Meals aren’t about trends, shock value, or opulence.
Meals are about moments, memories and those who surround you at your table.
We believe in the complexity of simplicity, and the power of pure flavors. Our histories, vast and varied, deserve to be memorialized and romanticized by dishes that at once remind us of home and transport us to somewhere new.
We don’t make food for everyone else, we make food for you.
Nina I loved your food!!!! The restaurant was a really fun place to go for a fancy dinner!
Loved everything about Compere Lapin! From the beautiful decor and artwork to the attentive, friendly and polite wait staff, to the delicious food. I adored the banana zeppole!!
Bustling atmosphere, great food. Nice dining experience.
We really enjoyed the vibe at Compere Lapin! It is upscale but laid back, bustling but intimate, wildly original but familiar. I enjoyed the curried goat stew with sweet potato gnocci and my husband had the pasta with truffles. Both dishes were super-rich and delicious but not too heavy. The dessert was the most amazing thing - a cucumber + celery creamy frozen thing (cannot recall the name but it was refreshing and surprising). The service was attentive without being overbearing. All in all we had a wonderful time and it felt like everyone there was having fun, too. I will definitely go back the next time we are in New Orleans to see what other surprises they have.
The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with navigating the menu and my food sensitivities. Tuna tartare, Adobo pork and Chicken dish were excellent.
Mignon was great as was the pasta and jerk chicken. Innovative. Tremendous restaurant!
Marinated shrimp and tuna appetizers were amazing! Then it went downhill. Waitress didn’t right down the order. I ordered the chicken and instead got the snapper. Instead of sending it back, I decided to keep and try it. The snapper, burger, and fries were SO salty it was almost impossible to eat. On the plus side, the wine list was great, and the bartenders were cool. Will give it another shot at some point, as I think Nina Compton is crazy talented!
Very nice and efficient wait staff. The room is very nice with upbeat but not noisy music in the background .
The chive bread and exotic butter brought to us before the meal was wonderful.
The shrimp salad was unique fresh and very tasty. It was a bit overpriced at $16.00.
The farmer salad was equally fresh and tasty and generous.
The wait between the “first” and second course was more than 35 minutes which was a bit annoying.
I had the wagyu hamburger which was disappointing. The meat was ok. However, it seems the the bun was fresh made and really missed the mark. It was dry and tasteless and took away the flavor of the meat. At $20.00 for a burger wagyu or not that is not acceptable.
The French fries were greasy, seemingly fried in grease not hot enough.
My wife had the chicken sandwich which was on the same bun described above. There was a sauce which overpowered the chicken and when added to dry tasteless bread was not good. Same fries as I had.
The waitress asked and my wife told her she didn’t want to finish it. Within minutes, the manager came by to apologize and took the sandwich off the bill. He was very professional.
We picked this place because the reviews were mostly good. It may have just been a bad day. The guy baking the chive bread should make chive buns.
The thing is, when you are charged grand restaurant lunch prices you should have a grand restaurant meal.
The unique salads are worth a shot. However it will be a while before I go back.
Went for brunch and had a delicious meal. Everything was fresh, cleverly put together and well presented. Service was excellent too. Highly recommended!
Love love love this place! The soursop dessert will change your life
We have been hearing and reading about this restaurant for some time, but there are so many options in New Orleans that we don't get around to all the places we would like to go. We came for lunch to celebrate our anniversary, and were very pleased. We live in the city, and will be back. We are often asked by visitors for recommendations, so we will add Compere Lapin to the short list of our usual recommendations.
Since we visited at lunchtime the restaurant was not full, but we appreciated the low noise level. We don't know if the same would be true during a busy dinner service, but it was nice to be able to converse without straining our voices and ears.
This was the best Thanksgiving meal. Service was outstanding.
Food was tasty. Nice ambiance and friendly service.
Great food, good service, no complaints. Lunch menu had a lot of great options, cocktails were also tasty.
Delicious fresh food!
The food was good.
We were seated in the bar, when the restaurant was mostly empty.
We were subjected to loud music ("Bad Girls", "Kiss You Where I Miss You"?...you gotta be kidding me!).
The server appeared totally disinterested.
As a native New Orleanian, the food has to be good, but the dining experience is paramount.
I would recommend Compère Lapin only if an acquaintance is stuck at a hotel in that area without the Uber or Lyft app.
Meticulously cooked food - stellar technique. Flavors were more subdued than expected (curries were not quite full curries, jerk chicken had no spice) given the Caribbean roots of the place.
Bar service was overly laid-back. Table service was very good.
My husband and I ate there for our anniversary. He has quite a few food allergies, so it was really nice when receptionist asked if there were any food restrictions when we checked in. The food was FABULOUS and they were very accommodating with his allergies: dairy (no butter or milk), eggs, peanuts and fish.
An extraordinary dining experience, from the minute we arrived. The pre-dinner bread alone gives a hint that this will not be "business as usual" as it is more of a flaky, layered biscuit, but unlike anything I've ever had in the bread department. We "had to" order seconds on the bread, which the house was happy to accomodate. Appetizers are imaginative, original in conception, beautiful in presentation, and delicious. The range of main offerings should appeal to every taste and range of complexity. Outstanding wine list with some real values, for those who are interested and know how to find an obscure Cote du Rhone. Impeccable service. This was my second visit and we loved everything about it, including the edgy hotel lobby off of which it is located. Considering that this is almost in the French Quarter, parking is nearby and reasonable.
The food was amazing. Had the tuna tartare, arancini to start with cocktails and they were all first class. The biscuits with butter were fantastic. The mains were the shrimp pasta and the curried goat, and were both excellent culinary experiences.
I just love this place. I had been for dinner before and was extremely impressed, but this time I went for brunch and was not disappointed. My friend and I got two small plates and one entree to split (to be able to try more things obviously), and we were sufficiently fed. We got the Pecan French toast and it was absolutely decadent. We got the Hamachi everything donut—also delicious. Everything tasted better with everything seasoning. We got a special item too which was crispy-fried Brussel sprouts tossed in a Caesar dressing and holy cow this did not disappoint (don’t underestimate the specials, folks). Usually a do a boozy brunch, but this time I got a simple cappuccino which was absolutely beautiful. I wanted 5 more. My friend and I walked out of the restaurant full, and our wallets were happy too. Tab was $52 for 2, and that’s hard to beat for a somewhat “upscale” brunch. Our waitress was accommodating, fun, and was able to answer everything we asked (and I always ask a lot of questions). Ambiance was perfect, timing was perfect, and food was delicious. 10/10 would recommend, and I will be back.
Service was EXCEPTIONAL. From refilling my water constantly, bagging my remainders for take out. Just dedicating time and service to me was EVERYTHING
Absolutely wonderful. This was my third time. I will eat here when ever in in NOLA.
One of the best restaurant experiences. Our very nice waiter explained all the specials to us and recommended his favorite dishes. I loved everything and can't wait to go back to NOLA and also try her other restaurant.
Highly recommend if you want excellent food in a comfortable but stylish environment. We’ve never been to NOLA and after traveling most of the day this was perfect - Creative cocktails, great wine list, and authentic dishes. Our server was helpful with each course - were willing to try just about anything. So, we asked her to decide between a few dishes. Loved the cow heel soup, Brussels with skins and panko, adobo pork. We started with the bread service and two house made butters - honey and my favorite...smoky bacon. Delicious!!!!!
Awesome.. thank you!!!
Enjoyed the meal immensely. The dishes were beautifully cooked and presented. Goat curry, snapper pepper pot and cow heel soup were delicious, made with quality ingredients (though the curry and soup could have been less salty). The mocktail was fun, too. Waitstaff were very hospitable. Definitely a highlight during our trip to New Orleans!
Went with friends and my six year old. Great food, service and cocktails. The sommelier suggested a fantastic white and red in price range. Everything was great and quite reasonably priced for quality of food and service. Also nice that’s it’s fine dining without stuffiness and we did not feel out of place with a well-behaved child.
The food was superb! We had mentioned that we were on a bit of a tight schedule and everything came out so quickly, but not rushed, that we were truly impressed. We were there to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and were treated at the end to a few sweet bites complimentary of the house. With the prix fixe lunch we were very satisfied both flavor and portion wise.
My only complaint--pretty minor overall, and not even with the restaurant itself, I think--was that there was a faint aroma in the air reminiscent of when someone next to you is wearing too much cologne. At first, in fact, that's what I thought it was, but it followed me all the way to the restroom and back to the table, so it must have been ambient in the air of the hotel lobby and into the restaurant. As a person very sensitive to fragrance and with a sensitive palate, it was a bit distracting from the food.
Other than that, it was incredible. Wish we hadn't been so full, I would have loved to have dessert! Next time.
Really good food with an EXCELLENT waiter, Corbin. He made what would have certainly been a great meal more like an evening to remember. We will certainly go back and ask for him when we do.
I was thrilled to be going to Compere Lapin being as I am a huge Top Chef fan. Once I got inside, I was impressed by the decor and ambiance. Relaxing, comfortable, and sophisticated. Crisp white tablecloths yet not stuffy. We were instantly greeted and presented with a menu with thoughtful tasting sounding dishes. I so wanted to love this place and I did. Except for the food. The food was good but just had some jarring notes. The Pumpkin alogetti was great but the curry granola on top didn't go with it. The fried oyster sandwich with slaw was crispy and toothsome, but there was an odd taste in the slaw. The tuna tartare looked beautiful but just missed on the seasoning. Maybe I went on an off day. Maybe I expected too much. I would still go back and try it again. It was still a wonderful experience.
Rather loud and “cold”. Biggest issue is terrible process for valet parking—must present ticket to hotel receptionist, after waiting for many people to check in.
Best brunch in town. By far!!
Although we had made reservations well in advance, we were seated barely inside the restaurant at a table next to the service station. The hostess said nothing else was available. We tried to accommodate but, after being disturbed by “station business” several times, my husband insisted we be moved to a empty table we could see. I must add that the restaurant was never full in the 90 min we were there. Our waitress was lovely; the food was good ( although the curry took over in my goat dish). We had greatly anticipated this meal and thus a bit disappointed.
It was excellent
So many subtle details.
Alex is an amazing gracious server
Cucumber dessert a bit off but everything else is a home run!
We loved our dinner. The restaurant is beautiful. The food was inventive, beautiful and delicious. The service was smooth and friendly.
