Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant - Arlington Heights Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant was packed at 7pm on a Monday. Must be a good sign for the restaurant. Tried the light fare ahi tacos which I would not order again, not a lot of creativity in the taco combined with the slaw appearing on certain Cooper's Hawk plates. Boring. Mexican egg rolls as starter was great. Will go back, this entrée was just a bad choice for me.
The waitress was very slow. We waited at least 10 mins before she greeted us. Then took at least 10-15 mins to get our drinks. She grabbed my wine glass when there was still wine in it. I had to ask her to give it back to me. I have never had that happen there before. I’m a wine club member, been going there for years. Was not happy with the service tonight.
Cooper's Hawk was a great place to celebrate a special occasion. The ambiance was not too dark, and neither was the dining room too quiet that you couldn't have a good time with friends. The shrimp polenta was divine, and so were the pork belly tostadas appetizers which had this sweet chili barbecue sauce that was not overpowering. Overall, great food, friendly wait staff, and a lovely waiting room with seasonal souvenirs to catch your eye.
First I want to say that our waitress was outstanding! Best server I have ever had at Cooper's Hawk. The food was also spot on!
Lately though a couple of things to note: tastings go on too long, people are allowed to stay as long as they want, drink as much as they want and that doesn't let others partake. You always have to wait. We waited until after dinner and one of the counters was half empty. One of the employees ( as soon as we walked up) said rudely "we're closed" we looked baffled since there were others their tasting. The servers at the tastings aren't the most pleasant either ---- oh and they always out of Sparkling Rose.
I'll still go back but will look for the cheery people behind the counter - they should take lessons from our waitress!
Our food was delicious and our server was very attentive. After dinner we went to pick up our bottles for the wine of the month and waited and waited and waited for someone to come and ask us what we needed. I was frustrated when a worker was standing and talking to another worker and didn't acknowledge that my husband and I were waiting patiently for some assistance. After waiting over 5 minutes and listening to a fascinating gossipy story from the employees we decided to just leave.
This restaurant never disappoints. The service is exceptional. It is the small things with the service that make it stand out. The food is exceptional down to every last detail including amount, flavors, how it is cooked, etc. I can't say enough about this place.
We said it was our anniversary when making open table reservations and received not even a 'happy anniversary' from the front desk. The soup was cold and the dessert was hard as a rock. Overall the food was okay but nothing super special except for their wine list. The manager came to complete damage control and offered us a free dessert next time. Pretty disappointed and we will be going out again to 're-do' our anniversary dinner.
As members, we've been to this location often. For some reason there has been some confusion with our wine tasting before our dinner reservation. It's obvious the staff is pressured to upgrade single bottle members to the two-bottle membership. It seems like they try to convince us that we cannot have more than one wine tasting unless we upgrade. I've spoken to the manager in the past and have been told this is not the case. We can, in fact, sample a couple different wines while waiting for our table. It's a very uncomfortable position to be put in as a customer. Although we have had great table service in the past, this most recent visit seemed to be subpar to their normal standards. All in all we seem to be less and less interested in the benefits of being a member of their wine club.
This is the first time I have had a subpar experience at Cooper's Hawk. They usually go above and beyond what they need to do. Besides for getting a reminder e-mail about the seven pm reservation, they called me that day to confirm. Our group of eight are all Cooper's Hawk wine club members, so we started our evening doing some wine tasting. At 7:00 I went up to the Hostess station to let them know we were ready to be seated. We have 1 handicap person in our group. Instead of the host telling us that it would be at least 15 minutes to get a table, he said nothing. Our group moved from the wine tasting area to the foyer. Luckily there was a bench that the handicapped person could sit at. 30 minutes later we got a table. We were told we would get a complimentary drink and appetizer for our inconvenience. That was fine, but our server was not aware of this. There was a lack of communication between the hostess station and our server. That also includes the two birthdays that we were celebrating. When I had the phone call earlier in the day for the confirmation for 8 of us at 7 p.m., I reminded about us celebrating 2 birthdays. I was told that that was noted on our reservation and our server would be told. That didn't happen. Instead of us going back to the wine tasting area, it probably would have been a better idea for the hostess station to tell us to go wait in the bar, and our complimentary appetizers and complimentary drink could be served there. We have two diabetics in our group, and they needed to eat. This definitely dampened the mood of our group for the evening.
