Meals aren’t about trends, shock value, or opulence.
Meals are about moments, memories and those who surround you at your table.
We believe in the complexity of simplicity, and the power of pure flavors. Our histories, vast and varied, deserve to be memorialized and romanticized by dishes that at once remind us of home and transport us to somewhere new.
We don’t make food for everyone else, we make food for you.
Great meal and outstanding service.
A Creole Carribean collision long on flavour and more flavour. Great service to boot.
Had dinner with friends. We got friendly service at the bar with a great selection. Service was great overall. Tasted the conch croquettes and found them to have a little too much breading, but overall a good flavor. Tried the curry goat dish and found it to be heavy overall, and a little light on actual goat meat for the $30 price. They almost made up for that with flavor, which wasn’t a strong curry or traditional island flavor but it was complex and unique enough to meet my expectations.
Vraiment délicieux. Nous avons partager plusieurs plats et étions satisfait de tout.
Scrumptious, unique food and spectacular service! Will be back as soon as possible.
Every course was amazing! Highly recommend
We just loved everything about our meal. Great food, impeccable service, not too loud (and it was full), beautiful setting.
The food was absolutely top-notch. The combination of flavors and presentation was impeccable. However, I found the service to be a bit snooty. We could not be seated when two of our three people were present, even though the restaurant was only 20% full. Our third was walking two blocks and was there within 7 mins. We went to the bar to get a drink to have the bar back kindly tell us it wasn't it his place to take our orders and to please walk down to the bartender instead. I mean, really, he couldn't have waved her over? There were 5 people total seated at the bar. The hostess came to the bar and basically pointed to our table and walked off to help someone else. Not a word, just a swoosh of her hand to show us our table. The table service was attentive, however; our main waiter was wonderful. But then there is also the reminder that "we don't split checks" at the end. I was there on business; my friends, a couple, were not. Therefore I needed a receipt for business purposes. Finally, the waiter acquiesced. My check was three items - drink, appetizer, entree. Really, it wasn't that hard. And the music is quite loud, bouncing off all the hard surfaces. Truly, the food is remarkable. But be prepared for service that makes you feel like you're asking for favors the whole time.
We had a wonderful meal. The Tuba appetizer was extraordinary. Entrees were excellent. Truffle pasta special was good, could have been a better flavor.
Food was amazing!
Unique flavors - outstanding, bespoke presentation. 2nd visit after a few years, completely different menu and did not disappoint!
Excellent. No other way to put it.
Great as always
Really enjoyed birthday lunch there. Thanks to Nina for making the time to say hi. Wish we would have asked for a picture, but meeting her was really cool. Food was absolutely delicious. We'll be back, the next time we're in NOLA.
We ate here because we were staying at The Old No 77 and it was the night we arrived. The food was excellent. We ate at the bar to enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant more and had a lovely evening as you get to chat to others too. The serving staff were very good too
Delicious taste of the Caribbean. Authentic flavors that reminded me of my birth place.
An exceptional restaurant with a gifted chef. The food is well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Great wine list.
Honestly, our server was a total dingbat and made our anniversary dinner less than what it could have been. She was either totally overwhelmed or just started. Zero customer service. She walked away from me in the middle of my sentence while I was asking her if she had a hot sauce of some kind. Although she brought me some, she didn't say anything while leaving or returning & just set it on our table. I ordered a glass of not-so-tasty wine and was slightly disappointed, but drank it anyway. When my husband was about to order a different glass, he asked if he could have a small pour/taste of what he was ordering so he wouldn't get something he didn't liked either. She looked at him like that was the most ridiculous request and gave a little smirk with attitude before agreeing. Food was different, but not totally outstanding.
a little out of the way if you are in the French Quarter, but worth the trip. Lovely place, good service and wonderful food. A let-your-hair-down kid of place, but it works very well. Fresh, flavorful ingredients, well prepared and presented.
Quaint, lively spot- I love the warehouse, exposed brick feel. The cow heel soup, which may not sound appealing, was tremendous- a complex broth with perfectly placed herbs. I have told several people about it already and would go back just for that appetizer. The snapper dish with the butternut squash and sweet potato was a surprising combination of simple, salty and a bit of sweet- it worked wonderfully. Highly recommended, I will be back to try the goat curry and the tuna tartare.
Excellent food; some of the best I have had in New Orleans. The service was also top notch and the restaurant itself was beautiful. James Beard award very well deserved.
Fabulous! Hubby said his oysters were the best he ate during our visit to New Orleans. My marinated shrimp in avocado-jalapeño sauce was awesome. Wine went very well with the duck 3 of us ate and hubby's jerk chicken. The duck was good, but the chicken was extraordinary. Usually I love truffles, but the flavor disappeared in the duck's gravy, however, the duck was still delicious. The Spoursop Semifreddo was unique and refreshing. Would love to eat here again anytime.
My expectations for Compère Lapin were high.... but the food, service and all absolutely exceeded my wishes! I brought 3 ladies with me who had no idea what they were in for... so I ordered for the table. First we tried a variety of cocktails (highly recommend Melonious Funk). The curried goat goes down as the best entree I’ve had in many years. Everyone was fighting for a bite and we licked the plate clean! We tried 3-4 appetizers and 4 separate entrees and no one left disappointed. The bill was really reasonable and I was thrilled to get same day reservation by just going a little early at 6:30.
Room too dark and table needs votive candles as we could hardly read the menu - and pointing to an item on it, our waitress couldn't make it out either! Food and drinks were prompt and good! Best part was the homemade bread "appetizer" and flavored butters - scrumptious! Entrées good but on the small side. Overall, a good experience.
My new favorite desert in all of New Orleans is at Compere Lapin. The passionfruit mousse / chiffon cake / pineapple better stay on the menu because I am bringing all my friends in to try it.
We went for the Caribbean Dinner Series. They were serving a Haitian menu with cocktail pairings. Three courses for $45, and 4 cocktails for $30. I asked them if it was a misprint! The food was so delicious, and the cocktails with each course made sense! Great bargain, great food, and a nice atmosphere for any occasion. I love this restaurant and will go as often as I can!
We ordered almost everything on the menu and cleaned HOUSE everything was phenomenal GET THE CURRIED GOAT
outstanding food. Cool ambiance. nNoisy by bar, but ok at our table.
impeccable service. Would come back in a heartbeat
Chef Nina Compton is BRILLIANT! We have eaten here multiple times because this restaurant is always fabulous. We opted for her Trinidad & Tobago tasting menu. It was incredible. The special one week menu was creative, authentic and simply delicious. Our whole party was sad to not be able to return this week for her taste of Haiti. Before we left we booked a larger table for her St. Lucia tasting menu during the last week of September.
Food and service were amazing. The restaurant was super loud. The table next to us was way too close. Waiters bumped us every time they went through with food. We were also against the half wall of the bar and the group there was facing us so I felt like there was no privacy. After they left it was much better.
Menu series inspired by Trinidad and Tobago. Delicious from start to finish. Phylorri, curried duck, stewed pumpkin, roti, rum cake with cardamom ice cream. Just wow!
CL is in star + Michelin territory without the pomp & pretense. Great in every way. Casual and exceptional, classy and down to earth. Will be a place to revisit in NOLA and that is sayin something in that restaurant paradise .
We had dinner at Compère Lapin during our last visit to NOLA. We were so impressed last time that it was the only restaurant on our return list this trip. Everything was more than could be expected.
Amazing food and service in a hip, modern space. Will be back the next time I’m in NOLA!
The cuisine is innovative and delightful.
Excellent food and service. Interesting mix of flavors. Will definitely return.
Curry Goat was phenomenal.
Overall outstanding restaurant!
It is always perfection. The food is one of my favorites in NOLA (I’m local). Every meal, every single time is perfection. The staff is wonderful.
