Coquette Brasserie Ratings and Reviews
Our entrees (salmon and scallops) and wine were very good. The escargot was very disappointing. We have had it at other places and it had flavor. I don't know that we would drive from Durham to go here again but if you are in the area shopping, etc., it might be a good choice for something different.
We come to Coquette Brasserie fairly often. The food is always delicious and we enjoy the seasonal changes to the menu; and the daily features are always amazing. We enjoyed the Foie Gras, Tomato Bisque, Steak Frittes, Duck Breast and a delicious seasonal root vegetable dish that was so decadently rich we were blown away. The Creme Brûlée is also a personal favorite. Our table this past visit was adjacent to the ordering station for the wait staff and it was very loud and distracting and definitely impacted our enjoyment of the evening. Our mistake was not insisting that we be moved to a less noisy and congested spot.
Always enjoy Coquette!! This was the first time that I tried the seafood crepe and I wouldn’t get it again. It’s personal preference but I don’t understand why chefs smother crepes with sauce. Everything else from the bottle of wine to the Apple Tartin Dessert were perfect.
We have been to Coquette on several occasions. Typically we like the wine and cheese plates and find the entrees OK. Tonight the Mahi was particularly bland and the special ( can’t remember the name but like a French casserole) was just OK. When we were finished there was at least 3/4 of the fish left and as the server asked if we would like it boxed up we told him we did not like it and thought it was very bland with no flavor. He said a quick “sorry” and left. No other mention about it. We very rarely complain about food and would have hoped that our server would have picked up on the fact that we ate very little of it and would have least asked more about it. Overall not impressed and will not be going back.
Everything was great especially the food, wine and ambiance. The younger bartender who seemed new did such a good job and was clearly experienced. As did the servers who were very pleasant. I didn’t care for the older tatto laden smoker bartender or the older gentleman who had attitudes that don’t belong in this restaurant. Both came off as quite rude.
Coquette has been a favorite of ours for years now, but this visit was the second time running that we have been disappointed. Our prior dining experience was marred by a one hour wait for our food and my wife's pork tenderloin arriving at the table burned on the bottom. There were no apologies for either the wait or the badly cooked entree, just a complimentary dessert. We returned this time with higher expectations but, alas, it was not to be. I'll say up front that the service was great, and there was no long delay in getting our food. However, my black drum entree was like a piece of rubber, and the freely offered replacement salmon was okay at best. My wife had scallops that she very much enjoyed, but there were only three medium sized ones on the plate and no watercress salad as described on the menu - to us, a poor value for the price. I noted above that we would recommend Coquette to a friend, but it would have to be with the caveat of our recent experience.
Extraordinarily inept service. Waited at least 40 minutes after starters for main courses to arrive. Then only three of four arrived and we were told that the fourth was no longer available. The three that arrived were lukewarm and apparently were just left in the kitchen until they realized four meals were ordered.
Wine list improperly listed a wine as being one much above its level, with price at the higher level.
They did reduce price of wine and didn't charge for the fourth dish that finally arrived. But overall, very disappointing.
We've been here for brunch many times and this last time did not disappoint! The petite salad thst comes with the entree is always perfectly dressed and the omelette was cooked to perfection. The bread basket that comes with the meal iswonderful and we love the homemade butter. Thanks to all the staff for your hard work and effort. We will keep coming back!
Really enjoyed the dining here. We met some friends we had not seen in quite some time and the ambient noise was low enough that we were able to carry on a conversation without having to speak up. The service was very good and our waiter seemed quite knowledgeable about the menu and options. The food was very good and overall we had a great experience. We would definitely go back again.
Over the past 2 years since moving to the area, my fiancé and I have always enjoyed going to Coquette. We always bring out-of-State friends and family there to show them the awesome French restaurant we’ve been raving about. We literally look for any excuse to go there for some truffle frites and drinks.
This past visit we booked a reservation at 1:30 to celebrate our 4th anniversary together. Last year we celebrated our 3rd anniversary there as well. Open table asked if it was a special occasion and we selected yes and indicated it was an anniversary.
We were seated shortly after arriving (it was the usual busy Sunday brunch rush hour, so a brief wait/delay in service was expected).
We were not expecting to be relatively ignored by whoever our server was ( 1 person brought water and took drink orders, another person brought us bread) I’m assuming our actual server was the one who eventually showed up and took our food orders. If I wasn’t a regular, I wouldn’t have known there was an omelette and quiche du jour option and had to ask about them specifically. I ordered the quiche du jour but wasn’t informed they were out of that selection 15 minutes after the orders were placed.
The food was amazing as always but we were a disappointed with the service (or lack thereof) was during this visit. We will definitely be back because we know the food is worth it, but if this was our first time we might be less inclined to return.
We understand when gets busy, things can get hectic for the servers and staff but at least acknowledging our wait would’ve helped. Or acknowledging the fact that we were celebrating a special occasion. Why even ask if it’s a special occasion otherwise?
I am always pleased with Coquette. My meals never disappoint, neither does the service. I have been eating at Coquette since it opened, have taken family and visiting friends there, and enjoyed a drink and snacks in the bar, and have always been satisfied. I highly recommend Coquette.
I cannot get over the incredible service I received last Friday night for my friends surprise birthday dinner party. Josh was so helpful in executing the surprise. Thea and Tyler were over-the -top too. Just an amazing night made even more special by an incredible staff. Thank you all. The food and drinks were delish too. The charcuterie and cheese plate for the table and the mushroom risotto - just devine.
Busy Friday night dinner out. Food did not disappoint. The service was not on par with our expectations. We had to ask for our silverware to be brought to the table. Complimentary bread/butter arrived late. Drink refills slow. The table sitting next to us had similar experience. We were offered a free dessert in lieu of service. We declined as our evening out was already a bit of a disappointment that could not be fixed with sugar.
This is one of my favorite restaurants, but it was not up to par tonight. The baguettes were stale, the mussels were minuscule, and I could not have a conversation with my date. They really need to work on their hostess training. She will invariably seat a party of 2 at a tiny table, or so close to another party that it is impossible to have a semi-private conversation. I am used to small tables, close together, in Europe, but the tables at the banquette are too wide, making the person sitting across from you too far away to converse quietly. And who told the servers to "suggest" that everything was "excellent"? It may be a while before I give Coquette another chance.
We were in the area on other business and found this cute French casual restaurant via Open Table. That's the great thing about Open Table on which we've found wonderful restaurants all across the country. This was a great find, thoroughly enjoyable with excellent food and a delightful French vibe atmosphere. Delicious and fun casual food like Croque Monsieur and Croque Madame and crepes and quiche. When we're in the area again, we'll be back.
Good food and service. The profiteroles were disappointing: the chef should only use dark chocolate to make the sauce and double the quantity of that sauce to have real profiteroles and only use vanilla ice cream; that is the way they are in France's brasseries.
Very disappointed this visit. Evidently nobody in the kitchen wanted to work this Sunday night or does not know what the Coquette standard is for delivering quality food to a customer who has been there many times. And Manager was “Missing in Action”!! Very surprised at the whole experience!!! Oh well.... to many other restaurants to patronize that probably care what they serve.
Sunday Brunch - I've been many times for lunch and occasionally for dinner, but this was our first time for brunch. Excellent French Toast! The Chicken Pillard was disappointing, chicken was dry and tough. The Nutella crepe, good idea, but should be cooked when ordered.
I recommended Coquette to my friends visiting from NJ They wanted to take us out. I like to eat at Coquette and do so frequently and made the reservation under the visitors name . I am Lu Chassin. My friends love it as well and we had a fine time. I'll sure be back whatever the occasion!
