Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant - Indianapolis Ratings and Reviews
This was our second time for Cooper's Hawk. I was offered a wine tasting while waiting on our table and the wine was their "this year's blend". I thought it had no front taste and a sterile aftertaste. At dinner we had the chopped wedge salad - very good. I ordered a $8.75 glass of Malbec, again it was flavorless. I ordered the surf and turf with Parmesan crusted medallions with crab-cakes. The medallions were good, not great and the crab-cakes turned out to be a crab-cake - no "cakes" to it. The crab-cake was sad, brown with a runny center. I was disappointed for a $30.00 entree that included a ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes and a 1/4 cup of lukewarm mixed grilled vegetables. We been there and done that and won't be back. One side note: We had excellent service by our waiter!
This was a very mixed scenario for this location because having some positives but also so negatives. First off they need someone to explain maybe what is going on when you walk in to understand everything rather than thinking everyone has been there or knows what this location is all about. I knew it was highlighted by wine and a couple friends told me they are apart of their wine club. So we happened to get there 45 minutes early figuring we could check in and maybe go to the bar for a drink till our table was available. We decided to wait in a line for a moment and I went and asked what the line was for as my wife waited in line. The hostess was short with her answers and said yea it is for wine tasting. Fast forward 30 minutes they call our name and we are now 2/3s of the way through the line so I told them we will just wait later for our table because we have been waiting. 20 minutes later we are in to the tasting room and finally explained that you are paying for the tasting and that is why it is a little bit of a hang out and people might not even be there for dinner. Some of the people were in there the whole time we were in line and through the whole time we were doing tasting as well. It felt they could arrange the area with about 10-15 more spots for tasting rather than having a line in the tasting room like waiting for a Disney ride or could have a couple spots open where people walk up and get their glass then step away from the bar top allowing for more people just standing there staring at everyone tasting with the gaze of hurry up. This is where we were finally explained the whole concept of the business rather than maybe 3 hostesses standing around coming up and explaining it to people in line that were there for the first Time. different couples within the line had friends show up any where from 15 minutes to almost at the front of the line that skipped right up to where their friends were. Apps were great but main courses were over cooked a lot.
This was our first visit to celebrate my son’s 20 birthday. It was a very enjoyable evening and we enjoyed that the tables weren’t too close together so we had privacy and were able to have a conversation. The food was great as well. We plan on dining here in the future.
It was a Friday night and the place was packed, which was a good thing. It was a good move to have a reservation it was just as busy when we left. The waiter was very friendly and funny, made us feel welcomed. He could answer any questions about the menu or wines. We both got red wine flights ($15 each) and it was well worth it. The food was great, comes with bread/butter beforehand. I would definitely go back
Get together with old friends visiting town. Two out of four loved the food and two thought that their selection was bland. Sat in booth so conversation was fine. Room next to booth very noisy so we requested booth. Waiter helpful on wine tasting. Dessert very good(chocolate cake with ice cream) overall very pleasant evening. Will return to this restaurant!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Always great food and good menu. Good wine offered in many varieties. We have joined the wine club and feel it is a good value. It is a popular spot and reservations will save you a lot of impatient waiting.
they offer wine tasting and it is popular, but not enough space to be efficient.
this place has become popular.
Cooper's Hawk has become my partner's favorite place and since it is her favorite place, it is of course, mine too. Very good food, and the service is always top notch. Also very nice wines made by them and always a chance to sample them. We went there the first time on a lark, and have taken 3 other couples there to eat with us since. We will be back soon.
We regularly go to Cooper's Hawk and our visit Saturday may be our last. Really bad service and the food was not fresh. Seemed like everything had been sitting then microwaved immediately prior to serving. Yes, it was a busy Saturday night but these guys have been around for a while so no real excuse.
We have been coming to Coopershawk for about six months, driving to Indianapolis from Kokomo. The food is excellent and the service is also very very good. Like many restaurants, sometimes we get seated to noisy tables or noisy children which can be distracting. On our most recent visit, there were a number of families with little children, most of whom were crying. It would be nice if there were a separate area for Families with small children so that those of us who came down for a quiet meal together might have a little more peace and quiet. Obviously, that is not necessarily the fault of the restaurant. I highly recommend Cooper’s Hawk to anyone interested in quality food and great service
Set at reservation time for 8:45 on a Friday night and got seated as soon as we walked in. Server was very patient as we did a lot of talking and weren't able to decide on drinks quickly. Was a little louder than I prefer but nothing that would ruin the occasion. Food was great and overall pretty good experience.
The service and food were great! It is noisy but still great atmosphere. The only problem this time was that they sat us in the Barrel room and it was freezing. We had to leave our coats on. The rest of the restaurant was at a good temperature. They said they would try to turn it up but that caused the other rooms to get too hot.
