Dinner: Monday - Thursday: 5:00pm - 11:00pm, Friday & Saturday: 5:00pm - 11:30pm, Sunday: 5:00pm - 10:00pm
Positives: The food was very good and the atmosphere is charming.
Negatives: Beware of their "back room" and (depending on the server, obviously) level of service. Despite making a reservation over a month in advance we were seated in that back room with no air conditioning, no windows, and no moving air on an incredibly hot day. Despite a polite request to reseat us, no effort was made to do so when alternate seating in their other A/C'ed rooms became available. No effort was made to proactively refill our drinks or check on us in the heat. It is understood that in a popular restaurant there will not always be alternate seating. However, it is both bizarre and unacceptable for a restaurant to charge this much and not at least have some kind of standing fan in place to ensure that guests can enjoy their meals without being cooked themselves.
The food and wine was excellent and all recommendations surpassed expectations.
Great food, great ambiance. On the loud side and a bit pricey but every dish was terrific so....go hungry and you won’t be disappointed.
Convivium Osteria is a lovely space but the acoustics are at odds with what otherwise wants to be an intimate candlelit atmosphere. Conversations carry so loudly from the tables around that it's ruinous in terms of atmosphere, not to mention intimacy. Beyond that, the air-conditioning was totally inadequate. I do not pay the kind of comparatively high prices that Convivium charges to feel uncomfortable and hot and sweaty for two hours, and I further do not expect, when I ask the restaurant host if the air-conditioning can be bumped up to be told that's just how it is and get a laugh. Really? This place isn't prepared for New York City summers? On the positive side, some of the food (one first course and one pasta selection) was good (though still not quite at the level of exceptional). But two other selections (another first course and a second pasta dish) were mediocre to poor. The two desserts we ordered were unimaginative and run of the mill. Finally, while wait staff was competent, they were neither friendly nor enthusiastic, just competent and well mannered. I don't expect fancy patter and jokes from a waiter, but some some indication that the customers are welcome and some signs of engagement with and/or enthusiasm for the bill of fare would have been nice. The best waiters make diners feel that they care about, and share in, the diners' pleasure. Not here. And I was also shocked that the food came out as quickly as it might in a cheap Chinese restaurant. So much for leisurely fine dining. I won't be back. This place does not seem to be trying.
Fabulous , cozy vibrant restaurant
Food was terrific
Wonderful Quaint restaurant. Good wine an atmosphere were wonderful. Loved wine cellar.
Easy walk to Barclays
Takes reservations +++++++
I've been going to Convivium Osteria for years and the food is consistently delicious and the service is solid. Sunday night was unusual as there groups with loud talkers on either side of us, one party quite rowdy. The ambiance is lovely and romantic, though the seats are hard and uncomfortable, and I only rated it a 3 because of the loud parties around us.
I have been to this restaurant many times over the past 10 years. The meals and the service are always excellent.
Wonderful experience! Fine food prepared with fresh ingredients and presented well.
Went out for a friends get-together. Enjoyed delicious and creative food, excellent selection of wines and very attentive service. The noise level downstairs is very low and we had a chance to have a nice conversation. Liked the ambiance of a "wine cellar". Will definitely go back and recommend to others.
Lovely as always, consistent delicious fare and wonderful ambiance.
Haven't been to Convivio for several years but it is as good as ever. Was welcomed warmly and shown down to the wine cellar to our table. The wine list is varied in both types and price -- good choices. We shared two braised artichoke appetizers and they were perfectly cooked. I chose the coniglio (rabbit) as I usually do. It was delicious. Others ordered lamb and that was cooked perfectly, sea bass and ricotta gnocci. All entrees were beutifully prepared and presented. The service was just right. I introduced my friends to this wonderful neighborhood restaurant. They -- and I -- really enjoyed our dinner!
Selected this restaurant based upon reviews and it lived up to it all. Food and service were wonderful.
Wonderful rustic old world restaurant, ambience and service was perfect.
Would definitely recommend to anyone attending a Barclays Center event as nearby and memorable.
Celebrating our daughter’s and son in-law first wedding anniversary, special night.
The bone in rib eye is pricey but worth the price of admission.
I visited this restaurant with my fiance and our parents who were visiting from out of town. We were all very impressed and pleased with our meals. I had the sea bass, which was cooked perfectly and had a lovely grilled flavor. The swiss chard was also amazing. Service was great. The noise level was a little high. There was a very loud family sitting next to us. We would've appreciated if someone called attention to them. Luckily they left 30 minutes after we arrived.
Wonderful evening. Entering from the street you step into another world of a little trattoria in Italy. (We live half the year in Italy so we have some experience). Had octopus antipasto, ravioli of ricotta with apple and cinnamon with duck ragu - that was amazing. I had rabbit, dentice fish. Great wines by the glass and bottle. Well priced.
We have been there a number of times and the food is always excellent. This time we thought that the artichoke appetizer was disappointing as well as the chicken liver appetizer. The main courses including the pasta dishes were excellent. The service was adequate and the waiter knowledgeable. Of the four appetizers that we ordered, two arrived five minutes after the first two and we had to remind the waiter about the last two.
I forgot how great this restaurant is for excellent Italian food. We were all impressed with the pastas, salads, fish and desserts.
Have been coming here from Manhattan several times. It never disappoints.
Short walk from BAM, always a treat
Convivium was my choice for an multicourse birthday dinner. The food, wine and ambiance were just what I wanted! This is a neighborhood gem for the last 18 years! Bravo to the owners and wait staff!
We requested a quiet table but were seated in a deafeningly loud location. The service was terrible. The food, as always, was good. I have been enjoying this place for years but after last night’s experience, I doubt I will go back.
Food was delicious and service was great.
The restaurant decor was cool and funky. We had a booth in the wine cellar that was perfect for a celebratory dinner. Food was very good but extremely rich (that is just me I can’t eat too much of the rich stuff). Everyone I was with loved their meal. Great wine selection as well. I would definitely recommend.
I've been coming to Convivium for years. It is by far my favorite restaurant in Brooklyn. I recommended it to my sister for her wedding reception and I had my 40th birthday dinner there too.
I would like to give a shout out to boyfriend to who introduced me to this place.
I had one of the best meals in a long time.
I was served by Angel (whom i believe is im charge of the restaurant too) made great recommendations about food and wine pairing, we tried the octopus and the calmari special they both were absolutely delicious, maybe just.a little too much oil for my taste but still great. Then, we proceeded with the mains we.had the special papardelle with short ribs sauce and the rack of lamb , I'm still dreaming about the lamb omg..
My boyfriend and l are both big wine drinkers and we let Angel know that , so he brought us 2 glasses of godello that paired perfectly with the seafood and then he gave us a bottle of an amazing super Tuscan wine!. I love the fact that there is not description of the wine on the list because you can really tell when your server knows its wines.
My boyfriend and l can't wait to come back.
He made a reservation for mothers day. Spreading the word about this gem in Bk.
Convivium Osteria NEVER disappoint! I LOVE this place!!!
Very happy in general with the quality of this restaurant. Great wine and very professional staff. We had dinner on a smooth Monday night. My wife and in laws were very satisfied. Can't wait to return
Service felt rushed and was poor
We visited convivium last night on a warm Sunday night. We enjoyed the ambience and atmosphere so much. Perfectly dimmed room. We had a great wine from puglia and loved the 40 year old port. We were the last ones to leave since this place transport you to some place in Europe
We had such a amazing dinner overall. We were greeted and served by the host. He's on top of the game, such a sharp guy! The food however disappointed a little, we have just moved in the neighborhood and so happy to find a restaurant that meets Manhattan standards..
Been celebrating my wife’s birthday there for the last five years with a big party last year plus being a regular with it a few blocks from our house we go at least once a month. With out their old management team it was a bit ruff last night. We had to wait 45 mins to be seated for our 8:15 reservation with out once being offered a wine list or cava. I even asked if we could get a bottle and was told we will be seated soon. Soon was another 15 mins. In years past they had bottles chilling at the bar and old management would have recognized us and known we were there for a birthday plus the long wait would have at least included a glass of house cava. Sadly once seated we waited another 10-15 for a waiter with not a hint of an apology. I normally don’t write reviews but this is one of our local favorites and they still struggle with out a real manager or at least not having one on a busy Friday night.
We always love the ambiance of this place. The basement especially has a nice feel that transports you to another place (likely somewhere in Europe!). That said, the food was disappointing. Nothing was bad, but none of our dished jumped out at us as being very special either. For the price, we expected more. Perhaps we are just spoiled by other amazing restaurants in Brooklyn and NYC, but hey that's the competition. We got our ambiance fix and will probably wait a while to return again due to our lack of excitement about the food.
This restaurant is cozy. The appetizers and service were good. Main course was ...I ordered a rabbit which was a bit tough. My husband got branzino that was just awful. It smelled so bad... He got a replacement that was just as bad. I could smell his fish sitting across the table. We didn't get charged for the bad fish but birthday celebration swam down the drain.... Will not return...
We could enjoy great food and wine and hear each other talk. Will repeat.
Very nice romantic and cozy place for a date or a special occasion. Especially if you can get the seating in the wine cellar downstairs. Great food and nice wine list. Would definitely recommend trying!
I have loved this restaurant for over 10 years, and it never disappoints. Wonderful!
This was my third or fourth time at Convivium in about 15 years. I hadn't been in a long time. Can you say olive oil? I like olive oil as much as the next guy, but more olive oil doesn't make a dish better; apparently the chef thinks it does. We had the artichoke app and the endive salad and both were swimming in oil. I couldn't even finish the salad because at the end, it was mostly oil. Also, there's not a salt shaker to be seen; so clearly they don't want you using one. But I had lamb, and lamb tastes better with a little salt in my opinion. I could have asked, I know. But because it's not out, there was some social pressure not to ask. So I sucked it up. The most expensive house red was divine! We really enjoyed the wine. The service was good. But I asked for the salad to arrive with my lamb and it was brought out with the appetizers, so I sent it back. Overall, I would recommend as it was a great night out. But ask them to go easy on the oil! (and bring a salt packet!)
Great experience....can’t wait to return!!! Steak and Lamb was amazing!
