Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant - Merrillville
We are wine club members and go to this restaurant on a regular basis. The food is always delicious and of high quality, with a menu that stands out from most restaurants in this area. The servers are almost always very friendly and helpful. There is a great deal of thought, expertise, and creativity put into each of the offerings on the menu. There is a wine suggestion paired with each food item, which makes wine selection effortless for those of us with a somewhat limited knowledge of wine (though the wine club and the wine tastings at the restaurant are an excellent way to become educated).
The wine was excellent, are food was excellent . Waitress seamed slightly under trained bit was not bad. Overall we had a fantastic experience!!
Short Ribs were fatty and tasted like they were leftovers
My husband and I had an amazing time. The food was great portions were sized just right. Our server was knowledgeable and very attentive. We will definitely be dining again.

Just wish we had a booth as requested in reservation. Our chairs were 1/2 on carpet and half on hard floor making chairs uneven.

Reception desk for dinner customers VERY loud and disorganized....told a customer without a reservation it would be 2.5 hrs.... really??? They weren’t that busy and several tables were empty half way through our dinner. Those customers left and went somewhere else.
Front Staff did not leave a good impression however our waitress and our dinner were fantastic. We really appreciated her and it... the chefs did a great job!!
Came in for my birthday. We made a reservation days in advance for 6pm. We arrived and did get seated until 6:45. Was a bit frustrating.
Great service delicious food, awesome waiter. It did get a little loud towards the end but it was a full house.

Food was much better than expected, didn’t realize it was a ‘scratch’ kitchen, allowing orders to be modified. Food was very fresh, service was attentive.
The food was excellent, except for the calamari. The calamari was fried entirely too hard to the point it was almost inedible. My husband had the red wind braised short ribs, and I had the crab cakes. Both were good. The fries that came with my crab cakes were pretty salty and fried hard though. The service left A LOT to be desired. Reservations were for 7pm. We requested a booth, which I know may be a little longer of a wait, which was okay. The hostess told us our table was ready, and it would be a few more minutes, but 15 minutes later we still had not been seated. We inquired, and we were told that another customer moved tables and moved into our booth. Not cool. Eventually, we were seated at about 7:50pm, at which we should have just left. We had an awkward encounter with the manager, who said he was instructed to come to our table, however, we did not request him to come. He said he hoped he enjoyed our meal, and sorry for the wait. Our waitress, Alexis K., was horrible. She said that the reason that we waited for our table for so long was because she dropped a lot of dishes, and she had to clean them up. They couldn't seat anyone in her area until she got back. So who lied, the hostess or the waitress? We attempted to get our waitress' attention SEVERAL times to the point where we felt as if she was intentionally ignoring us. All we wanted was our bread. She did not bring our bread to us until 8:23pm, and we had to ask for it. We ordered calamari as an appetizer. We overheard her say to another customer who was seated after us that they got our calamari. We asked our waitress about it, she LIED, and said that their calamari wasn't ours. She said our calamari was sent back because it was fried too hard. The calamari came out with our meal still fried hard. She removed the calamari from the bill, however, we will NOT be back to this location. It was the worst experience I have EVER had at Cooper's Hawk - Merrillville. This location just lost a loyal customer.
It was great
Very dim lighting and lots of items to choose from on the menu. Prices are a little high and waitress was a good server. The front desk service was lacking some hospitality though. Overall I was satisfied, but I would say the food was a little on the chard side.
Our server, Kim ??, was thorough and patient during our meal. We were there 2.5 hours too.
Excellent service and food! We were disappointed with the wine tasting section though. My husband and I are members and we decided to taste wine before we make our decision to pick up and purchase our wine. There was no line but we were told to wait in line and they will get to us. So we waited for 10 minutes and decided to leave because it made absolutely no sense that no one could have helped just 2 more guests. We will be canceling our membership but definitely continue dining in the restaurant!
We were a table of 6 with reservations. Our table was squeezed between a few small tables. I could not adjust my chair what so ever because the person at the next table was practically on top of me. My suggestion give some room between tables. Little uncomfortable and unfortunately I was not interested in there conversation
Service was A++ from moment I walked in...1/2 hr early for godfathers 70th Bday .... let me have table early so I could set up w some decorations. Amanda server was attentive & polite & we all had a great time!!

The crusted Parmesan chicken I got was probably the most delicious thing I’ve ever had, hands down. I was just sad I left my leftovers on the table when I left. Will definitely be back for that meal.
They were very busy so service was slower than usual anymore it's hard to get a spot at the wine bar till late in the evening. I got the encrusted parmesan shrimp I was kind of hoping that the encrusted parmesan would be like it is on the filets more of a dry but instead they had more of the parmesan flakes on it. It's still very good I was just expecting the other cuz my favorite is always the tri filets the different encrusted parmesan horseradish on top.
The food was great and our waitress was wonderful and the only negative thing we could say was that it’s nearly impossible to here anyone unless they are right next to you. There were six of us and it was hard to communicate.
Other than that-fantastic!
Date Night with my wife. Food was excellent. S’more Budino was amazing, for dessert.

Dine many times here. Food & service is always great. Sometimes too loud. That of course depends on who is sitting near you.
We are wine members & love their wine.
My only complaint is that we showed up for a wine tasting before dinner and had to wait 30 minutes before a wine server was available to serve us the tasting. They were understaffed and did not have adequate personnel at 4:45 pm in the wine tasting area. Given this was the last day of the month and wine club members like myself would likely be attending I think management should have scheduled additional personnel at an earlier time. Other than that we love Cooper's Hawk and always enjoy dinner there. We are wine club members even though the one in Merriville is the closest to our home and it is an hour and 15 minutes away.
We always have a great meal no matter which Cooper Hawk restaurant we go to.
Great time sampled wines as we waited to be seated. Waitress very knowledgeable. Great food and wine,relaxed setting noise level low easy to talk at dinner
Came with a friend for a nice Afternoon meal. Server was attentive and informative. Food, unfortunately, was not as good as usual. I ordered Calamari and they looked and tasted as if they'd been recooked. My friend's Chicken meal was bland and flavorless.
Overall, the location, Ambiance and Service was good.

This last visit was very disappointing. We usually visit this restaurant once a month. This time around the tasting room experience was not as enjoyable as usual. Service was not as warm and inviting. We were seated for dinner in the back room which is the worst part of the restaurant. You seem to be forgotten. Well we weren't even approached for service until we spoke to a manager. Then our server was not attentive and rarely came back to fulfill our requests let alone take our order. It took forever to get our food. Unfortunately we wont be visiting again.
For the most part it was outstanding. Just after we arrived they were slammed with a number of large groups that slowed service a bit and brought the noise up a few notches higher than usual. Even still we loved it. It was a wonderful anniversary dinner!
My husband and I along with a couple of very great friends had reservations for a table at 12:30. We were seated at our table and our waitress disappeared. We looked around and didn’t see her. After about 10min. We flagged her down. She was not pleasant nor smiling and our friends commented that it looked as if she didn’t want to be there
We brought our adult sons for dinner. We had a great waitress “Ottis” and Joe was amazing! Love the people at this location!
