   Best meal we have had in awhile. Our flight from Chicago got moved, and Contra was nice enough to accommodate us the following evening. Thank goodness they did!Innovative and playful food combinations, stellar service, easy to navigate menu. I wish we could have ordered the whole menu, and will definitely return the next time we’re in the city. Standouts: mushroom tart with scallop mousse, potato ice cream.

   Overrated and not deserving of a Michelin star. Tiny portions, timing issues, we hadn’t ordered wine and the food was already served, the bread arrived at the end of the first dish (tartare). We won’t be coming back.

    Some dishes are better than the others, so it is largely a hit and miss. We hit some and missed others. The wow items for us was monk fish, pork, beef tartar, the unworthy items was hands down that single piece of not so fresh prawn. Crab and mushroom tart sat somewhere in the middle of the ranking. Service is efficient but wasteful (change plate and utensils between each of the many courses) and waitress was less than helpful for a starred restaurant. All in, a bit of run of the mill for a M star venue

    Despite great ideas, the food suffers from FAR too much salt, we ordered the carte blanche menu, and surprisingly it did not include any of the meat main courses, which is really a shame. The service, ambiance and wine however were great, and the overall experience really nice. It’s just a few tweaks away from a really great experience!

    Coming from Copenhagen, after following you guys for some years on Instagram, it lived up to my expectations, had some interesting wine from fred cossard that we had been looking forward to trying for a while, had a lot of the dishes the menu had to offer, really interesting flavor combinations - really some inspiration to harvest from it. Very good sweet and Nice waiters, all in all a very good experience. Thank you ❤️

    Delicious innovative food. Very good and friendly service. Too loud but that was because of a group seating next to us. Really annoying shouts and laughs. The wait between dishes a bit too long.

    We had a superb evening but everything special starts with the warm welcome and exceptional service provided by Carlos and team. What a gem. He guided us through menu choices, order of dishes and wine pairings that were terrifically in synch with what we were eating at every step of the way. Jonah crab - fabulous. Boudin noir - could eat all day every day. Grilled Mangalitsa pork - wowzer. Hiramasu - delish. Lamb & beef tartare to die for, or almost. Dom Matassa Ace of Spades, cremant d’Alsace from Frietsch and Julien Pineau VDF Chicos were all exceptional. Bread was wonderful. And a potato sabayon ice cream with huckleberries was a perfect ending (just eat it and don’t overthink it - fab).

    The Good: - Majority of the dishes were inventive, but a few of the courses felt dominated by a single ingredient and were underwhelming as a result. - Baked Alaska and the sorbet(?) were phenomenal and some of the best desserts we've ever had in the city. - Bread was excellent and the butter expertly salted. - Cocktails were creative and the bar had an a very curated selection of uncommon liquors. The Bad: - Service was inattentive. It was unclear who was responsible for our table throughout the night and there were long periods between courses when no one checked in on us to refill drinks, water, etc. After the final course, we were left confused because no one came to check on us for ~30min and we eventually had to flag down someone just to pay the bill. - At no point in the night did anyone inquire whether we had enjoyed any of the dishes or cocktails. This probably wouldn't feel so glaring if there had been consistent service throughout the meal. - We arrived hungry and left hungry. Many of the serving sizes felt too small for the price of admission. We ultimately went out for more food after because of this. - Getting charged a credit card fee of 2-3% on a pre-fixe meal for two that was more than $500 feels exploitative. This is something I'd expect from a local halal cart, not a Michelin starred restaurant. Overall: - Perhaps our expectations were too high based on other reviews and the standard of restaurants throughout the city. Ultimately, we felt taken advantage of because our experience didn't coincide with the sticker price. - I can't recommend Contra based on my experience there and the other dining options available in the city.

    All of the food tastes sour. The base flavor is good, just too sour. We ordered the scallop, tartare, and the crab. I think they incorporate too much pickles or fermented aspects to the dish.

    Not worth it. Laughed after receiving the prawn dish cause it was literally…ONE prawn. Food was beautiful but only ok. Interesting wine list. Service was barely present. And then they charge 3.5% if you use a CC. Gimmmmme a break.

    Walked away feeling pretty disappointed with the food. The tomatoes on the lobster dish were incredibly bland. The beef tartare sounded wonderful with rhubarb mole & guajillo chilli but lacked any kind of punch, seasoning or depth of flavour..it was just an ok beef tartare. The jonah crab dish was fantastic, easily the highlight of the meal. The pastry on the mushroom tart was soggy, it was a large and heavy dish with nothing to contrast that, each bite tasted the same…’a pleasant mushroom quiche’ is about the highest praise I can give it. The sprouting cauliflower & sorrel sauce tasted and arrived exactly as it was written, perhaps bad ordering on our part. Not sure if this was just an off night for the kitchen but at this level we expected better. A lot of safe flavour combinations featured throughout the menu (pear & almond, lobster & tomato, mushroom & truffle) but with nothing elevating them, textually or otherwise. In contrast to this the grape & fig leaf dessert was lovely, different textures and temperatures, thoughtful and original cooking. We would return for this dessert & the crab but sadly not much else. Service was very pleasant as were the cocktails.
