Big Iron Horse
Big Iron Horse Barbecue was created to bring flavors and cooking techniques of Texas, the great Southwest, and the Caribbean together for a unique blend of fusion barbecue. The Big Iron begins by introducing custom rub blends and smoke flavors to prime cuts of beef, pork, and chicken. Each are cooked low and slow to perfection then garnished with a select barbecue glaze. Most entrees and fresh garden salads are then complimented with sides such as barbecue Cuban black beans, cilantro jasmine rice, fresh fruit, sweet corn bread, and fresh vegetables
No lights. Slow service
Only bright spot was the salsa. I’ve been to many bbq places - don’t come here for bbq. Jose was our server and he was great. It took more than an hour for our food to be served after ordering. Jose brought us chips and salsa complimentary.
When we arrived for dinner I had requested no high top yet that is where they first tried to seat us. Then we were given a lunch menu and told that the dinner items on the website where not available? I was able to order ribs. My ribs were clearly reheated and over lathered in bbq sauce, overall they were a little over cooked. We also ordered the brisket sandwich, this was also dry and there was no sauce. By the time our waitress came back to our table we were pretty much done with dinner so need need to ask for additional bbq sauce. Best part about the meal was the sweat potato fries and the Mac and cheese. We were given a drink menu, but when we ordered off the menu we were told they no longer had that beer? Overall not a great experience, no plans on returning.
It was a very tiny place and when I walked in, no one acknowledged me. I wasn’t even sure I had entered through the right door! The menu online is far more extensive than in the restaurant. The food was decent and our waitress was nice enough. It just didn’t feel like the best dining experience overall.
Outstanding! Best BBQ ever! We love this special spot.
Love the roasted spinach artichoke dip! Burgers are wonderful as well as the pulled pork. Fish tacos on Friday are special. Environment is cozy and fun. I wish they didn't have a TV which detracts from the atmosphere of any restaurant that's not a sports bar. Prices are what you'd expect in a wealthier area like Barrington. Very small so seating is a bit limited. I would recommend reservations.
Everything on the menu has its own unique twist compared with what you might be used to. The fish tacos are excellent. Kids menu has good variety an is reasonably priced. The pizza is very good but the BBQ is why you want to visit again and again. Burgers are also great. They come with fries which are fresh cut and better than anywhere I have ever had fries.
All 5 of us loved our dinners, exceptional fish tacos!!!! Already looking forward to returning and they take reservations!
I'm not sure if our waitress' name but she was outstanding. We loved her personality. She had such a dry sense of humor and a dead pan face we just loved her. It was very quiet for a Saturday night, but that's more our scene anyway. The food was good. But our waitress definitely would be the reason we return.
Too salty. We both woke up dying of thirst.
Be sure to make a reservation, the restaurant is small. Food was amazing. It's a bit on the pricier side, but we'll worth it. Service is excellent as well. I would recommend this place to anyone.
What an awesome find. From the moment you walk in the aroma of smoked meats is awesome. Had the brisket and it was delicious, literally melts in your mouth. Looking forward to trying more items on the menu. First time here, but won't be my last. Service was excellent.
Generally the barbecue is fantastic and the service is great. This time, though, the ribs were undercooked (tough) and it took a long time to get served. I'm still a believer, but more attention to details would be great.
We had the pulled pork tacos and bbq beef tenderloin sandwich; both outstanding but the next day I actually wanted to drive back just to get those pork tacos. A definite find in Barrington that we will go back to!
Food undeniably delicious, very small seating area.
We were a party of 4 arrived early for our dinner reservation as restaurant was just starting to take dinner orders. Our server had also just arrived to begin work. She attempted to take our order and seemed confused and wasn’t able to comprehend. She returned to take our order again and than again for a total of 3 times. She should never have been at work in whatever condition she was in . Finally another very accommodating server took care of us and apologized for her. I hope she’s alright because that night on the 22nd she was NOT.
We have been here before; the food is outstanding. This was a Sunday evening, around 6pm, not crowded. However, they were out of brisket, out of green beans, and many of the items on the chalkboard and in the menu were "Friday only". The kitchen was very slow, it took about 30 minutes to get our food after we placed the order. And a lot of pesky flies; they really need to do something about that. We definitely will be back....
The food was delicious but they ran out of many items we went for. I wish I had known that before making the drive.
From the photos, the establishment looked a lot more substantial than it was. There were probably four tables outside, and maybe six inside. It was a little tight. Besides that, the food was excellent. The beer selection was also good, and the service was friendly.
I love this place. The ribs are fantastic. We have dined here many times and it’s a gem in Barrington.
Love the BBQ at Big Iron Horse. Great sangria. Scott is amazing owner.
Birthday celebration was fun. Staff took good care of us and sitting outside was good. Some loud trucks passed...though to be expected...
Limited seating but it adds to the intimate feeling. I recommend reservations. Food was excellent. Fun environment.
Long wait for food. The food was good but not great. The noise level from outside traffic was high. Would recommend for carry out.
You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu!
For a pricier menu and out of stock items. We expected more. Staff was not very professional. Won’t be back.
The service was excellent.
The server was pleasant and knowledgeable.
The food selection was good.
The bbq brisket was great.
Love this neighborhood gem. Small, cozy, great food, great service, and fun ambience.
Small space, good barbecue. Get a reservation in advance. Be prepared for them to run out of your favorite item - there is enough good food for you to have several favorite items!
OpenTable confirmed my reservation for a family dinner to celebrate my daughter's 11th birthday. BBQ ribs are her favorite thing in the world so we were excited to try this new restaurant. Unfortunately when we showed up at our reservation time, the restaurant was closed, and apparently always closed on Tuesdays. They need to update their OpenTable account to reflect that. The whole experience put a bit of a damper on the bday celebration.
First time visit. We will definitely be coming back. Chicken wings were delicious and fresh. Brisket and pulled pork with tasty barbecue sauces were well worth it. Friendly service too.
Reservations made. Text to confirm the day before. Arrived at restaurant. Restaurant closed!!
Our waitress, Jill, I think, is consistently patient, kind, friendly, and welcoming
Have never had a bad meal here! As you've probably already read, the fish tacos on Friday nights are excellent! Who knew cucumbers and strawberries on a fish taco would be sooo good! All of the Bar B Q is tasty. Our server recommended the Beef Ends which weren't on the menu as an appetizer, so we ordered, and then ordered a second helping!
High flavor, great tasting.
Found this place on Open Table since we would be in the area for my son's basketball tournament. Was surprised by how small it was but very impressed with the overall experience. My sons loved their burger and mac & cheese but I think the hit was BBQ, especially the beef brisket, best I've ever had!
Our server who was a female named Joe was very very good !!
Big Iron Horse was a random find when browsing OpenTable for new restaurants in Barrington. Little hard to find, but right in the heart of downtown Barrington is this BBQ-gem!
Great BBQ with variety of sauces from vinegar-style to thick and rich! Creative fusion of Caribbean food and BBQ.
The owner/cook, Scott even took the time to meet with us and chat. Such a great guy and awesome at explaining why certain ingredients are there.
Would definitely recommend! And will definitely be back!
Amazing fish tacos (only served Friday evenings). Pizza is also really good. Kids meals are a great value. If you like spicy try the Korean koji fish tacos which are always available. They serve beer and wine and have a pretty good selection. It is called big iron horse BBQ for a reason, the BBQ there is excellent. So lots of variety on the menu, quiet casual atmosphere and friendly staff.
