Convivium Osteria Ratings and Reviews
This was a New Years Eve Dinner at 9:15PM. By 11:15pm we were basically done and left half hour before midnight.
My food was fine-- my partner's steak was so overcooked that he left 1/3 of it. He ordered medium rare. The table we were sitting was in the middle of the main transit for all the restaurants' activity and practically on top of a corner table. I was asked to move, while having my meal, in order to let people come in. Was told to, please move, but not given a moment to put my fork down, while the table is wisked out of the way. No apologies.
"Lets feed them and throw them out" seemed to be the message here. $145.00 per person with tax/tip
My specific instructions I left on opentable was this is a "birthday dinner". We could have been walk ins and received the same service. The waiter didn't even go over any wines for us when the wine selection is triple the size of the menu. We planned to stay after dinner for drinks as she had friends coming to wish her a happy birthday but we decided to go else where as the service there was ice cold. (We had great service the first time we went there) Overall the food is excellent and consistent! Too bad the service doesn't equal to the chef's effort.
Extremely warm, welcoming atmosphere. We ate downstairs in wine cellar and enjoyed quiet space and very attentive, engaging waitress. Food was excellent, creative and tasty. Wine list has bottles under $40 and food prices are reasonable. My out of town, sophisticated friends enjoyed everything about experience as did I.
Entrance was a little disconcerting. But once inside and the food arrived: WOW!!! amazing and absolutely delicious!! I wanted to order another dinner instead of a dessert...it was that good!! a gem of a place and our waiter was excellent and all were very attentive...The food was superb!
We waited a long time to be served, actually a couple that came well after us had their order taken first. And the food, sadly, was sub par. My ragu was so watery, and my husband’s shrimp pasta had just a few pieces of cut up shrimp - in all probably 2.5 actual shrimp were cut up in his pasta. We were left a bit hungry for the super small portions.
The roasted quail appetizer with figs in a port wine reduction is to die for. There were 3 of us and we split two of them 3 ways. The flavor is off the charts delicious. My Mom is 90 and eats very little so we always share a main course. We ordered 2 red snappers. The fish was grilled to perfection and beautifully plated with a delicious fish broth, capers, olives, heirloom tomatoes, spinach and boiled potato slices. Although the restaurant is often categorized as Italian, the food seems to have a very upscale Portuguese flavor. This restaurant is a hidden gem in Brooklyn. It was my Moms birthday and they kindly brought dessert with a candle. The flourless chocolate cake was a decadent pleasure.
The food here is always very tasty. I try to get my friends to go here as often as I can. One thing on the menu that is not common: chicken livers. It is Iberian, not strictly Italian. Portions are more modest than at some "family" Italian places, but ingredients are also more upscale.
I took my staff here for our end of the gardening season dinner. I like to choose an elegant place with delicious food for a special celebration. Convivium did not disappoint in any area!
We shared many delicious appetizers and all had different entrees and desserts. Only downside: no cocktails but no one seemed to mind.
I have been dining at Convivium for many years and they are always consistent. Although spirits are no available, their wine list is great. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a place with good food, wine, friendly staff and good ambiance.
Delicious, savory Italian food in a rustic, authentic setting. The wine cellar was a bit noisy--the laughter of one large party bounced off the brick walls--so if you are going for quiet conversation you might want to choose your seating carefully. Also, many of the appetizers were quite heavy--liver, sautéed garlic shrimp, etc.-- and could almost serve as a small main course. For a cozy autumn or winter meal, though, this is a great choice.
We had a great experience at Convivium. The burrata was soooo good - melt-in-your-mouth fresh. Two of us had different pasta dishes and one had short ribs on polenta - all of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. For dessert we shared a blueberry pie with coconut in the topping - a unique and tasty combination. We shared a bottle of white rioja that was exquisite. The atmosphere is cozy and the service knowledgeable and just attentive enough. I look forward to a return visit.
