Conti Caffe Ratings and Reviews
The ravioli was the best I've ever had. Great bread basket! Loved my meal. I had cancelled the day before since I was not close by. Ate at another restaurant in old Quebec and the hostess said "oh you should try to get to Cafe Conti... it is very good!" So I came the next night.
We ate at the Conti Cafe on Christmas Eve and it was decorated very festively for the holiday. We ate early, so it wasn't too crowded at first but filled up while we were there and got noisier. The tables were pretty close together (not sure if that is usual) so privacy was lacking, but the overall experience was really nice. The architecture, decor and location of the restaurant are outstanding and the food and service were excellent.
It was simple to make the reservation. We arrived hungry and cold and were immediately taken good care of. The food we had was excellent-try the risottos. My husband had the duck risotto which he loved, and I had the mushroom risotto which was very good and just what we needed to warm up.
I reserved at Conti because of Valet parking service and thinking it would offer brunch menu. The car valet arrived more than an hour after we arrived, so we had to park far from the restaurant. There was no brunch or any breakfast item available at 11h00 on a Sunday. Service was done by staff whom seem to wake up from a bad hangover. Finally, it's was way overpriced for the offer. Avoid.
Great food but ambiance suffered from TV on over the bar showing sports. There did not appear to be anyone watching. The lamb shank was one of the best I have ever had. Its on the fixed prix menu but you can order it separately.
Good wine list but hard to find a bottle under $50
This is our first trip to Quebec City so we took a recommendation from people we met at our hotel and went to Conti Caffe. It is in the old town section and is very quaint and romantic with old stone walls and subdued lighting. We were seated near a window and loved the view of the street. The menu is diverse enough to accommodate a variety of palates, and the wine list seems adequate. We had mushroom risotto, and a grilled scallop/shrimp plate with rice and steamed veggies. Excellent tasting and we were very satisfied!
Food was pretty tasteless. Calamari was tender enough but otherwise pretty bland. Pasta with hot Italian was plenty hot as far as the sausage goes but the sauce it was served with had no real taste. Chardonnay was not good. Cabernet so,so. Would not go back.
Nick, the maitre de is phenomenal. Pleasant and wants to make your dinner wonderful. Our server was Marie Chrystelle. She is perfection, fun friendly and perfect service. The food is prepared and presented extremely well. The combinations are exquisite. One of the best restaurants in Quebec. Period. The ambiance is cool and hip, the food is wonderful and the service is amazing. We will always go back to Conti.
We would have liked this lively place more had the music not been so loud and our table not so central that there was a continual parade of diners and wait staff past our table. As it was, the food is pretty good and the atmosphere is warm. There's an extensive wine list, identical to that in the affiliated upper end restaurant next door. There are a number of reasonable selections here, but bottles topping out at $7500 can also be found.
Michaelle was a terrific server! She was attentive but not overbearing. She also was patient as were dismayed by being seated near crying, loud and obnoxious children whose parents seemed oblivious to their horrid behavior.
We ordered a nice bottle of French pinot noir; trying to wait for the rude children and their bad-behavior allowing patents to dine and leave.
After 30 minutes we ordered the French onion soup, which was flavorful and cheesy, as well as the beef vegetable soup that was very tasty. The accompanying bread array was wonderful.
After another 30 minutes we ordered the house salad. It was full of fresh greens and delectable cucumbers and vegetables.
The rude diners finally left....much to the joy of us and the tables around us.
We ordered a second bottle of wine with our entrees.
The rack of lamb was exquisite as was the osso bucco with a side of pasta.
For dessert, the cappucino cake provided a sweet ending.
Such a fine restaurant should find a way to curb poor behavior by dining families or not allow children under 10 to dine after 6 pm.
Considering we had such remarkable service the night before at Le Continentel, we were appalling surprised how the same owner could deliver such different experiences. In the 65 minutes we were there, we finished a half a bottle of wine and two cups of soup. Our server was rude, confrontational and just nasty. When I told her no.more wine, she poured it anyway and shrugged her shoulders. When we questioned where our meals were at saying we had been at the restaurant for over an hour and others had been served, she lied and said we only ordered 30 minutes ago. Two cups of already prepared soup didn't justify 65 minutes for the main courses to arrive. We eventually asked to leave and skip dinner. She was belligerent. The manager eventually came by and apologized but not until after she made a scene. Perhaps she was rude because we were English speaking...she seemed to be attentive to other tables. After reading reviews when we got back, this issue and likely this server gas done this before. Stay away! It was very upsetting to be treated this way.
The Conti caffe was recommended by the owner of the AirBNB that we were stating at. We were looking forward to a great meal but were disappointed. The service was just fair. My partner ordered the crab pasta dish which wasn't bad and I ordered the seafood linguine which tasted like the scallops were frozen and dry.
