Copper Canyon Ratings and Reviews
Copper Canyon is our go to stop and with good reason...the oysters with jalapeno will eventually make the permanent menu, I hope. The service is always very good, the Tequila selection is amazing, and the NY strip could be the best in NJ. We left something accidentally at the table when we left and the waiter ran down the street after us.
Although the food was excellent, particularly the crab cake and strip steak with cayenne fries, the service was less than desirable. The menu was not explained or romanced. Water glasses were not refilled automatically without asking. Conversely, we had to ask that the dinner plate not be removed from the table before we were finished. And when we were ready for the bill, the server was no where to be seen. In addition the hostess was on her cell phone. For what was expected to be fine dining, the service felt more like that found in a diner.
My husband comes for the steak every time we are in town visiting friends. He loves it. I tried it this time and have to say, not sure what the hype is about. Flavors were muted, and could have used salt. We sat in the back bar area which was perfect for having two kids with us. But as I’m sure you’ve heard it was so ungodly hot it really made the whole meal unpleasant. I wish we had been notified the AC was out. Our waitress was either too busy or just didn’t care. And one food runner, young man didn’t pay attention to steak temps as our table ordered 3. He brought out one and put it in front of me I asked the temp he rudely said “It’s yours”. Well he didn’t know, so he took them back to the kitchen and some else returned knowing the temps. I also could have touched the top of the steak and told him the temps on each. Definitely don’t feel the need to return. But you have so many return guests, I’m sure you don’t pay attention to one less than positive review.
Amazing steak! Period! You can not find a steak at twice the price as good.
Start with the copper canyon margarita... perfect! If you are looking for tequilas... they have it. My girl and I share the spinach salad with homemade bacon and a handful of other ingredients.... they are known for their crab cakes, homemade guacamole, slow roasted salsa😘. If in season you must have the Mexican Street Corn. Birravino does this well but Copper is as delicious at a better price. Calamari is tasty too.
We can go full board when entertaining guests off the ferry or drop in for a quick margaritas... share a steak & salad. Never disappointed
The food is always great. Unfortunately, whoever is in charge has drilled into the staff their stated policy of a two hour time limit (an hour and a half for parties of two.) That policy was made obnoxiously clear while making an Opentable reservation and again while at the restaurant. While some on the staff are experienced enough to understand how off-putting that can be, like our waiter who said "I'm supposed to tell you that you have to order main courses at the same time as the appetizers," others are not and continually circled t he dining room like a flock of scavengers looking for food scraps to dive on and return to their kitchen nest.
My steak had to be sent back for a little more cooking time so my wife was picking at her food but trying wait for me. No less that three members of the kettle tried to clear her plate as we waited. I can't help but think that the tone set from this policy was the reason why a restaurant with such good food was not close to full with patrons on a Friday night. I'll never understand why a business would potentially alienate all of their customers, even those like us who have not interest or inclination to overstay our welcome, to combat the rare party that does.
My husband and I ate at Copper Canyon this weekend. The food was very good. I had the 3 tacos with an ear of corn and what a great choice. The corn was the best ear I have ever eaten (with cheese and spices on a skewer). Don't overdo with appetizers though. We did guacamole and then spilt a salad and then had entrees and it was too much food. Everything was tasty. I would go back again, but probably not on a Saturday night because of the noise level. I hate shouting over the table. Our server was friendly and helpful. Great menu.
Margaritas were good, guacamole was flat, chips were tastie , calamari was more peppers than soggy calamari, pork chop was promised to be prepared medium to medium rare and came out well done(absolutely not even a hint of pink), my wife loved her lamb chops. Overall very disappointed
We totally forgot about Copper Canyon. Wow. We are so glad we rediscovered it.
The service was attentive without being intrusive. Each server really knew the dishes and had a passion for for food they were serving
Parker, our waiter, suggested the Chipotle grilled shrimp with baby Bok Choy and it was one of the most flavor able meals I've had in a long time. The pistachio grouper was a special and that was also excellent.
Instead of a sweet dessert we decided to order the chips with a flight of guacamole. It was hard to choose our favorite - the feta, the pineapple or the traditional.
Overall, it was a great Monday night filled with top quality service and food to match.
This place is our favorite for family gatherings, the specials are always great to share. The Steak is always a favorite, but I ordered the pork chop to have something else and it did not disappoint. The oysters appetizer is amazing, will get it every time as long as it's available.
What's not to like about The Copper Canyon? I've been coming here ever since it began in it's original smaller location across the street. It is a fabulous local restaurant with great food, craft cocktails, and an amazing tequila selection. The house margaritas are made with 100% agave tequila and fresh lime juice. The panko crusted lump crab cake is the best I have ever had.....period! It takes at least 20 minutes to cook (the waiter will advise you of that) and is almost as big around as a hockey puck and twice as high! Oh and no fillers here. All 100% jumbo lump Maryland blue crab meat with just a few roasted chiles and seasonings. Amazing! The pasilla crusted NY Sirloin is tender, succulent and loaded with intense beef flavor. Over the years I have sampled just about everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. Chef/Owner Mike is hands on with every aspect of his restaurant and it shows. All of the food is cooked to order and beautifully presented. The service is excellent. The pricing reflects the quality of the food. If you want cheaper "Tex-Mex" style food with globs of rice, beans and cheese hanging off your plate then this is not the place for you. The dining room acoustics tend to be just a little loud so if you are looking for a real quiet, romantic spot this may not suit you. However please don't let a little noise stop you from missing out on what promises to be a wonderful dining experience! Bottom line? Please do not pay attention to any negative reviews you may hear about The Copper Canyon. Go check it out for yourself and I guarantee that you will not be disappointed!! Oh and do not forget to order that crab cake!
Been here a number of times. Margaritas are amazing and we love the food. The service is terrible and our server told us upon ordering "we can't order additional food because our table is on a time limit". This happened 5 minutes into seating. On top of having the clock ticking on our night out we had to wait for dishes once the small plates arrived.
The server asked us for dessert order and when we declined we were told we had to leave because they needed the table.
Bitter sweet because we love the food/drinks but believe the owner is pompous and doesn't care about their customer base. Won't ever go back.
Our waitress was friendly, attentive and informative about the menu. Our food was delicious, as were our margaritas. My only remark would be - this isn't Manhattan, maybe drinks shouldn't be $10-$15. $7 might be more appropriate. But the food and treatment by staff were really outstanding so we looked past that. I'd go again for the food.
We recently had dinner at Copper Canyon. Our expectations were not high; we were just looking forward to a casual, pleasant evening with neighbors whom we hadn't seen in several months.
As soon as the waiter approached our table, the evening took a downward spiral. The young man was weirdly aggressive and unpleasant. I can not remember ever feeling put off by a waiter before. He had the manner of an extremely unprofessional, high pressure commissioned salesperson. For example, he repeatedly suggested we order salsa and chips and/or guacamole, even after we declined. Weirdly, he had a new waiter trailing him, who he was training. Not a good sign.
All of the food we ordered was mediocre. When we requested additional salsa for dry fish tacos, we were surprised to find that we were charged for it.
Highlight of the evening were the margaritas, which were quite good!
