because inside was this smooth, velvety chocolate yumminess. It wasn't thin enough to be like a lava cake filling but definitely not the normal findings for flourless cake. It was absolutely amazing. Especially when topped off with good coffee and cognac or a good specialty coffee. Can't let this review go without commenting on the wait staff. It's easy to be attentive and charming when the evening is just starting. But as our server got more and more tables to work she never missed a bet and was always gracious. She also knew the difference between being attentive and hovering.
Perfect Valentine’s Day
Excellent service, food good, atmosphere very nice
A nice spot for a memorable Valentine's Day date. I was able to make a reservation fairly late in game (thankfully!) and the food was terrific, service was good (had to wait a long time for our check, the only negative). We had the fixed price menu, which was a nice bargain, and the food delicious. We will be back.
Great food and service.
We go there for Valentine’s Day every year. It is always a wonderful experience.
This café is the real deal and has an excellent chef! Food is authentic and Bill at the bar is an awesome bar tender!
We have been going to CC since it opened and have never had a bad meal or bad services.
Outstanding French food. Ambience was outstanding. Service was great
We had a lovely Sunday lunch. Everyone enjoyed their food. I would especially recommend the French Toast, the brussels sprouts and the beet salad. I had ordered the smoked salmon eggs benedict but found it too salty - not unusual for smoked salmon - and there wasn't even a hint of trouble when I asked for something else. I would highly recommend this restaurant for the good food and the gracious service.
Had not been to CC in many years but always had fond memories of the atmosphere and the food. We were looking forward to celebrating my birthday but left very disappointed with our meal. Did not feel it was the same quality as we remembered. Caesar Salad included on online menu not available, sausage on flat bread pizza was way too spicy, dessert special not available (chocolate tart) and hanger steak with frittes had way too much sauce. Wait staff was friendly and atmosphere still nice.
Consistantly good French food and attentive service.
Our favorite French restaurant in Milwaukee. Our server handled our lunch perfectly, not intrusive and checked on us just as the right times.
Went for a business lunch - very attentive waiter - good food - nice ambiance.
Great atmosphere on a quiet, snowy Sunday morning. Excellent, classical French fare in warm surroundings. Will definitely be back!
This is a lovely restaurant with a European flair. The food is always delicious and our service was attentive and professional.
We been here several. The food is always awesome and the prices are very reasonable. Best French food in Milwaukee.
Coquette is one of our favorites and the service is always excellent. The food can vary depending on the day and unfortunately my flank stank was luke warm and my frittes were cold. I did send the fries back and our server promptly delivered hot fries but I really hate sending food back to the kitchen! Won't stop me from coming back for our favorites..the great bread and butter, onion soup, amazing salads and entrees.
as always excellent food and service. I would like a bit more selection on the such as duck or game like venison. In Europe wild boar is one my most liked meals. Turbo fish likewise is hard to find. One of these times I have got to try the meatloaf however meatloaf in a good French cafe somehow gives me a mental block out. Meat loaf seems to common. But based on your reviews seems to be well received. How about frog legs, leg of lamb even rabbit. Thanks for a great night. Arno Jacobsen
Always excellent service. Onion soup is superb.
It was fine
It had a nice Euro feel and that aligned with the dishes. We came here for brunch & the brunch selection was fair. Nothing spectacular, but a reasonable value.
Coffee and cranberry juice, 2 eggplant casseroles and a bit of key lime pie and you have the makings of a very nice pre-MSO dinner. Good service, too!
It was better than expected. The ambience was very nice and service was great (though I didn't get my wine until my dinner was done, but they recognized error and didn't charge me for it). Food was very good with decent French fare that's affordable. Like the casual atmosphere (not jeans/shorts casual, but just easy going). Had a great dinner
Best creme brûlée in the city!
A friend’s birthday lunch!
Consistently good. Good food, service, and clearly management.
Coquette Cafe is a solid place to go to for a good meal. Service is good as well. My only complaint was that it was quite cold where we were sitting. I could have sat with my coat on the entire time, and I would not have been too warm. As it was, it took me quite awhile to warm up AFTER we had left the restaurant. Admittedly, it was one of the those very cold days in Milwaukee, but, nonetheless, when I pointed it out to the hostess as we were being seated that there was cold there, and that I could feel a cool draft of air, she kind of just looked at me and smiled. I gathered that all the seats were that way.
Coquette Cafe is a favorite for satisfying the craving for a food and dining experience in the French style, from the mini-baguettes through the entrees to the always delectable desserts. Try the Salade Nicoise for lunch - always a favorite.
Wanted to like it food was just too salty. Wonderful Service and nice atmosphere.
The whole package. Lovely atmosphere, delicious food and really friendly service!
