Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant - Merrillville
Tried the Shrimp & scallop risotto & Short ribs risotto. They were both excellent. Our server was very good.
Had lunch with a group of friends and the service was excellent. The food was very good except for the flat bread pizza which my friend found greasy.
I have been dinning there at least once every other week and this time the service was poor, the waitress only came around once and didn’t even served us bread like every other time I have dine there.
First time here after having friends recommend them. The food was absolutely terrific from the salads through the entrees
We dined in as a group of 4 on 1/11/19. As always, the dining experience was wonderful and Michael, our waiter, was absolutely fantastic. We did, however, have an issue with the woman who conducted our wine tasting. I wish I could recall her name, but she ran the middle smaller tasting counter when we were there a little before 9pm. Our tasting took an hour and a half because she would take around 10-15 minutes to refill our glasses. Multiple instances in our group of 4 she ran out of wine to fill the last glass, which isn’t a big deal it happens, but our last party member wouldn’t get their glass until nearly 10 minutes afterwards because she took so long getting a new bottle. We’ve been there plenty of times and it’s been way busier than it was that night and we had way better and faster tasting service. By the time we were ready to have our dinner the kitchen was closing within the next 15 minutes. Which we felt terrible about. Michael, our restaurant waiter, was so great and accommodating and assured us that we were no bother and everything was okay. He did a perfect job. We love this restaurant and will always come back, we were just disappointed with our most recent tasting’s service guide.
Reservations made for 7:30 on a Friday night, wine tasting was crowded and was taking longer than expected. I asked them if they could change the reservation to 7:45, they did that with no problem. Was seated right away when we were ready.
We enjoyed our dining experience. It was a little loud that evening for our liking.
My husband and I had a date night
Always a great time. Wish that outdoor seating would be available when the season permits.
The restaurant was busy, but the service from the bar and kitchen were very slow this evening. The waiter was very apologetic and did all the right things to remedy the situation. Overall experience was not what I am used to, but perhaps it was a staffing issue in this particular evening.
Took awhile for the drinks (beer) to arrive.
Love it there
We been here several times and we are wine club member, so we love it. Only thing we come across each time we visit the Merrillville location, is that we always have reservations and always end up waiting at least 20 minutes. With that being said, make sure to make reservations, otherwise who knows how long the wait will be!
We were seated almost 30 minutes after our reservation and standing in the restaurant lobby was loud and uncomfortable. There was not any seating and listening to the host staff loudly screamed for customers as their tables were ready was very annoying. They need a better system for this! Once seated, everything was top notch.
Great food and great service. Our waitress was excellent too. She handled our table of 8 like a pro! Happy wine club members. :)
Menu was diverse, and the food was great. Our server was attentive without being intrusive. We always enjoy the experience of having a meal at Cooper’s Hawk.
Great food, great service! Thank you Trent!! Dine here atleast once a week! Love Cooper's Hawk!!
Excellent food everything had it own flavors, wine was fantastic. If you don't know much about wine they make selecting wine very easy!
Had a very pleasant Anniversary dinner here. The food was excellent, and our server was attentive and helpful. The only downside would be the noise level, which was quite high. The front part of the restaurant is a wine bar and retail area and it was already teeming with a young lively crowd when we got there at 5:30 for our reservation. It’s definitely a popular place, good for special occasions. The food was all well-prepared.
Normally fantastic food, our last trip my scallops came out completely burnt, hard as a rock and my wife wasn't thrilled with hers ether.
What's not to like about Cooper's Hawk? The food is always consistent & delicious. My vegetarian daughter always finds something she likes. My husband travels for business & always knows he can rely on Cooper's Hawk for a good experience when he takes clients there regardless of what town he's in. Of course we love the wine tastings, too, especially as a preface to a meal. We actually made friends with another couple we met at a tasting one time. We also enjoy the awesome variety of truffles but usually don't have room in our bellies for them by the time the meal is over. We're so honored that Cooper's Hawk also supports our community in their philanthropic projects. Thank you, Cooper's Hawk!
Asian pork chop was great. Unique flavors.
Beef short ribs meal was similar to a pot roast-not bad, but not special.
Wines were paired well with the meals.
Chocolate cake was a pleasant end to the meal.
All in all, a pleasant night out.
We have been here several times with food and service being very good, however we just experienced some poor service on this last visit....hope it’s not what may be a trend. We will give this place one more chance to verify.
Always have great food but they need to consider putting the lobster on the main menu permanent
The prices were a bit high - but okay. Our biggest disappointment was the Creme Brulee. Get a cook or a cookbook. What we got (2) was apparently butterscotch pudding with a layer of toasted sugar. This is fraud. Any time someone orders this dessert you can be absolutely sure they know what it is - you can't pan off some ersatz fake.
One of the medallions was pretty tough. Hard to believe this was chipped off a tenderloin. Altogether it makes me suspect that the manager is not above finessing stocking problems or out-of's in the belief that customers won't notice.
I thought coopershawk was a great place for a date! Or even regular occasions. The food was great and so was the service. Very pleased!
We make this our NYE spot for dinner every year. Our entrees are always amazing. We have always had the best service. Even on one of the busiest nights of the year they are always on top of reservations, food, and drinks.
It was the only restaurant with open reservations for NYE so I took my 4 sons there. I loved my Mediterranean shrimp salad. It was fantastic. My son had the filet and seemed reasonably content with it. My other sons had the crab cakes and kid’s chicken strips and both boys did not like their meals. My oldest had a chicken dish and it was OK. Our appetizers were the calamari, which was awful, and the chicken pot stickers which were phenomenal. I would highly recommend ordering those. Overall, the price was good for the amount of food that we ordered. I would return for the salad.
My husband and I had a very nice time at Cooper’s Hawk. We enjoyed our first date night/NYE dinner since becoming parents in late October 2018. Our waitress Amanda was awesome. We can’t wait to come back
We visited this restaurant for New Year’s eve dinner. The staff or efficient and friendly. I had the pecan crusted chicken with the green beans and coconut mashed potatoes. It all came out of the kitchen very warm and the chicken was extremely tender. The special of the evening was flame of billions with a 4 ounce lobster tail. The file was tender and the lobster tail was tender as well. We tried the salted caramel crème brûlée for dessert. Although tasty it was a bit salty.
We also tried the bruschetta for an appetizer and that proved to be a great choice as the tomatoes were thankful I am that she’s plentiful.
The food was a little better than average, but also a little pricey. The service was fine - not outstanding. It was too loud to have a conversation at times - possibly due to some over served patrons celebrations.
Out of too many wines again. Waitress only came back once to see if we need anything
This was the 3rd time I've been here. Drove 45 min. Because last 2 experiences were great. This time however we were seated next to the loudest table ever. It was so annoying. But even worse was the six, yes 6 dirty tables i had to stare at while we were eating. And throwing a napkin over the plates was even worse. Then the servers sticking their fingers in the dirty glasses topped it off. Other than that the food was good. I will make sure to mention the next time not to sit us by a huge party.
Everything was good!
I made a reservation for my mom’s birthday and when we got to the restaurant they claimed to not have the reservation. The hostess was very rude. I even showed her the email confirmation for the reservation and she said we would still have to wait since they didn’t have the reservation. We sat in the bar instead. Our waitress was pleasant and the food amazing.
The service is 50/50. Fifty percent of our experiences are great and the other fifty just bad service. Seems more of their food is frozen and not made at the restaurant.
Wonderful time with family!
We waited for our waitress for a long time just to take our drink order. We had to request bread after sitting 30 mins. It took a long time to place our order. My candied bacon and cheese appetizer came out with totally burned (black) toasted bread. Our waitress was not attentive at all during our visit. Had this same waitress once before long time ago and the experience is always less than average with her. She also brought out a dirty take out container and through it all she never extended an apology. She simple didn’t demonstrate care to provide a good experience. The other wait staff is pretty nice. We just have to make sure not to sit in her section in the future. We just don’t have her name but she’s blonde with glasses, seems to be in her 40s.
Excellent place. We were visiting from SC. Wish we had one near us.
I had joined their wine club on Thanksgiving Day, which entitles one to discounts on wine and food. When the server looked up my membership, she told me it had been canceled. This was not at my request.
