What Insiders Are Saying
One of the few New York City restaurants you can count on for an excellent meal regardless of circumstance. Go for any meal or for a day on the patio.
Always, always, always, always, always a good meal, good service and a venue that goes the extra mile. Thank you Cookshop - thank you! I visit this establishment often and I'm never disappointed. Breakfast, lunch, brunch or dinner - always superb. Interesting menu and great drinks. Go!
Cookshop was quite the unexpected surprise and it will now be my go-to place when I'm eating out. My husband and I are huge fans of Vic's, one of this group's other restaurants, and it's apparent that they bring the same inventive and creative focus to the food in all their restaurants because our meals were outstanding. The ingredients were fresh and inventively used, resulting in a truly impressive trek through all the dishes we shared. My favorites were the leek salad and the nettles/mushroom/ricotta entree but I tasted my husband's salmon and it was perfectly prepared: moist and delicate. The staff were great and welcoming, and although the place got a bit loud at times we still found the opportunity for our quiet conversation.
Good place if you want a scene. Very noisy. Food was good, but limited menu.
Staff couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. Split pea soup was excellent, chicken liver mousse was good, blue-cheese fritters lacked blue cheese, and a green salad was nearly inedible due to too much vinegar. Venison was nicely prepared but missed the mark as an overall expensive entree because of, again, too much vinegar in the underlying grain. Vegetarian cassoulet was modest--nothing wrong, nothing remotely memorable. Arctic char was good. Desserts all followed the same general pattern that wasn't our preference, so we skipped them. This was not our first visit, but all in all, it was disappointing .
Reliably consistent and delicious food. A great restaurant to return to again and again with great wine selection in the Chelsea area.
Food was delicious and our server
Have now been for brunch, lunch and dinner and every time Cookshop has been amazing!!!! It can get pretty loud at night but the food is so, SO good and the service is wonderful. Will be back again and again.
Cookshop never disappoints! Fantastic service the other night and had a superb special.
The food was excellent and the service was fantastic.
Arrived early ... We were seated in the booth we requested. Sommolier (Hannah?) recommended a bottle of wine which we were left to enjoy while we celebrated our daughter's birthday... No rushing which we appreciated! We have been to Cook Shop before... Burrata and Baked Polenta Dumplings are favorites. Great service and food!
Amazing St paddys day dinner! The corned beef and cabbage was delicious. Love that cook shop changed their menu with the seasons/holidays.
Always a great meal! Food is fresh and delicious. Menu is simple, yet innovative.
An above-average restaurant with above-average examples of pretty standard American fare. The baked chicken was juicy. The deviled eggs were spicy (in a good way). We had a nice time.
Great tasting food, and great ambiance. Appetizer portions were a bit small, but delicious.
Such a friendly server. The food was outstanding. Could improve upon the wine offerings! Love this place!
food was fine, a bit overpriced. the restaurant was wide open and they seated three parties directly next mine as opposed to spreading out. seemed unnecessarily crowded.
Went here before and had a great meal. Decided to come back and take my fam for a birthday celebration for my wife. Mistake. Meh.
Food was not great. (steak was tough, pizza was soggy, mussels were blah). Service was friendly but spotty in the effectiveness. Wish I hadn’t chosen here to celebrate. Won’t be returning.
The Huevos Rancheros was good but it’s served like a bean dip. I liked the flavors but I did not like the form in which it was served.
Table I reserved was ready for us, and the service was attentive and courteous. The menu offered a wide variety for brunch, and my almond pancakes with lemon curd were scrumptious, and my friend enjoyed her falafel sandwich! My only complaint was the noise level. It was very loud, sometimes forcing us to raise our voices in order to talk to one another. And, the tables were too close together. But I would still recommend it!
Brunch was delicious! I had the pancakes, and my friend had the huevos rancheros, both of which were excellent. The server was very attentive, and the vibe was perfect for a cute Sunday.
The brunch food and service was great
Excellent food & service. However it got very loud.
Food was fresh and delicious. Well balanced menu, with many healthy options: fish, salads, small plates.
Service was impeccable. I will come again.
Good neighborhood staple. Food is not what it used to be.
Great server and excellent food. Bloody Mary not too shabby either!
Love this place!
Very good food, and a great neighborhood vibe. Clean lines mad for an elevated mood—more than just a local cozy spot.
We had a delicious lunch, but be prepared for noise. The music is loud and the conversation is loud too.
Recommend the Brussels sprouts and the deviled eggs !
The food is always good, interesting, fun, inventive, nicely done. But it's bedlam in there. I lost my voice trying to scream across the table at my companion. The incredibly loud music is supposed to make the place feel "fun" and hip, I guess, but the background noise forces everyone to shout and just makes it hard to have fun with the person you're with. A judgment error in so many American restaurants, unfortunately.
Fresh - love the limited menu
Great wine options
Have had artcic char and several
Starters and salads
Cookshop never disappoints. The farm to table amazingly works year round and they keep the menu limited so that they do not over stress the kitchen. Prices keep going up, but that's pretty much every where these days. Perfect dining destination for the Atlantic Theatre.
This truly is a great restaurant, definitely one of our favorite restaurants in NYC! Food and service is top shelf
The food and service were great. We arrived early and it was quiet enough to have a conversation. The volume of the music went up after 6 pm which in turn, made everyone shout in order to be heard over it. The noise level became too much for us.
We loved our server Collin. He made it one of the best experiences we ever had and we eat out twice each week.
Thank you Collin!
Lunch with a friend. Restaurant was very busy which perhaps explains why we waited so long for our order. Balance of service was just not good enough. Food was excellent. I had the lamb burger my friend had grains & greens.
Great during the week and get there early before they get slammed. Lovely hostess greeted us and our server was professional (latino hermano) I had the 3eggs baked with bacon and my wife had the Cookshop breakfast. Great Sausage and Baccon.
But calm lighting.
Food is without flavor but very well cared for and made
Please use herbs garlic spice in meats.
Excellent service by waitstaff which helped to make up for the cacophony of loud voices from several tables at our brunch experience on a Sunday. Food was good.
Absolutely some of the best brunch in the city! Get a bloody mary, get the biscuits!
This was my first time at Cookshop though I’ve walked by it a hundred times. From the outside, it looks like a nice, calm spot. But it was very lively and I was surprised by how loud it was inside. That being said, we were greeted so warmly and our server was fantastic. She helped me navigate the menu with my dietary restrictions, and the food was quite good. We were never rushed even though the restaurant was extremely busy, and I’d say the highlights here are the healthy menu and the stellar service.
Food was great, but the noise level was unbearable.
