Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant - Wheeling Ratings and Reviews
The lobster crab bisque is absolutely fabulous. The Skirt steak was very tender, even at med-rare. Adam is very knowledgeable, both with the menu and wines as well as restaurants and food in general. We enjoyed conversations with him as well as being our server.
Overall good, not great experience. Service was very attentive. Food was good. Fun, great drink and wine options. Very noisy. Hard to have a conversation. Booked ahead and requested nice table. Put in the back near the kitchen. Was a business meeting. Very frustrating. It was so busy, I didn't make a big deal about it at the time, but regretted I didn't ask to be moved. If someone takes the time to book a reservation in advance, which I perceived others did not do, put them at a nicer table, especially if its obvious that it is a business meeting.
We came here for family dinner and the restaurant temperature was very cold. We had hot air and cold air blowing.
We did not realize this was going to be start of one of the worst dining experiences!
Then came the waitress who took our appetizer and drink order... all good till then. The food and drinks came promptly.
Then the wait began... and waited... almost 30 minutes for the waitress to come and clear our plates or ask for refill. And then take our dinner order. It spoiled our whole experience
We were celebrating my daughter's engagement. My wife and I took her and her fiancé out to dinner. Our booth was nice. The waitress did a fantastic job of not rushing us. She was there when we needed but not trying to push us. We had a great time. The food, wine and atmosphere were perfect. We are wine club members and really enjoy going to the Wheeling location.
Reservations were made but there was a small (15-20 minute) wait still. However, the place was packed and the hostess was very nice about it. Wait staff was fantastic and very attentive. Food was good and portions generous (though this could depend on what you order). Wine was okay. If you do not like sweeter wines this isn't the place for you. Note that putting birthday or anniversary on OpenTable reservations will probably get ignored--it did for us. Restaurant is VERY loud but we went later in the evening and as it gets toward 8PM it does quiet down a little.
We have been here multiple times and really love the wine and the food. We have some standing favorites like the Thai Lettuce Wraps and the Trio of Medallions but tried some new things this time - the meatball appetizer and the Bourbon Pork Chop - and they were fantastic. Have never been disappointed with the wine selections either and I love that they let you try a couple before committing. Great place for a date night or special occasion!
The restaurant was "Good" overall. The restaurant entry was a little crowded because they were having a "wine tasting night" but the restaurant was not crowded at all. I had tried to make a later reservation than the 3:45 p.m. time slot I got, but none were available. I guess they reserve the dinner time slots for "members". I was a little disappointed when I saw all the open tables when we left a 5:00 p.m. Food was "Good" and the drinks were fine. I reserve this restaurant for "another time" as I was not overwhelmed by anything at the restaurant.
Had resisted going to this establishment for quite some time thinking it to be a chain type restaurant. Last night I finally gave in and made a reservation. I very much appreciated the service from our waitress Grace. When the food came we were also pleasantly surprised by the quality. Will come back again.
I love this restaurant an have a great time every time I'm there. Unfortunately this time the heat was cranked up so hot right above our table that we were all very uncomfortable. We asked numerous times to have it fixed but the manager never came over and we just endured the uncomfortable heat. But the food and drinks were amazing. I will definitely go back.
Nice atmosphere. Food was pricey for what you get. They are not known for their pastas (it's all sauce) however, they are known for their steaks. Their portions need to be a little bigger. For example, on the waiter's recommendation I ordered the surf and turf. I asked how big is the lobster tail and was told "it was big" as he motioned with his hands. When the lobster tail was presented, it was about 2 bites and done. Similarly, the 2 medallion steaks were about 2 inches wide.
we come here often and have had great service with a great experience. the night we went, was definitely not the normal. Our server didn't acknowledge herself, and just asked for our order, and not in proper etiquette order. we had to go to the bar to get beverages, our server barely came by, our bread plates were stacked and she didn't take them, our water was only filled when she dropped off the check, i had to go to the bar to ask for straws. hoping this was a fluke with our server. On another hand, the food was great and the bartenders were VERY attentive with my needs!
