Convito Cafe and Market Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed a wonderful Birthday celebration luncheon with long time friends. The lunch was terrific and the Crème Brule is "THE BEST" ! Nice place! Will be going back.
Plus they have a deli as well as frozen options that are great for taking home for dinner.
Homey, honest atmosphere. Friendly server who was very attentive. They were out of special fish entrée, which was ordered before server knew they were out, but flexiblilty in the kitchen allowed preparation of a more favorite fish entrée in same fashion. Vegetables all fresh and Salads just terrific. This was not the first time I dined there, but it will also not be the last.
Convito is a charming bistro tucked into the lovely Plaza del Lago on Sheridan Rd. It is both a market for prepared foods, wine shop and restaurant. Outdoor seating and a sunny indoor glass enclosed porch in addition to inside tables give you several venue choices. The food is well prepared and presented, very tasty and great selections of entrees, appetizers and desserts. The service was professional and friendly. We wanted to linger and never felt rushed at a Sunday brunch.
We go to Convito frequently. For some unknown reason our entrees were very disappointing this time. Maybe a substitute chef or a chef change? We were very surprised how ordinary and bland everything tasted. We'll go back again to give them another chance. They were very accommodating about seating is at a table of our choice.
Met a friend here for dinner on weeknight. Service was great, food was delicious! We both had the French onion soup and both agreed it was one of the best either of us had ever had! Nice pasta options. Decided on the special which was very good. Sambuca and Frangelico after dinner drinks were a nice ending.
My wife and I have eaten at Convito a number of times. The food is always nicely prepared and tasty including this visit. This time around however the service was quite slow and the waiter was not very attentive. Drinks and the salad first course came promptly. However we had both ordered pasta dishes and the wait between the salad and the the pasta was about 20-25 minutes even though the restaurant was not full. Come on neither dish was complicated. Our waiter seemed to be only concerned with a family birthday party of about 6-8 people. He seemed to hover over that table making it very difficult to get his attention as time passed. Convito is not a cavernous dinning room with dozens of tables. When our pasta finally did come there was no offer of grated cheese. I really don't think the waiter was aware nor had been told that in a good restaurant serving Italian food the server delivers the dish and naturally follows with an offer to grate some Parmesan over the pasta. We should not have had to wait several minutes to catch the waiter's eye once again.
Fresh ingredients, carefully prepared, attractively served. Salads are always good, especially the trio of the day. Bigger dishes, such as pork or fish, are nicely seasoned, distinctive without too much edge. Servings are of a reasonable size. Dessert selection is small but there are standouts, including creme brulle. You can have a well-paced lunch here, never feeling hurried or ignored. Some things are worth coming back for, especially the white bean soup, a signature here for many years. In addition, Convito is a beautiful restaurant, striking artwork and beautiful glass. Excellent service. Highly recommended.
Convito has reinvented itself over the many years it has served this community. From a casual cozy dining spot in a wonderful interesting Euro-styled market to a wonderful Euro-styled elegant dining spot with a cozy market. All of the dinners in our group were excellent. I was particularly impressed with inventive white fish entree which I strongly recommend.
The flat breads and calamari were excellent starters.
Convito is a worthy dining destination.
disapointing- we have been coming to convito since opening in the city. portions, presentation, service was faabulous. today, more price conscious then pleasing customer. portions small for pricing. even wine should be 12 a glass not 14. no substituting with up charges everywhere. coffee cold and not good italian. no pride. and service is always russhed and you have to flag down. throw check on table. bummer and there are too many choices that satisfy and you want to give them your business.
This is the third final time I was giving them to redeem themselves and they unfortunately did not pass the test. The food is actually solid (particularly for the North Shore). The service is so bad it's almost comical. The waiter was so overworked that I thought he was at risk of a meltdown. I have been a patron of Convito for 25+ years and it breaks my heart that it is this bad. 10 minutes to be seated (with a reservation), another 10 minutes to get menus.....it just got worse from there. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get better staffed. Raise your prices if you have to. Don't do what you are currently doing because it is not working.
