Copperwood Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Although Copperwood doesn't even mention its great beer selection on its rating form, that was (and is) a major draw for me. And because it has so many unfamiliar local beers on draft, it is helpful that they give samples. Food is good to very good, portions are generous, staff friendly and attentive. Noise level did not prevent conversation, even on a busy Friday evening. Dining with old friends I had not seen for awhile, and we talked a long time. At no point did staff pressure us to leave - much appreciated! Bonus: they put aside the cap I forgot - just picked it up!!
We had a couple of appetizers to start our meal; the deviled eggs and the grilled oysters. Both were a delicious way to begin. For our entree I had the scallops, and my husband had the pork chop. If you are looking for value in your meal, go for the chop, my husband's was huge, he could barely eat it all. On the other hand, 4 scallops for $28 seemed okay until my husband pointed out that it was $7.00 a scallop. They were very tasty, and they did fill me up, but it does seem a little pricey for four! We were headed to the theater, and the service was perfectly timed for us to get there for the opening curtain. All in all a good restaurant that I would return to again.
I made a reservation for a slower time of day (2:30) so when I mentioned it upon arrival the host didn't check. It's just it was my birthday. We were seated at a table in the windows, where the sun had softened the varnish on the table and our sleeves were sticking to it. Maybe if they can't replace them, then they should put tables with a better finish at those more popular window tables, and the sticky ones could be at a less desirable spot. Like in storage. So we moved. The server was ok. The fried green tomatoes were good, the deviled duck eggs didn't seem fresh (like the whites had been refrigerated for a while) and the bacon slices they were served on were so tough they were more like jerky. The steak salad was actually delicious! The music was kinda loud for that time of day, my father in law had to ask to turn it down. All in all, not a horrible visit but I won't return or recommend. I was looking forward to something much better. I wish I had chosen a different spot for my bday lunch.
Great food, especially the gluten free menu! Great drinks too. The tables are a little tight but it's a small restaurant. My favorite appetizer is the Fried Green Tomatoes! We've been several times and haven't had a bad meal. It's fantastic and I would highly recommend it!
Unfortunately, I had a disappointing experience at my favorite reliable brunch spot. The grilled oysters, which usually arrive at the table hot and bubbling, were browned on top but cold and raw on the inside. The quiche, which I've enjoyed several times before, arrived cold and with a thick layer of onions towards the top (instead of blended throughout as it usually is). And neither brunch mimosa tasted particularly appealing; in fact, it was hard to distinguish between the two. I hope this was a one-off experience and not indicative of a trend! I'm willing to try again. Service, however, was friendly and prompt.
I love Copperwood!!! Its brunch menu is delicious. I especially love the smoked salmon eggs Benedict and the jerky Bloody Mary. I can take my kids (they love the popcorn) there without getting the side eye, but it is equally nice for a boozy friends brunch. My husband and I can do brunch with drinks for around $50.
I have been to this restaurant many times. Lately, the food has not been the best and the service is not what it used to be.
Are they getting victims of their own success and becoming lazy?
There are plenty of other restaurants around so might be time for me to look at them.
Very quiet - only a few diners the entire time I was there. Probably the weather.
Food was outstanding- I had the bacon, avocado, lettuce and fried green tomato sandwich. Friend had the short rib and grilled cheese sandwich excellent service from Scott.
Will definitely come back for dinner and/or drinks.
Always love the food, whether fish, pork, or steak; a little pricey, but good quality, attentive service. Could wish they offered bread (rather than just corn muffins) to mop up juices/gravy; and that they had good sparkling water instead of just club soda. Good wine list and extensive draft beer selections.
Noisy—please tone down the piped in music. We would like to be able to converse while dining.
We are regular guests and notice the food quality has declined. The ribeye was not tender and chicken was basic. On top of mediocre food, our server continued to push and up sell us. We requested the check only to have him push after dinner drinks. No. If we requested the check, we were obviously done.
Was anxious to try Copperwood as my boyfriend and I had never been before. The food was great, but unfortunately, our service was terrible. Our waiter (and I forget his name) was not attentive...at all. We barely saw him, and when he came to our section it was only to pick up a tip from another table...he never looked our way to see how we were doing. I had to order another drink from the food runner (a lady who 'was' very attentive). Our waiter just seemed like he didn't like his job nor did he want to be there. Would go back, but only to another location and definitely not to be served by same waiter.
Very disappointing. This was just a family Saturday night out for dinner. The food was good--no complaint there--but I have never been so rushed in a restaurant. We were seated, orders taken, three courses served, and check presented in under 60 minutes. We had not finished appetizers when the main course arrived. Copperwood is also very pricey for what you get. The combination of high prices and a rushed meal left me distinctly unhappy. I will not be back.
We went for New Year’s Eve. We chose them because there were various articles that had advertised that their prix fix meal comes with a Champaign toast and party favors. However our waiter said he knew nothing of that and that maybe they were doing that in the bar area. They were closing down the area. Some people had favors. Maybe they brought them. Maybe they got them there. Either way it was not as advertised but the food was really good.
This was my third visit and second group brunch; they are acccommodating, they specialize in local ingredients, and their brunch menu is above average and occasionally creative. It’s attractive - copper and wood predominate in the decor - and noise level is not overbearing even when busy. I recommend.
