Copenhagen Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This time the Copenhagen restaurant gave me the worst possible experience. I had the reservation made and arrived at the restaurant 5 minutes prior to my reservation of 6:30 pm.
The hostess Nuri took me to the table in the back. My friend had not arrived as yet, I asked for table in the front by the window but she refused to give the table to me. She said the party was coming. The entire section was empty except the middle row for six people which she was expecting. My friend arrived and saw me sitting at the back and did not like to sit there. The hostess reluctantly gave us the table for two by the window. We finished the dinner and the front area was still empty except table for six in the middle.
The hostess Nuri was arrogant and rude.
This has been a favorite restaurant since Copenhagen began serving dinners. The food is consistently good & is better than most restaurants on the Avenue even though it is mostly a bakery by day and restaurant by night. The servings are generous and the food always tastes so fresh.
We had a group of 6 plus one under 4. They were very accommodating and brought our orders quickly. Everything was piping hot and delicious. I had the chicken schnitzel, which I've never had before, and it was delicious. What I liked was they didn't over-fill the plate with the sides. The served it with polenta and roasted veggies. The polenta was outstanding. My husband had the Chinese chicken salad and really liked it. He's really picky so for him to say he enjoyed it and he would come back again, means it's really good. My kids got the kids pasta and they enjoyed theirs as well. I ordered a slice of the princess cake for dessert (not on the menu - but because they had it in the bakery, it was available). It's my favorite and it didn't disappoint. Upon arriving and sitting down, I ordered a Diet Coke and then proceeded to spill the whole thing on the floor. They quickly cleaned it up, got a new high chair (no, my kid wasn't in it) and a new diet Coke all within minutes. Very impressed and appreciative.
I've noticed that on the last two occasions, that we women diners are given less than desirable table choices, even with reservations, and we are rushed throughout the meal. There is no reason or excuse for this. I love everything on the menu, but I might choose elsewhere based on the service.
Restaurant is much quieter during dinner time than hustle/bustle of breakfast and lunch times. Great for conversation. Restaurant's location was chosen for convenience of members of our group, halfway between San Francisco and Los Altos. Parking more available at dinnertime than earlier in day.
Copenhagen wins again!! I was craving some serious comfort food, because it has been so windy and cold in Burlingame this winter. So I tried Frikadeller, which was absolutely perfect!! The meatball, the potatoes, with the sublime gravy was delicious. My boyfriend selected the Shrimp Scampi and he loved it!!
Of course, the desserts were excellent as to be expected. I ordered a large Hot Chocolate , while my partner in crime selected the Hot Fudge Sundae. Both were beyond my wildest expectation. Yes, I did partake in a bit of the sundae.
As to the Hot Chocolate, there is only one other place I know in San Francisco- Boulette's Larder (SF Farmer's Market at the Ferry Plaza Bldg.)that can hold a candle to this. Decadent and delicious, in a most delightful way.
The location is great for people watching if you sit by the front windows.
Despite having Open Table reservations and arriving 15 minutes before the reservation time and there being an open table by the front window, we were seated in the dark elevated back section of the restaurant. We were the first table to be seated in that section. We were the first to order in that section. Subsequently, four other tables were seated. Three of those tables got their entrees well before us. In fact we were the last to be served with the table next to us who were seated last getting their entrees at the same time we got ours.
Best spot on Burlingame Avenue. Consistently good food topped off with the wicked bakery items!
Their famous chicken salad is a foodie and dieters delight. It is HUGE! And utterly delicious and loaded with chicken.
The burgers are the best in the Bay Area BAR NONE! luscious thick patty smothered in mushrooms on a homeemade bun.
My friend had the Frikadeller which was served with boiled potatoes and sweet and sour cabbage. She said it would have been nice to have had a little more effort with the potatoes the most versatile ingredient. The meatballs were like large lumps of coal and a bit on the heavy side, but if you want something very traditionally Danish. This might be a good choice for you. Too many other good things on the menu to enjoy.
The service at the restaurant was for the first time ever "surly". The young woman who was our server, needs to get a refresher course in smiling and service orientation. She was truly unpleasant and anything we asked for seemed like a bother. Very atypical of this restaurant. But she has worked here a looong time and should understand the ethic and welcoming style. Too bad. We didn't let her spoil our evening.
Copehhagen Restaurant has been a neighborhood family favorite of ours for many years. The bakery is outstanding, and the lunch/dinner menu is wonderful. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating in a nice but casual setting. The service was good, though a little hard to understand our server, she did a very good job.
We would highly recommend this restaurant to others for the outstanding food and bakery.
Parking is a bigger challenge than ever since the city of Burlingame took away the diagonal parking spots. City parking lots are nearly always full.
We often lunch there, but have eaten dinner there three times in the last month. The food is well cooked and served on hot plates. The ambiance is ok, but not particularly worth mention. They do put table clothes on for dinner. The food is hearty and fairly reasonable in cost. For example a New York steak with mashed potatoes and vegetables, including soup or salad is $22. Mahi mahi was $24.
