Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant - South Barrington Ratings and Reviews
I only go to the South Barrington location because the staff is out of this world attentive, fun, and knowledgeable!!!!
Whoever is in the kitchen is always spot on with the every single dish, appetizer, etc!!
I usually do lunch with friends, my mom, husband and my husband and I also go for date night's!!! I love the red wine selection, rewards, and tasting!! Kudos to everyone ate the South Barrington staff!!!!!!!! You all rock.
we are wine club members and have had dinner many times. we always enjoy the food, drinks and atmosphere. I usually order something different each time and its always very good. last time our reservation was delayed but the manager gave us a complimentary drink of our choice, very nice.
Was absolutely an amazing experience. Our waiter was amazing and I wish I could remember his name. He was so patient with us since we had never been there and helped us find the perfect wine. Even though we had to taste quite a few he never was frustrated with us. And the wine and food was delicious!! I did a wine flight so I tried a lot and they were all great!! And the food was excellent!!! I had the filet medallions and lobster!!! I can’t wait to go back again!!!
A very popular restaurant (even at 5:30 PM) but reservation (via OpenTable) was honored at chosen time. Rather boisterous crowd as one might expect with a craft wine-centric dining concept.
Appetizer (pork belly tostadas) were delicious albeit, rather awkward to consume although I can't think of any other way to present the preparation.
Filet (ordered and grilled rare) was tasty and accompanied by grilled (?) flowerets of broccoli which were nicely charred and flavorful. Mac and cheese was fair but not sublime. Companion enjoyed her grilled tenderloin medallions with three varieties of compound butter (parmesan, horseradish, and bleu cheese).
Had the Cooper's Hawk NV Heritage which is decanted from a rather showy contraption. Wine was not as complex as expected and the wine list should have an informative description of each Cooper's Hawk variety, i.e. provenance, vintage, blend percentages, etc. Presumably, one could learn these things if one chooses to begin their meal in the foyer/wine tasting room.
Service was mostly attentive although fully-packed dining room most likely presented a challenge. Was good to see a floor manager in operation and also liked the roaming server's assistants who moved unobtrusively through the restaurant.
My friend and I go to Coopers Hawk about every six months or more a year! We have ALWAYS have great food, wine and great time!
But this time our server was awful. He made us feel like we were not moving fast enough with our meal.
We told him we were dining and not in a rush right from the beginning. He pushed us to order an appetizer! Then seemed disgusted with us when we would not order our main meal fast enough.
We felt rushed the whole time. We both are wine club members.
He definitely was not the normal server we usually have at CH, usually our servers are very accommodating to us. And we tip generously for that! Not on Friday we did not !
Maybe he was having a bad night but he didn’t seem to be with other customers.
We will definitely go back but it just put edge to our whole night!
Met a friend for dinner and we’ve been to this location several times. Our server was very kind, but new to the dinner crowd so a few things got mixed up over the process of our dinner. It look a while too - but I was in good company so it wasn’t a huge deal. Reserve barrel wine is always the best! I would still go back because of the location (central for us) and the wine. Next time we may sit at the bar.
We love to eat at Cooper's Hawk whenever we are in town. The service is always top-notch and the food is yummy. It's great that there are so many gluten-free options and that care is taken for guests who have celiac disease. We love the tableside wine decanter so much that we bought one for ourselves this time!
