We visited convivium last night on a warm Sunday night. We enjoyed the ambience and atmosphere so much. Perfectly dimmed room. We had a great wine from puglia and loved the 40 year old port. We were the last ones to leave since this place transport you to some place in Europe
We had such a amazing dinner overall. We were greeted and served by the host. He's on top of the game, such a sharp guy! The food however disappointed a little, we have just moved in the neighborhood and so happy to find a restaurant that meets Manhattan standards..
Been celebrating my wife’s birthday there for the last five years with a big party last year plus being a regular with it a few blocks from our house we go at least once a month. With out their old management team it was a bit ruff last night. We had to wait 45 mins to be seated for our 8:15 reservation with out once being offered a wine list or cava. I even asked if we could get a bottle and was told we will be seated soon. Soon was another 15 mins. In years past they had bottles chilling at the bar and old management would have recognized us and known we were there for a birthday plus the long wait would have at least included a glass of house cava. Sadly once seated we waited another 10-15 for a waiter with not a hint of an apology. I normally don’t write reviews but this is one of our local favorites and they still struggle with out a real manager or at least not having one on a busy Friday night.
We always love the ambiance of this place. The basement especially has a nice feel that transports you to another place (likely somewhere in Europe!). That said, the food was disappointing. Nothing was bad, but none of our dished jumped out at us as being very special either. For the price, we expected more. Perhaps we are just spoiled by other amazing restaurants in Brooklyn and NYC, but hey that's the competition. We got our ambiance fix and will probably wait a while to return again due to our lack of excitement about the food.
This restaurant is cozy. The appetizers and service were good. Main course was ...I ordered a rabbit which was a bit tough. My husband got branzino that was just awful. It smelled so bad... He got a replacement that was just as bad. I could smell his fish sitting across the table. We didn't get charged for the bad fish but birthday celebration swam down the drain.... Will not return...
We could enjoy great food and wine and hear each other talk.Will repeat.
Very nice romantic and cozy place for a date or a special occasion. Especially if you can get the seating in the wine cellar downstairs. Great food and nice wine list. Would definitely recommend trying!
I have loved this restaurant for over 10 years, and it never disappoints. Wonderful!
This was my third or fourth time at Convivium in about 15 years. I hadn't been in a long time. Can you say olive oil? I like olive oil as much as the next guy, but more olive oil doesn't make a dish better; apparently the chef thinks it does. We had the artichoke app and the endive salad and both were swimming in oil. I couldn't even finish the salad because at the end, it was mostly oil. Also, there's not a salt shaker to be seen; so clearly they don't want you using one. But I had lamb, and lamb tastes better with a little salt in my opinion. I could have asked, I know. But because it's not out, there was some social pressure not to ask. So I sucked it up. The most expensive house red was divine! We really enjoyed the wine. The service was good. But I asked for the salad to arrive with my lamb and it was brought out with the appetizers, so I sent it back. Overall, I would recommend as it was a great night out. But ask them to go easy on the oil! (and bring a salt packet!)

We've gone to Convivium for my partner's birthday for four years now and we've always had a good experience.
Some of our favorites include the steak for two, the pancetta wrapped livers and the braised rabbit.
This was the first time we were seated in the basement and it was even nicer than up the upstairs.
Waiter was rude, i ordered a seafood salad which was supposed to come with shrimp when it didn’t i told the waiter that there weren’t any on this salad and he disregarded me, the entre sucked i had what looked like one jumbo shrimp cut into 20 pieces with spaghetti i get upset thinking about that night, i wanted a nice night out with my fiancé, overpriced horrible service and the food wasn’t good... never again.
Very disappointed. Nice room and we were greeted immediately. Music so loud and inappropriate that another table asked the waiter/host to lower it...a few decibels. Started with the prawns (two, TWO!, for $17)...they were fine and the only thing on the plate. Also had the pancetta-wrapped chicken livers, which were burnt, over-cooked, or raw depending on where you sliced. It was an ugly mass sitting on top of a soggy piece of bread. Special of oxtail on pappardelle was very bland, not enough meat and not special. House made ricotta spinach gnudi was dense from WAY too much spinach and not enough ricotta. The wines were nice and a generous pour.
We experienced convivium for the first time after months of wanting to go there!! We finally made it last night. Everything was perfect since the moment we walked in till we stepped out. I was impressed with the level of professionalism and knowledge by the waiters. They are very well trained and synchronized.
Such a nice place for a date. We were seated in the back room, which was perfectly dimly lit. Service was great and food was excellent!
Just had dinner on Saturday night before watching a fight. Had no idea what we were in for not knowing the area but we’re pleasantly surprised. Everything about our dinner was exceptional. Would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely go back.
Everything we had was delicious! Came here with my boyfriend and his parents from out of town and they loved it. Great ambiance as well, although the service is a bit slow
It was a cold night, and this restaurant was so warm and inviting - we were escorted to the basement, surrounded by cobblestones and wine - just such an inviting environment. The food was delicious - there were five of us, and we all had different pastas, and each was excellent. The service was very good, and we truly enjoyed our evening. I would recommend reservations, as it was completely full at 5:30. We will return for sure.
Enjoyed the food, but the service was not as attentive as should be. Don’t let that stop you from enjoying a good meal.

Best steak in Brooklyn!!. The Host is a gem! Very charming and friendly guy. We were late for a 7pm reservation and still received us with a big smile.!! They have an amazing wine list

Went here for Valentines Day, and the restaurant was offering a special prix fixe menu. The food was below average for NYC Italian fare, and well below the quality one would expect for a $90 per plate price tag. The desserts in particular (panna cotta and tiramisu) were quite poor. Overall very unhappy with the quality of this restaurant.
We came out for Valentines day and they had a special menu which was very good but not quite as good as their regular menu. The bar poured out some free champagne while we waited which eased the blow of our 30 minute wait time.
I consider myself a 'foodie' and go out to dinner about 3x per week. By Brooklyn standards Convivium can be a bit pricey, but for me it is well worth it.
I've been coming here for years and they are very consistent with everything they do. It may well be the best restaurant in Brooklyn.
Hands-down the worst dining experience of my life. Made a reservation for Valentine’s day and thanks to a rude, unprofessional maitre’d, manager or whoever he was, the whole dinner felt like a total rip-off. We paid almost $300 for a special dinner which was spoiled when he rushed us out. Other couples had arrived before us and were graciously served but our food was clearly expedited and we were hurried out before my girlfriend could finish her glass of wine. We felt pressured to leave so I chugged mine so as to not create any problems. How an establishment could run this way is baffling to me. I am offended and wish I could have my money back as I feel robbed of this dining experience with lack of hospitality and sub-par food.
Great Italian and Portuguese selections. I had the rack of lamb that melted in your mouth. My guest has pasta and fish dishes and loved the food and restaurant.
Let waiter know about gluten allergy and completely disregard the allergy even after we asked specifically if there was gluten in a dish. Very disappointing.

Tried 2 of their pasta dishes, both of which were slightly over cooked, and more disappointingly, bland. Also had the rack of lamb- it was cooked to the correct doneness as ordered, but flavor was not even as good as I can achieve at home myself.
Even including a substantial discount and a comp’d dessert, I would not return and recommend just paying more somewhere else for higher caliber quality and taste. For great pasta, go to L’Artusi for example.
Wonderful as always a real neighborhood gem. Warm and romantic rustic ambience. Terrific Iberian wine list that you don’t often see. The service is professional yet casual and warm.
Food was wonderful but felt staff was really speeding us along, taking plates away without asking, taking platters that were not empty, etc. they were pleasant enough, but just hurried. Also we ordered a bottle of wine and then were presented with a different bottle than ordered, a different vintage, but waiter said it’s the “same thing.” Would have been fine if he’d told us when we ordered that they’re carrying a different brand now, but no mention.
We have been to this restaurant 3 times, the first 2 times were amazing, which is why I chose to to have dinner there with some friends, all self described foodies. Unfortunately the food was not quite up to par that night, a chicken liver wrapped in bacon starter was definitely over-cooked and too salty. The octopus starter was delicious, albeit also too salty. My friends liked their pastas, the lamb was nice, but unlike the times we went before this event, the food was good but not amazing. Maybe the cook had an off night, this happens. But is still remains a nice restaurant, where you can hear each other talk, the service is pleasant enough, not wow, but not bad, the wine was very nice, we had plenty of it. So, it being quiet and romantic, and still one of the better restaurants in this neighborhood, I will go again. And ask them to hold back a bit on the salt. And not have the chicken livers.
Let me preface this review by saying the food was extraordinary and the service would be quite acceptable if not for the fact that I made a note beforehand that it would be a birthday gathering. A small cake or other gestures would have been appreciated, but I certainly would not “penalize” them for not offering them. I was disappointed in the staff for making us wait for almost five minutes unattended while we could clearly see our table. Making things worse, the server just happened to interrupt me to order food while I was making a speech to my friends who were reunited with me here after 5 years. It’s for this special moment that I reserved a cozy, small place like Convivium Osteria, and I was disappointed to see that moment ruined. It really is a pity that the excellent food and otherwise decent service were significantly undone.
Nice cozy atmosphere with very tasty food. Service was good. Definitely a place worth going again.
