Cooklyn celebrates the vibrancy and creativity of Brooklyn with seasonal New American cooking from Chef Anthony “Theo” Theocaropoulos. We buy as local as possible and spotlight Brooklyn artisan food purveyors throughout the menu. Our wine list features small producers from the Northern Mediterranean, Central Europe, the US, and yes of course, Red Hook Brooklyn! Thirty wines are available by the glass and quartino.

                                          My reservation was a group of 6 for brunch on an unseasonably warm day in December. Both the owner and bartender told us on arrival that they had tables set for us inside or outside, our choice. They were quick and attentive with drinks and our orders, and we loved sitting outside in the gorgeous backyard. Friendly and attentive follow up on our lunch experience.

                                          The restaurant is visually attractive, but they play Top 40 music that is way too loud. We dined there for brunch and it seemed that they only had one server on staff. He told us later that two servers and the bar manager had called out last minute. They were not serving brunch cocktails because of this. The server forgot to deliver us water. My orange juice was served with ice. When I asked for it without ice, the server looked at me like I was crazy. When I ordered a regular coffee, he pretentiously said, "Americano or French Roast?" to make me feel like I had done something wrong once again. He touched us a lot too, which was annoying. The food was okay, but nothing spectacular. Lobster Benedict with overcooked lobster and a mediocre omelet. At the end of the meal, the server informed us that their credit card machine was broken and that they were accepting cash only. This was a huge inconvenience. He did tell us where a nearby ATM was located, but when I asked him if we could have the ATM fee removed from our bill, he replied, "I can't do that." I then had to raise my voice at him, explaining that I know the broken credit card machine may not be his fault, but they are inconveniencing us and making us pay more money than we expected (ATM fee). He finally took it off the bill, but this was a poor meal with even poorer service. I cannot recommend this place in the slightest.

                                          We looked forward to dining here as we had heard good things from friends. We had dinner at 7:30 on a Saturday night- perhaps that contributed to the frenetic atmosphere in the restaurant. The seating arrangement was uncomfortable. We sat at an outer table for two next to the bar. Closer to the wall was another table for two. Due to the tight spacing, the waiter could not serve the inner table without banging into us. It wasn't his fault- there was simply no room. Moreover the noise level was untenable. We could hardly hear each other speak. The food itself was just okay. The salad was limp and oily with a few small pieces of seafood included. The highly touted lamb burgers were not special either. The branzini served on a parsnip puree was, in fact, quite good as was the pinot grigio. Nonetheless, we don't plan to revisit Cooklyn.

                                          The lamb buns are delicious - perfectly spiced and balanced. Great cocktails, solid happy hour specials, and the double pork chip on the current menu was fantastic. Perfectly cooked! Overall a great dining experience.

                                          Our party of four enjoyed every bite at Crooklyn, but the venison wontons, squid ink cavatelli, and five-star cod in champagne beurre blanc were the most memorable. The service was truly attentive, the cocktails were inventive and the wine list was fine. The manager invited us to return -- we surely will, and make an effort to leave space for dessert.

                                          One of many great neighbourhood restaurants in Brooklyn that we found whilst on holiday. Good informal service with well prepared dishes. Particularly enjoyed the octopus starter and the pumpkin panacotta dessert.

                                          We went there looking for a great food moment, which we got. However, this is one of these restaurants where people feel so comfortable that they really produce a level of noise and sound that genuinely damages the overall experience. Not being able to hear your neighbor or speak to him without yelling is something that makes you end the evening tired and, though content with the food experience, makes you feel like the night wad a real physical effort.

                                          We were visiting NYC for the weekend and found Cooklyn on Yelp. Since we were going to be in Brooklyn, it seemed like a good find. A few blocks from the subway, nestled in the neighborhood. Food was quite good although they were out of a couple of menu items by 8:30pm. Ambiance was loud but not too much. Wait staff could have been a bit more professional.

                                          Have been to Cooklyn many times for dinner but first time for brunch. Went with friend before the BBG Chili Pepper Festival. We shared to Cooklyn skillet of poached eggs, amazingly spiced spuds and bacon. Also shared their key lime ricotta French toast. Yummy on both accounts. Lovely day so we sat out i nether garden to enjoy our meals and Bellinis. Always delighted when Chef Anthony pops by the table!

                                          It appeared to be newly opened with the service a little hit & miss, and what looked like too many people behind the bar talking to friends and not enough attention on the floor. However, the food was great with the octopus and lamb bao starters the standouts, with then a solid lobster meat mac n cheese and duck done 2 ways as entrées. Two main cons: the choice of music being played made it feel more like a nightclub rather than a restaurant/ bar & there was no air conditioning on a hot and still night. If they fixed these things it'd be a much more enjoyable experience

                                          We really wanted to like the place, they have a lovely patio. But sadly it was a really bad experience. Firstly they were out of 5 of the 7 appetizers. The fish was on a bed of greens that was pure salt, nobody came to check on us for the entire meal, not for drinks not to ask if we wanted pepper nothing. Finally at the end of the meal when our waiter did show up, he said sorry and that he would send somebody to chat with us. He came back again, said the main chef was outside and chatting with other diners so he did not see the food that was served and said he would not charge us for one glass of wine and gave us the cheque. I asked him if they don't serve dessert and our waiter again apologized saying he thought we asked for the cheque. It wasn't really our waiters fault - just badly run. We went to Ample Hill to have ice cream and feel better.

                                          My husband and I had a great meal here last weekend. We sat outside and thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. Our server as great and our food was innovative and delicious. A great experience all around!

                                          I've been to Cooklyn twice and have had a mixed experience both times. The food was very good the first time, very mixed the second. The grilled octopus was excellent, the lobster mac and cheese was flavorless. The waiters were friendly, fairly attentive, but clueless about the wine and pretty vague in their descriptions of things. Main complaints: the music was blasting on both occasions. It felt like I was walking into a dance club, both with selection and volume. Literally hard to hear conversation. And twice there were 2 dessert choices: Vanilla cheesecake and vanilla panacotta. Can't quite understand why 2 desserts would be both vanilla and dairy...

                                          I would highly recommend the duck duck cous. It was very flavorful and a decent size portion. Overall portions are a bit on the small side and prices are high. The appetizer salad was large enough for 2 but nothing special.

                                          My husband & I went for dinner last weekend. I had been reluctant to go bc of the name! Glad we went- food was delicious & service was extremely helpful. Small menu makes it easy to choose what you'll have- which I like. Wine list was small & they were out both options I selected. Husband says lamb buns are best thing on menu. Octopus is good but very small portion. We will be going back. I've heard brunch is great too!

                                          The wait staff were fantastic, attentive but not interrupting. Unfortunately, we found the pasta to be overcooked and over-buttered, and the small plates to be overpriced. The interior decor was charming but the music a little loud so we sat in the garden, which was discreetly fenced from the neighbors but marred by views of the wide-open cellar door and bussing station. We had high expectations based on the few reservation times that were available, but the restaurant had plenty of open seating when we left. We'll go back to neighborhood standby James for an elegant dinner next time.

                                          First date visit to a place I wanted to try. Food was excellent. Definitely recommend the mussels and the lamb roll. Cooklyn salad was good, but lightly dressed and I prefer more. Since I was sharing, I left it alone. Just wasn't as much my thing. Octopus was on point and well prepared. Pace was a bit slow, but not bad. Drinks took some time but they were cocktails, so perhaps I ask too much. A nice place with a modern throwback look. Definitely will repeat

                                          From the first bite it was evident that the chef, Anthony Theocaropoulos, is both gifted and inspired. His food is excellent, what one would expect from a first-tier restaurant in Manhattan. Lucky us in Brooklyn. From the appetizers to the sides, this is winning cuisine. The scallops were perfect, crispy on the outside and warm and tender inside. The octopus was spot on, crispy and not at all chewy. The cod was among the best I've ever had, if not the very best. The sculpted grape-sized potatoes were a revelation. What great food! Mr. Theo must spend half of each day simply prepping the food. The service was good: friendly, prompt and enthusiastic without encroaching. On the downside, the smallish two-top tables can be problematic because of the large size of some of the platters. Arranging items on the table was sometimes challenging even for the staff. I also wish the room didn't amplify sound as much as it does (one of my pet peeves). But, oh my, the food! The man knows what he is doing in the kitchen, and you should make it your business to get there and enjoy his food while you can. Otherwise you are missing out on a chef that belongs in the first rank.

                                          Cooklyn was really a great find in Prospect Heights. Took my mom here for mother's day dinner and the food was amazing and decent portions too for the price! The steak was amazing as well as the salad. Would totes go there again!

                                          Great evening with a friend after enjoying one of the first Spring days in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Started with refreshing gin, cucumber, mint sparkling cocktails. The must - a lamb bun and the beet salad. I had mussels - perfectly spiced and tender and pal had the duck with pasta. Terrific apple tart for dessert. Enjoyable evening with friendly, efficient service. Can't wait to go back!

                                          Arrived at 5:30 pm and let waiter know we needed to be on our way no later than 7 pm. We were totally accommodated and yet never felt rushed through our 3 courses. I brought two friends who had heard be rave about Cooklyn and they were delighted. One had the lobster mac n cheese and the other mussels (which I will try next time). I had the terrific cod. So looking forward to when we will be able to eat out in the garden! Chef Anthony always greats his guests with the genuine warmth that makes you feel that your dining at a friend's home rahter than a restaurant.

                                          This was the third time I had dined at Cooklyn in the past 4-6 weeks. While the food was quite good, we had a strange experience ordering wine on our last outing there. Of the 15 red wines listed on the wine list (all available by the glass, quartino or bottle), at least 8 of them (those that in descending order I was interested in ordering) were not acutally available. As I asked about each, I was told that "they had just run out" of that particular wine. Obviously, that was not the issue. If a restaurant is only going to offer a small array of wines, that is their choice. But don't list 15 wines and then only have 6 or 7 of them, at most, on hand to serve. I really hope that this issue is not indicative of an underlying problem with this restaurant. The chef did serve us a cavatelli dish that we had not ordered as an apology for the wine issue. While that was thoughtful, it didn't fix the wine shortage. I also hope that in addition to the relatively small menu that the chef will offer seasonal specials as well. There are only four entrees on the menu. That is a small selection. A changing array of dishes will encourage us to return more often than a fixed menu will.

                                          We decided to try Cooklyn after a day at the Brooklyn museum. We weren't disappointed, the food is delicious! We had the grilled octopus appetizer and seared salmon and duck spaghetti. The staff is very friendly. We reserved early, got to the restaurant too early but enjoyed wandering around Prospect Park. The restaurant is as cute as its name. Definitely recommend. Can't wait to return!

                                          Overall the food was very good -- I particularly recommend the lamb sandwich and octopus appetizers. I was however disappointed by the misrepresentation of spaghetti. The dish served was a noodle dish but the noodles were thin egg noodles and the overall presentation much more in the E Asian rather than Italian tradition. This was good too but not at all what I wanted to eat.

                                          We were surprised that the menu options were limited, but that did not stop us from finding the perfect meals to satisfy our palettes. The fried portobello sandwich was delicious. My husband and son had the oysters benedict. I think they could have licked their plates if it was proper to do so! Orange juice was fresh squeezed and the Bodum coffee was a nice touch to the meal. The bacon was nice and crispy and full of flavor. We certainly would return. The only down side, was that the tables are too few and too close together. It was difficult for a pregnant guest to sit behind us because she couldn't fit and we had no room to push our table back to give it to her.

                                          This is the second time I come here and it has always been great. The food is amazing and service is impeccable. From the moment you get there the experience is just great. Carl the maîtrede always welcomes you making you feel that you are really special. Manuel the bartender is just easy to become friends with and the chef Anthony always makes sure to come to say hi to you and make sure you are completely satisfied with everything and the best part is that they all will remember you next time you come. I'm just in love with this place. Great food, amazing service and hospitality and close to my house. This is my new hang out spot.

                                          The Executive Chef Anthony and his staff are amazing! Anthony came out to make sure we were happy and loved the food a couple different times. I am excited to go here again, especially for brunch. Will also definitely work with Anthony to throw a great networking event in the spring!
